On gun buybacks: In the late 1980s, the Baltimore Sun had a picture of a man in his 50s, turning in what appeared to be a Single Action Army-type revolver, that, according to the caption, had been his grandfather's revolver. I started doing the math on how old his grandfather might have been.
It might have been a true Colt Single Action Army, worth crazy money, and he was getting a whopping $50 at the time for 'taking a dangerous gun off the streets'.
The heart aches.
That really does hurt. I had the pleasure of firing an entire cylinder (5 shots) from a 1st generation Colt SAA with the black plastic grips back in 2018.
So I'm at a range up in the hills by myself getting ready to leave as its getting a bit dark. A fellow comes up and asks if he can have my spent brass. I told him go ahead. I noticed he had a revolver on his hip with cartridge loops on the belt and I compliment the rig. He asks if I would like to see it and I agree. I gently handle it and look it over. Beautiful condition, lovely blued finish. I asked him if I could fire it and he says sure, so I generously thank him for the opportunity (lets face it, how often do you come across someone that owns a Colt SAA, let alone get to shoot it?), fire the shot, and go to hand it back to him. He says "go ahead and empty the cylinder". I barely believed that he said that so I was like "wow, are you sure? I know .45 Colt is expensive...". So he replies "its okay, I reload my ammo." I got to keep a casing to remember the occasion and shook his hand again. I never got his name but I'll never forget that. The pistol was 175 years old and I got a rare chance to shoot one...
p a i n
That made me a little sick.

There once was a gun buyback over here in Germany. Everyone was surprised at how many MP-40s had been around until that happened in like 1970. So many Lugers and C96s too. They were sold to Museums all over the world. Was kinda funny to hear that none were sold to German Museums.
One main issue I have with “buy back” is, who is paying for them! I don’t think the government should be handing out gift cards payed for by the tax payer. If people are desperate for cash that much, take it to a gun store to sell or be disposed of probably, or pawn it.
I went and checked In Australia the government collected $500M dollars from an increase to our Medicare levy.
But I don’t think they ever removed that levy price hike!!

Gun buybacks are cool if two important criteria are fulfilled:
the police doesn't arrest or send you away if you try to outbid them with cash to save valuable historic guns from being destroyed
they give you the promised $300 times 50 for the 50 slamfire pipe shotguns you created in your garage last night
Lmao
That went from 0 to a hundred quick! Fuck yeah haha
This.
What if I have a gun, that's worth less than $100 (probably,) and I really don't care if I have it or not because there are a dozen others that I could use, and I use that $100 to pay for stuff to free up $100 in my bank account to add to what's there so that I can buy something nicer? Think a SCCY that has at least one FTF every 50 rounds using Winchester white-box (not premium, but not the crappies ammo either.)
Is it wrong to flip guns in buy-backs. I think not.
What happened here in NZ after Christchurch when we had a buyback was may gangs started offering more money for the guns than the government would. The idea behind buyback is solid in that it can get guns out of the hands of bad people but done badly it can make things worse. Also protect the historical arms, always.
The fact that the gangs were offering more money than the police is evidence that the guns are not leaving criminals hands.
The fact this dude seriously just has a Colt Dragoon (at least I think that's what that is) and a Luger sitting on his desk is just _peak_ gun nerd. Total respect there.

Gun buy backs are great. My buddy bought a stock duplicator, so we made some homemade single-shot "rifles" out of 2x6s and some old pipe. At 100.00 per unit, I think buy back programs are the best.
I guess the vest way to counter it is scamming the shit out of it lol
I don't like police buybacks at all: Why should my money be used to buy unwanted and uncared for guns just so they get destroyed? I would rather have a private company do the same thing, and get those guns into the hands of people who will care for and use them appropriately.
I see it like PETA vs an actual shelter.
Man's is speaking straight facts
However…..while i agree with you that I also hate gun but backs, consider that I also agree with FREEDOM so if someone else wants to turn their guns in who am I to argue with someone’s freedom they want to exercise???
Exactly. Let's not forget that they weren't allowed to, so instead they rocked up and started to give away gun safes and gun safety gear FOR FREE and encourage folks to keep their shit.
David Lofton except there’s no freedom in the fact that it’s our tax money “buying back” these guns. The gov can’t buy back anything.
Gun buybacks are a great way to finance new gun purchases - a slamfire shotgun is cheap, and all you need is available in home depot. You can easily make fifty bucks a "gun" or more, depending on what theyre offering for them. You may also may be able to pick a vintage piece cheap, as grandma turns in her dead husbands 1911 thats been sitting in the closet for 40 years.

