Here at Sun Distributing, we believe that the supplier of the window film should know every aspect of the business. It makes it hard when a tinter or tint shop needs support but their supplier does not know the business from one end to the other. I started as a tinter helper in 1989 and worked my way up to the point of distribution. Along the way I have put together a successful retail tint shop and know every hurdle that a tinter and/or shop owner could face. I believe that there is an extreme value to having a company with our experience in the industry having your back.

I ordered 0 % film for a client that wanted all the doors and the back windshield completly blacked out with Zero % on a limousine. 0 percent is exactly that... Absolutely NO visibility. He was happy with it but couldn't see behind him at ALL. That was years ago and I still have the leftover roll. Nobody ever wants Zero.
Now they have it to where u can switch your rear view with a camera
I want double zero tint on my pano sunroof, mini windows, trim glass, 35% everywhere else, 50% windshield
@@kindbud No need to use 2 layers of Zero % film. Can't see through 1 layer at all. 0% also means exactly that. Zero visibility.

This is a great example of you get what you pay for in quality of tint materials. Before watching I always wanted to just get the Wal-Mart tint just because of all the money I would save. After seeing some of your videos I realized that the $50 I would have spent was better spent going with a professional and getting the actual results I was looking to get. Thank you for all your videos and knowledge. It has helped me and I bet the rest of the community at large.
But the problem is.....at least in my area, these clowns have raised prices significantly because "COVID". They're full of shit
I first went to professionals to get 20% but i later wanted something darker. so instead of going to the professionals and having to pay ANOTHER 400 for a complete tint again, i got the 5 percent from walmart (same brand) and the quality isn’t too bad. honestly i’m pretty satisfied with it.
I have tried other brands in the past, like the ones at autozones and stuff. those are pretty terrible, however the black magic from walmart is pretty decent
@@manuelito2299 How come, what's different about AutoZone tint vs. the Black Magic?
@@coldblackice they’re different brands. the brands stores like autozone sell (i believe they’re called gila) have a color to them. instead of the tint just being clear, they have a deep color to it. i’ve seen people with purple, blue, and even red windows, which just looks cheap, unprofessional, and blurry. that black magic however has almost no color to it and is clear.
@@manuelito2299 Ah interesting, thanks for the info
Would have been nice to see what it looked like on the outside of car in the shop and also when you pulled it outside. Saw a small glimpse from the side of the car but that was it. Straight mirror I'd assume 😂
Yes for sure needs a 360 walk around outside with the doors shut!
Yea with a lamp inside.
Dude. Thank you for making this video. This is the type of videos we need to see before deciding on tint. Tint shops should have videos of different cars they done from the inside and out to help people get a better perspective of what they really want
Super dangerous! I had 5% on my 4runner and almost hit a pedestrian crossing a cross walk at night! Could not see him!!

