Random Video: Newport Trolling Motor Switch Replacement

Just 8ish minutes long lets someone see what to expect while replacing. I also have some hint items to watch out for so it doesn't go south on you.

Pelican Bass Raider: First Run, No Fish

After a build of the Pelican Bass Raider I finally get it in the water for a test run across the lake. Interesting experience. It's a bit wobbly, I had a motor go to full throttle all the time, and as is often with me, no fish. Come with me on a test flight.

Slow but sure. A boathouse to store the Pelican Bass Raider. Thing is it's three feet up to get it out of the water. I built a sort of rail with a wheeled trolley and a winch. So far so good. The next video will be reassembling the boat, launching, and testing it out. Lotsa fun.

I've had these as steering parts over the course of three boats now. Here is similar at home depot. They're called 'split ring pipe hangers'. They come in different sizes so if this 1" one isn't good for you search the name and you'll see all the others. You have to purchase and add the eye loop as it's not usually what screws in there. Nice thing about it is that as you tighten the eye loop it presses against the shaft, locking it in. www.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-1-in-Galvanized-Split-Ring-Pipe-Hanger-33553/301505447

Right off the bat, no no and no. There is definitely adhesive between the two pieces... That piece of sudo rub rail is just covering where the two pieces come together.

    • @CraftsmanontheLake
      @CraftsmanontheLake Před 4 dny

Yes, I'm aware of that. Now the rub rail is also sealed. I wouldn't have taken apart the two halves to seal them on a new boat, but the seal isn't that great in many people's boats. Hence one area of filling up if left outdoors that people experience. I looked at mine and there was actually a gap where the seal didn't meet at the ends near the rear.

You spoke about the cost of batteries versus gas/oil/grease but did not include the higher initial capital expense which is a big consideration that can't be ignored. Like you, I have my trusted 20 year old Toro 1028, so if I was replacing it, the price differential of a 10 hp 28" blower is another $1K...with the Ego being the greater. Amortize that capital difference in addition to the battery replacement results in a significant delta in the cost of ownership equation. Thanks for an informative video.

Nice video. We get 20 feet of snow in a normal year. I am on year 4 of EGO snowblower. I have a single stage for our deck. The main parking are is cleared under a contract service - about $1,000 per year. We use the same batteries in our lawnmower, chainsaw and leaf blower. My younger neighbour also uses the batteries. No complaints at all. We are considering getting a larger battery blower - maybe that 28" EGO and cancelling the contract clearing service. Gas is not an option. The smell of gasoline and hassle renders the tool shed unusable. I sold the gas blower, generator and appliances 4 years ago and am super happy with that move. It took about 3 weeks for the smell to go away. Those blowers are often available at significant discount as are the batteries.

Yes I considered all options even the bass pro boats. I wanted the raider because of the lower sides for what I had in mind. And it seems from what I've seen that people who get the plastic seats often look to replace them right away. The ones they often get are the NXT seats. And they're not inexpensive. Also, no one carried the 10e around here. And I had to pick up the NXT early in the spring as they sold out before the snow all melted where I am. I do like the mesh seats of this boat though.

A few upgrades that you might want to add are; putting a 45-degree chamfer on the rails to help guide it onto the tabletop, using a cabinet door handle to carry it with, and some ramps attached with door hinges that have removable pins. I hope this helps. 🤓

I also thought of making 2x6 ramps with pins on the end that could slip into holes on the top. Another day maybe I will. Thnx for the comment.

Guessing a lot of viewers want to make something like this. Love the ping pong ball valve and the air vent to make it work better. The washer motor flush is great as well. I will probably lay up one layer of fiberglass on something it will release from and curve it around instead of wood, then add more layers to lock in the shape. Hi, thanks for sharing ur time & ur projects. I do look forward to watching no matter what you have to share. PS, i am in the process of changing my camp trailer over to a lithuim battery. Im sure I won't be disappointed. I plan to take it out for an overnight test run this Thursday. Tell ur wife hi.

Yes. It simply was a huge change in how I dealt with power. BTW.. If you're charging from the tow vehicle while underway, look into the possible issues doing that. Often standard alternators can't deal with the charge demands of lithium units and the alternator can burn out. People often either upgraded the alternator or use a DC to DC charger between them which protects the alternator. Since I had a big enough battery and our needs were meager, and I had alternative charging options, I disconnected that pin on the truck connector. Thnx for the comment.

@@CraftsmanontheLake Hi, thanks for letting me know about the alternator issue. I had run across that somewhere before. I don't go on long trips and use solar & or generator so I don't feel a need for charging while towing so I disconnected that line on the trailer. I did have to change out my converter/charger unit to one that is set up for lithium. Thanks again

A Little late finding your channel..lol I just had a little Fleetwood Neon ripped off, but recovered due to a Apple Air Tag i had put into the trailer during the winter for storage unfortunately not located until said person spray painted it and did a terrible job at that and some other damage. My insurance will cover just enough to buy a 6x10 Cargo and after watching a lot of conversions your approach is the best i've found thus far and will strive to achieve. Thankyou you have made my job so much easier.

Well thank you. To bad about the theft. Mine is insured for a specified amount that I chose and as a utility trailer.

Put that 650 in the other hand ….its heavy that way but it blows very cool with the short nozzle …..you can aim it at the door and blow all the leaves to the backpack …..

Great job.Shame you need to get underneath the camper to open the valve.

I have since added a valve that I can reach easily with just my hand and other people have to lift a container out inside the camper and carry it outdoors and dump it. Another advantage is that one were Boondocking. I can just open the valve and let it drain when we leave, when your Boondocking usually in the middle of nowhere anyway. Thanks for commenting.

My wife and I eloped to Servereville which is not far from Piegon Forge and got married in Temples Feed Store which is no longer there. That was 34 years ago. That major highway was actually 2 and it was all open road. We went back for our 25th Anniversary and came upon what you describe as what I call a tourist trap. Was highly disappointed that all that beauty was gone and the mountains were filled with giant house rentals.
