  • Cold weather so still adding things to the boat. I decided to install some pumps to keep the pontoons clear of water. Then a tiller so that I could steer remotely without having to turn towards the motor. The Pelican Bass Raider build continues.

New Sub here, Thanks for sharing this set up with the steering. I have severe back problems and turning in the chair to steer my jon boat and quest angler kills my back. I think this will be the perfect modification I believe. I really like the pump idea, really cool but just curious as to why not just install drains on the bottom? I think i know the answer but enlighten me.

Well, I don't want to cut holes in the bottom of the boat. Just doesn't feel right even though I know it would be fine. And making pumps are more 'fun'? Thnx for the comment!

That's what I'm hoping for but a lot of people do get water in them and eventually they have the foam soaked up enough that it affects float level. Fingers crossed though.

Can you provide a link to that clamp you have on the trolling motor shaft? I’ve never seen anything like it before and I can’t tell I will be using it in a variety of applications.

I've had these as steering parts over the course of three boats now. Here is similar at home depot. They're called 'split ring pipe hangers'. They come in different sizes so if this 1" one isn't good for you search the name and you'll see all the others. You have to purchase and add the eye loop as it's not usually what screws in there. Nice thing about it is that as you tighten the eye loop it presses against the shaft, locking it in. www.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-1-in-Galvanized-Split-Ring-Pipe-Hanger-33553/301505447

@@CraftsmanontheLake Thanks for the info. I didn’t even know those connectors existed.
