John that is why I enjoy watching your videos. Always learn something. Over a period of time with your marks you always have a drift for most any type of wind and weather.
Hi John, Just found your videos last year. Your methods have gained a foothold down here (Delaware) as the best way to catch flounder. We tie our own ultra minnow bucktails and man this really works!!! We mostly use the 5/0-6/0 baitholder hooks on our dropper, bucktail on bottom but plan to try the tsunami glass minnow teasers this season. Thanks John, great videos!!!
I have been watching your video for quite a while and really enjoy them and love the way you tell us a lot of your secrets of catching flounder. I will be fishing the area of the Gulf of Mexico along the Panhandle of Florida and will be using your methods. Your books are great also. My question is, I have looked for the Gamakatsu baitholder hooks but everyone I find do not have the little spikes to hold your grubs. Where can I find the hook you mention? Thanks
John, I've been following you since 2014 and have whole heartedly adopted you methods of fishing for flounder. Bucktail on the bottom and a bait holder hook 12" above on a dropper loop. I tried the glass minnow on the dropper loop last week in Avalon and had most of my fish on the bottom bucktail, but I'm not giving up on the glass minnow just yet. I use Gulp! all the time. I literally just went on line and bought Otter Tails after watching this video. Question: are you seeing more fish on the Otter Tails vs the Gulp? Are you making a switch or just trying to vary things up a little? Thanks
NICE!!! Is there a reason why you use the larger gulp on the teaser? I always put the smaller one on the teaser and I thought it was because it looked like a larger baitfish is chasing a smaller one.
John, I'm running a 2oz bucktail with a 3" green mullet 12" down on a swivel and a trailing naked hook 24" behind with minnow or gulp. Been a dry season for me but everyone is pulling them up. NJ
JOHN FOR MY MONEY ALWAYS GO BIG, BIG HOOKS, BIG BAIT, BIG FISH ALWAYS !!! i AM REALLY AMAZED AT HOW THE FLUKE PREFER A BUCKTAIL EVEN WHEN THE BUCKTAIL HAS SHITTY ACTION WOW JOHN GOOD STUFF.
It amazes me that you guys can use just gulp and catch fish. In Connecticut, at least where I am it's almost impossible. A strip of squid has to be used or you will not get a thing. Any advice on keeping smaller jigs down while drifting. We are lucky if we can hold bottom with 6 oz where I live.
I am in Louisiana. I fish delicroix, hopedale and lake Pontchartrain area. Do you think your style of fishing flounder would work on southern flounder?
dragonp045 I have used it with a trailer hook on the big gulp in South Carolina and caught some what the guide called giants but they were 18-20 inches so about keeper size here
We had complicated 'flounder rigs' ; lots of spreaders and beads and knots, baited with sand worms. Big weight, straight down in 30 feet of water, back in 1962. How the flounder have changed! - and sand worm - what's that?!
That sounds like winter flounder gear. These are summer flounder. There are very few winter flounder in this region now. They were extremely plentiful 50 years ago.
A trick is to keep the fish in the livewell just in case u want to cull, I always do with mine so no meat goes to waste. And they almost never die. Out of 50-70 I've culled only one hasn't swam away
Just my opinion if you release your fluke you should use a rubber net so that the regular net doesn't damage the fluke tail. On the west coast we use a rubber net if the halibut are to small and so be don't damage the tail.
John, Love your videos. I'm getting back into saltwater shore fishing after a long freshwater run. Have you fished the sound in Connecticut waters? I intend to try your jigging methods from shore between the Housatonic and Ct. River.
We fish out NJ the raritan bay are and some times the sod banks Of south Jersey mind you he is 8 years old but a huge fan watches all the fluke videos you have
@@KEPTIFISHING If he is catching any fluke, he is likely doing it right. Keep in mind it can be very challenging to get keepers from shore, and right now in NY (not sure about NJ), it's hard to get keepers in many areas that should have them.
I'm planning to fish for flounder in the Thames estuary, using a 15 cm Berkley Gulp Alive Bloody Nereis Worm attached to a treble hook spinner, which I would simply drag across the water. Is this fishing technique feasible, or is the bucktail a must?
Awesome video!!! Very informative and nice size Fluke!!! You have a very awesome channel too!!! I liked and subscribed!!! My wife and I fish from the Indian Ocean off the coast of Perth, Western Australia!!! If you find time your very welcome to check out our channel too!!! Take care and tight lines!!!!
I have learned so much from your videos, Mr. Skinner. Thank you, sir.
I CONCUR !!
John, I've learned a ton about fluke fishing watching your videos. thanks very much for all the input love your videos keep slamming them fluke.

