It’s very important to note the difference in fighting Russia like the conflict in Ukraine, with a powerful Air Force, Finland has advanced F-18’s with F-35’s on the way, war is unpredictable, and it’s impossible to say how much this will make a difference, but if Ukraine is holding on while being severely outnumbered with basically no air support, common sense wouid tell us these modern aircraft wouid make a significant impact
Yup their army is also just all around better equiped than Ukraine with Sweden also being able to give a lot more 😅

Ukraine is (sadly) not a part of NATO. If they were the situation would be completely different. Most likely the war wouldn't have begun at all.

We can manage it :) I have at younger age, -37 at age of 6yo. It was fun, i had facial hair at age of 6 :D
lower than -35c is every winter thing in east and north. Not inside 3rd ring road thou.
The coldest weather in winter war was huge luck. Before and after mild winter temps just the biggest raid and it was very cold at then. It's kinda a myth that it was cold all the time, it wasn't.
This depends on the area of Finland we are talking about, within lapland, yes, EASILY can reach that. At southern Finland, there is possibility of -30 C and it is not uncommon but, it isn't common either. Finnish people, always have one thought about the weather, erratic. For foreign nations, Finland is the most ideal spring board for an attack into Russia. Finland is the shield, and Poland is the sword, Poles and the Finns can buy more than enough time for rest of Europe to get their armed forces mobile.
During peace time, Alaska, Canada, Finland, Norway and Sweden can provide the most ideal places to test any military equipment for horrific winters, USA and Sweden already have pretty extensive cooperation of research and development. Difficult to not crack a smirk upon imagining what kind of madness United States Air Force and Swedish Air Force, will cook up together.
I heard about a USA and Sweden co-developing a new IFV with the CV90 as the basis, which has me quite interested too.

As a member of the Finnish Marines, reserves;
Strictly speaking, Finland doesn't NEED NATO.
Sure, being part of NATO helps, but even without it, we could hold the line. Much is made of that 1340 km of border with Russia, much less said about the fact that only about 100 - 300km of that border is easy ground for tanks, APCs etc., the prefered arms of Russia. The rest are forest and lakes, good luck getting through those alive... Those 100-300km of easily traversible ground is, in turn easily saturated and mauled by the largest artillery capacity in Europe, which happens to be located in Finland.
This aspect is always missing in these videos. Csnt understand when war channels dont even bring it up. Difference in warfare when fighting in country littered with lakes and dense forests is something else than fighting in ukraine full of flat fields. Suddenly drones and tanks dont have so much uses. Enemy is much harder to spot and cover is everywhere.
russia having hard time in terrain suitable for their army proves that they would be utterly destroyed in nordic woods.

so are the Ohio class subs that I'd be my life savings on at least one of being in striking range of Moscow at all times. Those things are way more terrifying. People always seems to forget how much aid Finland got from the Nordics in the winter war, especially Sweden despite their official "neutral" stance. Sweden supplied twice that of Finland's national defense budget in financial aid and a massive amount of weapons. The Swedish government and the Swedes wanted to intervene with forces but the king didn't want to violate what at the time was a 100 year old treaty of neutrality and manage to persuade the government to refrain from doing so. But a Nordic Corp of around 10 000 voluntaries (almost all Swedish) did in fact fight the Soviet Union in the war and took out around 5000-8000 Soviets (300 according to Finnish sources) while taking 30 losses.
The loses did u made up
Finland received far too little aid from the Nordic countries in the Winter War. Norway and Denmark tried hard to be neutral and not be involved in war. The eagerness to help Finland in case of a crisis is much better in the Nordic countries now.
It was mostly Finns living in Sweden that voulontered.
You are kindof creative with the numbers, but with all that material aid most parts on the front russia had 1-20 advantage on tanks, artillery and planes and 1-6 advantage on manpower
People seem to forget that official finnish historiography is basically a bunch of fairy tales of them not provoking soviets in any way, not being ally of Hitler, not having concentration camps, not commiting war crimes, not helping with encircling Leningrad and starving it's people to death, not having ideas of having some kind of "great Finland". They won against everyone and everything, yet for some reason their army unconditionally surrendered in both winter and continuation wars and their country was allowed to exist simply because Stalin thought it would be cool to have a neutral buffer state nearby after the war ends. But why am i even saying that? That myth is imprinted within the brain, even in Russia there are tons of people who will tell you that Mannerheim wasnt that bad.
Honestly it is not unlike the current ukrainian affair - they are winning in western media, winning this, winning that, Russia is collapsing, conscripts fighting with shovels and stealing toilets.. but when there will not be enough space to dig new cemeteries to bury ukrainians they will eventually surrender and sign up whatever needs to be signed. But the myth will continue to live, with Simo Ha.. i mean Ghost of Kyev and all that goes along with it. In the end it wasnt really that bad for Finland as a state - they flourished by being neutral.
Border may be huge, but Russia only has 8 major roads leading to Finland and every one of those rely on the R21 going from St. Petersburg to Murmansk, all of that within the reach of Finnish artillery. Other options are trying to cross dense forest and muddy fields. Finland has thousands of forest roads that can be used for ambushes, hit and run artillery, suplly chains etc.
There's also a LOT of swamps on both sides of the border on Finland and Russia.
What?! NO! The F-35 is not a good dog fighter. IIRC, 2 out of 3 versions don't even include the gun. It's a long-range first-look, first-kill sniper.