So down for the shop tour
Brandon, wish I lived in your area, I would definitely vote for you.
You know what would've been cool? If BDU donated some of the revenue from their triggers to Rarebreed legal fund. Their case would protect BDU's trigger as well, so it would look a lot better.
You realize bdu dropped RB then stole their idea and sold it instead .. they are trash and only out to help themselves.
They are the Jim and Tammy Faye baker of the gun world.
I like the idea of offering a safe and “amnestied” option to give up your gun, but my big issue is that it doesn’t seem like the police ever actually take the time to run the serials and return stolen guns or recirculate the truly valuable stuff. I would fully throw my support behind a program that takes every single gun turned in, runs every number, returns all the stolen ones, then all the rest get checked for cold case ballistics. After all the ones that were used in a crime are pulled out, every single one goes to auction, even the hi-points. After the auction ends the ones nobody wants can be destroyed. But I’m tired of seeing priceless history destroyed because Timmy (xi/xir) was scared of the rifle his grandpa brought back from France after the war and wanted to buy more buttplugs off amazon. But the way they’re currently run, I highly disagree with buybacks.
I'd rather pawn guns than buy back.
Lol why the random shots at libs? You know they want this divide right? You’re getting played
Full agree. You saved me a great many keystrokes today!
@@nateb3679 What are you talking about? Dude didn’t even mention them. Disagreement is not division, anybody who says otherwise is trying to club you into silence.
@@derekeastman7771 dude read his entire comment before replying. he did take random shots at libs for no reason other than animosity. THAT is not a disagreement. THAT is a divide. please read the entirety of the dialogue before trying to join the discussion
Dude for that Garand Thumb video I was high, and I did not think any of it was real until I went back to it after I came down. Shit was wild
You bringing up collectibles reminded me I wanted a Henry's rifle and a muzzle loader lol
The thought of a Type 1 AK or any colleable gun being thrown in a crusher instead of being put into the hands of a collector hurts me.
Reminds me of that news story of a lady who brought an STG 44 her vet dad or grandpa had to a buyback and the cops were like "Hold the fuck up, you know what this is right?"
I remember when an old lady brought an original STG-44 to a gun buy back and the officers there told her to auction it off and she made 30k and saved a piece of history. Makes me sad thinking about all of the collectibles that didn't get saved.
she's not allowed to auction an unregistered full auto right? Perhaps it can be used as a non-letter mg dealer sample.
I had a Xdm 525 i used it in IPSC and won 75% of the Stages in 2019 . I Loved it
Love the point you made about gun buy backs. Not worried about expressing your opinion, no matter if it’s unpopular
Re: guys at the indoor gun range with AR's with aggressive muzzle breaks - this is why I keep a carbine length Mosin in my trunk when I go to the range. What's that? You want to be loud? Okay bet. Imma bout to shake the walls.

You do that indoors, you are a terrible person. That’s evil, but it’s a good way to hurt someone you don’t like without breaking the law
If you go to an indoor range expecting a quiet experience your an idiot
@@gifthorse3675 no, I know it won’t be quiet, what I mean is, if you are on purpose, trying to shoot the loudest weapon you can, then that’s evil!
@@gifthorse3675 what a absolutely moronic hot take.
Buybacks are only ok if the state auctions them off to increase revenue. A cool idea to generate revenue for anti-gun states is sell buyback/confiscated guns to other states that are more pro-2A
Theyd rather chop them up while dressing up your sons up like little girls
1. Buyback unwanted firearms.
2. Return the known stolen firearms to their rightful owners.
3. Auction the remainder.
4. Crush the undesirables.

I wish Detroit would do another gun buyback. I have pulled 22 guns out of the Detroit River and turned them in. Sure would be nice to pay for Christmas with the proceeds vs paying for my own fuel to take them to the department since they don't even want to pick them up anymore.
Those guns are evidence my guy 🤣
So people really do loose their guns in boating accidents 😅😉
"And probably offer them a backup mag... You never know..."
Brilliant...
I’m basically a 2-A originalist, with the pure exception of weapons of mass destruction. I think you should be able to own cannons, tanks, land mines, grenades, etc., but I don’t think I can trust my fellow citizens with a MOAB at the end of the day.
I wouldnt trust my neighbor with a tank... They cant even park their car properly
@@JonasLangnes I mean, I’m still for safety laws lmao. You should still have to get a CDL or a tank-specific heavy equipment license to drive one lol. I’m just talking more so about the guns on a tank, but I’m sorry your neighbor is a shitty driver. I don’t suppose you live in Marietta?
Exactly
The Founding Fathers allowed people to own their own War ships and Naval Frigets. The reason why was because they weren't sure the Federal Government should even have the ability to form a Military. Fearing a Federal Government with a military would have a valid reason to ban and remove Military arms from the people and give the Government a more powerful military that would be better capable of infringing on the citizen's rights.
@@macabweu7682 Umm the navy was started in 1775 ... it was the continental navy and they commissioned 13 frigates to built for the revolutionary War. They did supplement their naval power with privateer ships by issuing letters of Marque that part is true . But they never thought "We shouldn't have a navy at all". Because they were in the middle of a revolutionary war. It was disbanded in 1785 because the newly formed US was broke as shit and couldn't afford it. Now they reformed it 1794 permanently after merchant shipping came under threat from Barbary pirates. And that's why the navy has 2 birthdays.
I feel I can trust my fellow citizen more than I can trust the military, after all my fellow citizen is afraid of being killed or going to jail, the military has no such fears. I get your point but do consider this food for thought.
IMHO there's a distinction between arms, weapons, ordinance, guns etc... The founders knew well why they wrote arms and we know it as well.

We had a gun buyback here in Union County NJ, someone turned in an original Enfield for 150 bucks, I contacted the Prosecutor's office running it and thank God they are donating all military surplus and historical arms turned in to the NJ Militia Museum. It’s heartbreaking to see some of those classics get destroyed because of the buy backs
You should do a video on the TOKAREV SVT40 rifle
On Buybacks: I am right on line with your confliction. I am reminded of the incident in CT were a lady turned in an STG 44 into a buyback event. Luckily an officer was honest and knew what she had and allowed her to sell(?) It to a museum. If BDU, or classic wants to go there and sponsor a buy back with the intent to get suspect guns off the street and rescue unwanted guns I can get behind that.
I imagine the museum must deactivate the weapon permanently because...America
I think the shitty thing for me is that I respect what people are allowed to do with their own property, even if it's a near priceless piece of history. But it breaks my damn heart to hear guns like this get destroyed by people who are looking to pay for dinner and a show.