I’ve actually thought about if it would be cool on a black car with white racing stripes to not tint where the stripes would be on the back glass and have a racing stripe the continues all the way through the back window
Thinking of tinting my windshield and here are a few questions I have unanswered.
1. How dark is too dark for the average person, and the average car. Like where does it stop being useful and where does it start becoming a hazard.
2. Inspection stickers that normally get out up in front driver’s corner… what do you do with those after you have tint installed? Can’t have them stuck on your film… and I can see a mechanic slicing and tearing the tint trying to remove the prior and install a fresh set if you do a cut out window for it.
3. If you had to recommend a safe percentage that offers privacy and sun shielding without being a risk day or night what percentage or percentage range is that?
I have mine done at 35%. Factory reflectors weren't good enough so I got LED bulbs. Keep in mind that 35 is too dark for most people's side windows. This time I got my windshield tinted I had the shop cut a little rectangle for the sticker. This does 2 things: allows you to replace inspection sticker and allows the cops to see your sticker more clearly so there is less a chance of you getting pulled over. I think 35 is the best of both worlds: offers some extra privacy but not too noticable for cops. Me personally, I would go 20 or darker with better headlights. My 35 windshield is also more effective cause I have a black interior and double 5% on all other windows with an extended 5% brow.
I have 10 over 5 over factory on my truck and 25 on the windshield with a 5 percent bottom strip and top strip and at night it’s not terrible but still pretty dark and daytime it’s not bad at all. Dusk and sunrise are the worst times because headlights don’t really light much up during those times but I would recommend 20-30 percent depending on how private you want your inside
35% imo is common useful limit. 25% is great for privacy and still can see out at night but not the best. My personal favorite is 25% on rear doors/back glass, 35% on front doors, 70% ceramic front windshield, 25% front brow. This combo is great. The darker rear limits cabin light and makes the 35% that's upfront seem darker and aids in privacy while you can still see out very well. The 70% ceramic on the windshield is practically invisible but drops cabin temp dramatically. The 25% brow helps block the bright af sun. It's like a big sun visor spanning across the top of you're whole windshield. On vehicles that don't have a factory brow. I'd recommend 5-10% for the brow.
Anything under 25% is not useful and poses a larger risk at night. But 35% is still plenty dark for majority of people.
4:36 that moment you question “WTF am I doing”
As a tint studio, what is your opinion about road safety regarding tinting the back window?
Part of road safety is the ability to see through the window of the car in front of you. You can see people break many cars in front. (that is why you should always have triple distance if you drive behind a van or truck because you can't see anything).
If you maintain a proper following distance you're never going to have to look through someone's window because you'd be able to see what's in front of them anyway. Never understood why people like to get so close to have to even do that.
you answered your own question
(that is why you should always have triple distance if you drive behind a van or truck because you can't see anything).
should always do this, your reaction time might not be faster than the car in front of you can brake
Don’t fucking drive on top of people and you wouldn’t have to worry about that guy…you shouldn’t have to do that lol
Thanks for doing the things we never knew we needed to know!
Use it for work van rear and sliding door glass to protect expensive tools from prying eyes
Today I learned that window tint is just a film you put on windows. I honestly thought the windows were just made like that. also pretty sure it's illegal to drive with anything darker than maybe the middle one.
These are aftermarket tint. OEM tinted windows do also exist, but most are used on the rear side windows due to the fact that every state in the US have very different tint laws and manufacturers just want to sell cars.
I don’t know if any states allow front windshield tinting. I know a lot of states follow the line on the top corner of the windshield for legal tint lines. Depending on the state, you might only be able to tint certain windows or use certain percentages. Most mainly restrict window tint levels on the front side windows and windshield, but it varies by state.
In Iowa your windshield can be tinted but it has to be a very light tint. 70% is the darkest you can go
really, all I want is to block out the heat from the UV rays and the glare from the sun, but I don't think I could handle the purple! Really makes me stop and think about how dark I even want my back and door windows. I would be more worried about driving during the day and not seeing a car. I kind of already have a little bit of a blind spot on the driver's side of my truck because of my side mirror not quite getting everything in view. Night time, not so bad with head lights. I think I would go with 35 on the windshield and 25 on the doors and back window. I need to pay more attention to how that might actually look from inside! Great video, Matt!
I met a guy around Seaside,FL , which is about halfway between Panama City and Destin, and he had two layers of 5%. That window was stupid dark in the Florida sun, I can’t even imagine what it looks like at night in the boonies
I'd use it to get all the " tiny" glue bits on a redo!
This is very unsafe. Here I see cars getting 5 percent on the windshield. Very scary in my opinion. I don't even offer my clients anything lower than 10 percent. Just don't want to deal with any foolishness
And here i am just trying to get my 25 matched for the windshield and everyone tells me they won't install because I won't be able to see out...
Just wondering, are you up north or do you live in a desert like in Nevada? Cuz in deserts 5% is necessary IMO.
@@Zedstein lol. I live in Nevada, 5% tints are my favorite modification
Already purple out of the box 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol at 3:57 3 quarters of your windshield is like a mirror!
I used the 2.5% to do a brow tint in my car it looks pretty good
Lol. When customers are slow…. Just make a viral video for CZcams and earn that way! Haha!
Entertaining video.
Tinting the windshield any % seems so stupid to me
I think the safe tint it's 70% on the windshield with some 5% black banner on top...
Wow, big difference between 1 and 2 layers!
Is he driving around with the sun shade still on ?!!?lol
I get the 0% call once a year at my shop, once I confirm they know what they're asking for I offer to spray paint it for them. I'll do 5% on the windshield if you tell me it's a show car but I can't stand stupid

Bought a little versa and gonna do my first window tint installation and just ordered a heat gun for better installation hope it goes well and if I have any extra I’ll add to my mustangs windshield
I like to see out of my jeep windows! it had some dark tint on the two doors idk maybe 5 maybe 10 or 15 percent - and I could NOT see in the day I’d just see the reflections from within the jeep and at night - well I’d have to roll both windows down to drive
IS NO DARK ENOUGHT 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
i told my dad about tints and how it makes it harder for you to see inside a lot and a little harder inside too and he said something to the lines of " well its not good tint if its harder to see through it" and i told him theres no way to get tint that doesnt do that and he said " they have one way mirrors". please give me an explanation i can give to him that explains why tints are harder to see through from inside as well.
I would believe it would be best with pro tint film rather than cheap Walmart tint
But anything under 5% in any of the windows is too much
I have 10% in all rear windows of my truck and 35% on all front windows and that’s perfect for driving during the day and night
Quality tint is easier to see out of idk about 0% but for 15 ceramic tint you don’t sacrifice much visibility
I wish a clear 70% ceramic tint complete windshield was allowed in Texas.
How the hell are you going to put in all that effort installing that without showing us what i to looks like from the outside.... I feel like I've been bamboozled. I wanted to see what it looks like from outside, with a passion, but you didn't deliver. You sir, deserve a nice hug.... In the face.... With the palm of my open hand. Ugh

