  • Welcome to the ultimate RAM showdown! Join me as we dive into the impact of RAM on gaming performance. We're testing four configurations: 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB, using a Ryzen 5 2600 and Radeon RX580 setup. Does more RAM mean better FPS? Can you swap RAM while your PC is running? And how does RAM affect gaming performance? Let's find out!
Starting with Fortnite at 1080p, our 4GB test was a stuttery mess, averaging 109 FPS with severe lows. Upgrading to 8GB didn't fix all issues but bumped average FPS to 145, a 33% increase. Moving to 16GB pushed FPS to 189, enhancing smoothness and stability noticeably. Finally, 32GB saw minor gains, hitting 198 FPS on average, improving stability further.
Next, we tackled Forza Horizon 5. At 4GB, it was practically unplayable, averaging 82 FPS with glaring stutters. Upgrading to 8GB smoothed things out, reaching 92 FPS. Moving up to 16GB and 32GB continued to improve performance marginally, showing more stable FPS and reducing stutters.
Switching gears to Starfield, 4GB crashed at launch. 8GB was barely playable at 28 FPS, while 16GB saw slight improvements, averaging 31 FPS. Surprisingly, 32GB performed worse than 16GB, averaging 30 FPS, showcasing diminishing returns with more RAM.
Throughout these tests, we saw that while 8GB is passable for basic gaming, 16GB offers a significant improvement in stability and performance across the board. 32GB showed some benefits but with diminishing returns, especially on this hardware setup.
So, whether you're a casual gamer or aiming for high-performance tasks, RAM plays a crucial role in your system's capabilities. Stay tuned as we explore more tech experiments and deep dives into hardware performance. Star Citizen entered the chat.
(For reference, it easily pushes into +20GB)

Great analytical look at the differing performance levels with various RAM capacities. I was surprised that 32 wasn't that much better than 16, at least until you layer in multiple simultaneous tasks. Well done!

🙂 my LGA 775 board only accepts 8GB max but everything else i use either 16 or 32. For video cards I recommend leaning towards cards that have high capacitys of VRAM that way you don't have to worry about the video card requesting to share system ram which is No Bueno if your system ram is pretty low to begin with.

My gaming pc came with 1 stick of 6000mhz ddr5 (16gb), and after looking at how many ram windows itself consume, i max that shit out to 64gb, ik you won't ever use allat in gaming but i blame the voices in my head. Ty for educating me tho bro 🙏

Lol, I'm glad you got some value out of the vid! Single channel ram from factory bothers me lol. Oh well. Anyways, have a good one.

Just get 32 GB it costs basically nothing more than getting 16 GB don't skimp out on doubling your ram and eliminating the occasional bottleneck just to save like $5

      I mean, I didn't say don't take 32. I generally agree.