Awesome! It's so much more fun and productive than dragging bait.

Your posts are very helpful , thanks

Wow what a solid day, was waiting to see this second part and it did not disappoint. 👍👍👍
Hi John, I noticed that the Otter Tail was flat and curled. Are you hooking them on the short side (curl up) or the flat side?
Great way to break in the new boat. Congrats!
Just found these videos .Any use this method from the Tampa Bay area?

mark lessandrini you’re not doing something right if you can’t catch with gulp
How do u catch the bigger flounder out of a school
John, you ever try bacon instead of gulp?
Hi John,
You use for the catching flounder additional flavors from the Pro Cure?, for example a Shrimp or Flounder Pounder?
Have not used it, but I have some to try this season.
Thank you.
I hope you will report the results.

dragonp045 I'm in Hammond did you try it?
Have you ever used Gulp crabs for blackfish?
enjoy the new boat . Nice fluke
What a nice sea-bass John, mark that spot for sure
What boat is that
We had complicated 'flounder rigs' ; lots of spreaders and beads and knots, baited with sand worms. Big weight, straight down in 30 feet of water, back in 1962. How the flounder have changed! - and sand worm - what's that?!

anyone know where is he fishing?
Would you go fluke fishing in a kayak with paddles just asking because I got me one do you think it’s a good idea
Newton Branch yessir most fun thing you'll do, target red fish too most of your time will be catch and release there's not much space on a kayak
I fish on a party boat out of Captree, how do get an once and 1/5 spro
to hold bottom?
Russ Kolbert The faster your drift the heavier you gotta go man. Sometimes 3 to 5 ounce on a party boat.
I always start with a 3oz on a party boat..... then work my way up or down from there depending on whether it holds or not
U make my days, Mr skinner!!
here in texas we use 8 to 9 in live mullet
is that in nyc
Are they more active on the bigger baits at a certain water temperature also? or more so just on certain structure like you said
John... just curious... have you ever tried the Keitech (strong squid scent) baits for flounder?
Those quantum baitcasters do good in saltwater
Holy FLOUNDER 😱 That was a NICE FISH.
If you take me that increases our keeper limit lol
A trick is to keep the fish in the livewell just in case u want to cull, I always do with mine so no meat goes to waste. And they almost never die. Out of 50-70 I've culled only one hasn't swam away
You need to check regulations before you do that. I believe they very state to state and that's not allowed in some.
John, how long is the line attached to the drift sock? Do you keep it constant or vary the length depending on conditions?
Just my opinion if you release your fluke you should use a rubber net so that the regular net doesn't damage the fluke tail. On the west coast we use a rubber net if the halibut are to small and so be don't damage the tail.
Just went out in the inlet infront of sour thumb didn't get anything. Have any good fluke fishing spots?
John, Love your videos. I'm getting back into saltwater shore fishing after a long freshwater run. Have you fished the sound in Connecticut waters? I intend to try your jigging methods from shore between the Housatonic and Ct. River.
Only the LI side of that area.
My son is a big follower of yours he has tried the techniques but has not caught his keeper mainly fish of pier any tips?
Roughly where does he fish, and does he see other anglers catch keepers?
We fish out NJ the raritan bay are and some times the sod banks
Of south Jersey mind you he is 8 years old but a huge fan watches all the fluke videos you have

John Skinner Fishing thanks for the information we are going to go at it and try try try.
Stinks you had your limit already!
I notice you are anchored at one point in video NO DRIFT ?
Edwin Velez it's a drift sock not the anchor
It slows down the drift not anchor
Great fish John. What kind of boat and How big is it. Used finds are great!
Is this off of Long Island?
yes
Awesome, I watch your content daily.
do you keep your boat In a marina or trailer it home?
Do you ever do any foshing on the southshore of long island?
"Drift control sock" - in English = Drogue. Two nations separated by a common language.
What size hook are you using on the 6 inch grub?
I'm planning to fish for flounder in the Thames estuary, using a 15 cm Berkley Gulp Alive Bloody Nereis Worm attached to a treble hook spinner, which I would simply drag across the water. Is this fishing technique feasible, or is the bucktail a must?
Very informative your the best
Are you having the same problem with the new gulps being too soft? It sucks!!
Awesome videos!
Great video... think they would work on halibut
I am told from Californians yes.
Awesome video!!! Very informative and nice size Fluke!!! You have a very awesome channel too!!! I liked and subscribed!!!