This video made me follow ! Non stop laughs lol
I have 20% over factory 30% on back which is appears to be a 5% if you do math. I can tell, it’s dark as hell. You can’t see sh1t at night except the street lights. I imagine what it’s like to drive with 0% at night.
If you are really good. You order black out flat glass film and shrink that to the glass window. Yes I said flat glass. It took me two hours to shrink my civic rear window but the payoff was worth it.
Put it between two sheets of plexi and frame it/ put it in front of a light
Cops see this and start drooling
Whatchu need to see out the rearview for thats why they got backup cameras 😂😂
I love tinted cars, but i'll be god damn, windshield tint below 50% should be a freakin felony offense. I see way too many cars with stupid levels of windshield tint just like this driving around many of which are usually the ones where I am watching them almost cause an accident by running a stop sign or something. I've had 20% on my cars for two decades now and on a dark road you can't even see what's next to the car, I cant even imagine how bad something like 5% would be at night on the front.
Do the whole car triple 0😂😂😂
Cool video man thanks for the years of advice
How come I’ve seen the same darkness but you can see threw it differenins in quality or money?
I got 20% windshield and been fine. Drive 20h in Northern Quebec/Ontario no lights etc never had a problem. I was thinking about doing 5% on my next car aha
How is even 5% legal? Where I live you need at least 60% light going through in both directions lol
Tint so dark, you need a flash light to see me
Anyone hear of the electric tint like in shower doors that fog up. Wonder if 5% and that film on top would work to black out the windows without the grey appearing from the outside
I live in jersey and tints are quite enforce by cops. I bought my car with 20% all around I believe. Been pulled over for them like 7 times in 3 years probably and ticketed about 3 of those times. The legal limit is anything in the back half and none at all in the front. If I put 30% or more do you think it would go unnoticed?
@@Carbon_Fiber damn that’s cool af. I don’t get it tho cuz it’s obviously tinted lol. And no cop has ever brought the machine out for me. Also update. Got pulled over again for it Friday night. Got a ticket. Cop was very nice tho
Yeah but let me know which states this would be legal in?
Can you review motoshield pro tint? I have it on my truck and there's some haze but it's really not bad for literally $100 for a whole truck. Looking at amazon reviews it seems terrible but I can deal with it just fine. I'd like to know what an expert would say about it.
Pay the extra money and get good film done by a professional. A high quality ceramic tint can block tons of uv and heat protecting the interior. If you plan on keeping it a long time then do it right the first time. The slight haze is dangerous.
@@sweis12 I agree
I'm curious as to what state you're allowed to tint your windshield let alone tint that dark all around?
It’s not legal, for road use. He didn’t get on any public roads and did this purely as an experiment. You can have tint above a certain line on your windshield, but only above it. That goes for every state. Percentages are different for pretty much every single state. 5% is usually allowed on the very back window and rear passenger windows I believe but again, you need to check for your state specifically.
Anything under the AS1 line is illegal for the windshield that goes for every state regarding the rest of the windows it varies state to state also you cant tint headlights/fog lamps and taillights.
Did i miss view from the outside in?
This was fun😂
This is like the vampire cars from DayBreakers
You should do 0.0% all round. Maybe your eyes adjust so you can see
I once thought it was a good idea to but 2.5% on my Grand Prix and let’s just say sheriffs had a field day with me lol
So i have 50 % and a top layer of 35 % how much percentage do I have in total ?
You gave me some ideas

Vampire approved?
In my blazer on the 3 back windows I went flat black spray paint until a flashlight up against the window wasn't visible at all. True 0%. Not 0.00001%, ZERO
nice video, real interesting!
Is one-way-tint/one-way-glass legal?
In the daytime maybe, at night probably not.
My car came with this horrible ghetto tint that i want to remove, what is the best way to remove it from the back window?
Just do 0% on all the windows and windshield, Put a high definition camera on the front of the car, and drop a huge curved monitor on the dash. Problem solved!
Is there such a tint that’s dark outside and clear as day
inside. If so what’s the tint meter read it at?
No. That doesn’t exist. People will tell you ceramic works that way but it doesn’t. That is urban legend.
If it is not Ceramic tint it is garbage tint but wicked video
I would have just tinted the *outside* of the windshield instead of the inside.
im kinda dissapointed watching this video... and he never showed how it looked from the outside. only inside.
My buddy did 2 sheets of 2.5% all around and got in an accident 2 days later cause he couldn’t see at night
I would have thought 0% tint was no tint at all 😅 so what would that be 100% 🤣
i have no proof but i think you cant have clear windows
wish you showed more of the outside of it in the sun
