      It's ripe for criminal exploitation. What ends up happening is people buy gift cards with stolen credit cards then turn around and sell them to sites like this to resell for much lower prices than the people with legitimate gift cards would reasonably sell them for. Gift cards that can be traced back through serial numbers (activated at point of sale) end up getting cancelled through creditor charge-backs when the fraud is detected. End result is only criminal sellers make money and legitimate buyers get scammed.

      I think what Peter disliked was how misleading the guy was. He was trying to exaggerate how much business he was actually doing and that probably ticked off Peter Jones. The other Dragons were quite nice, but their point was more that he didn't really need the money, he could just save some money by not having a big office and renting vans while sticking to Scotland and get to his goal without any investment money.

    Just on Deborah’s advice to the first guy, “don’t push against investors”. Isn’t that what the entrepreneur is supposed to do to justify their business model? Deborah seems to think the dragons are untouchable and cant be argued with.

    With the gift card converter, the company that that gift card was purchased from won't care less if it isn't redeemed, because they got paid anyway?

    • @TheDirtysouthfan
      @TheDirtysouthfan Před 8 měsíci +2

      In a way yes, but also hjaving a giftcard means more foot traffic, especially to a store that the holder may not have originally considered, and if they use it they may find that they really like said store and become a return customer. I felt this way with Adidas, I came in when I got a gift card but I found that it was one of the few stores to have shoes in my size and their pants were quite comfortable. Now I'm a repeat customer.

    I feel bad for the gift card guys. It's a great idea, but not when it's public and popular. People should be able to exchange gift cards and sell them, but the fact of the matter is, the companies issuing the cards won't like that. This kind of service is best run under the table.