Did I get that right, that at 12:05 you claim Poland is not a NATO member?
Shamefully, the USA declared war on Finland during WWII at Stalin's request.
The continuation war was a tricky one.
"The U.S. government resisted Soviet pressures to declare war on Finland, but on June 30, 1944, it agreed to sever diplomatic relations with the Finnish government."
All it took was a 5 second google search, you should be ashamed of yourself.
shamefully? They had allied with Germany. I totally understand that Finland did that as a way to survive and not out of support for Nazis, but if the US is at war with Germany and Finland allied to Germany, duh we're gonna declare war. Don't be dumb. We sided with an ally because that's logical. The US didn't really DO much of anything in Finland anyways. Grow up.
@@ryantannar5301Many Americans volunteered to fight for Finland though, including Christopher Lee. Finland wasn’t seen as an ally to Germany. Everyone understood. Finland were on their own, and real life you get desperate for any aid when Russia attacks. Russia has attacked Finland at least 5 five times. We’re so aware of history repeating, Poland feels exactly the same way. I really don’t like that we accepted any help from Germany at that time. But my grandfather who fought against the Soviet invasion when he was only 17, he always spoke against both Hitler and Stalin. Veterans rarely talk about the German aid, we often completely forget about it. Nazis didn’t fight along side us, just gave us supplies like Poland helping Ukraine right now. We just had a common enemy, but I wonder if a part of the continuation war was revenge because Stalin feared that Germany would come into Soviet Union through Finland but we were neutral and we would never allow that and do any business with Germany. Stalin made a promise to leave Finland alone if we stayed neutral and so we did but he broke that promise, which is why we don’t trust Russia anymore with those promises. Honestly it hurts that Finland accepted any help from Germany then, and during the continuation war we let the Germans attack Soviet Union from Finland as we tried to take back land stolen by Stalin. I wonder if it was kind of revenge “now that you invaded us, fine let the Nazis attack we don’t care anymore after what you did”… but still I hate it, my gf is from Poland. And Poland as you know what invaded by Germany and Soviet Union… but I wouldn’t go as far as to say that we were allies with Germany, and we didn’t help them fight or do anything. We had a common enemy we were alone and desperate and I think that’s all it was, you accepted any aid when a scary war against such a massive country is suddenly a reality. Logic goes out the window. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’ve never thought that we were allies with Germany. Just accepted artillery and gear to fight Stalin from them. But there wasn’t any kind of nazi ideology going on in Finland or anything like that. And there were volunteers from the UK and US fighting on Finland’s side. Although we didn’t let Christopher Lee fight in the front lines, we didn’t want him to die. But he was there as a soldier helping in other ways. But personally obviously I wish we had nothing to do with Germany back then. I think also people had no idea about the concentration camps and stuff yet. People didn’t yet understand the full extent of Hitler’s evil. But still it’s a very weird thing indeed. For most of my life i didn’t actually even know that we accepted aid from the Germans. I only learnt about it maybe 6 years ago because people don’t talk about it much. I guess people also don’t want to because we’re ashamed of it.
As a Finnish reserve soldier, I approve of this video (there really are about 900,000 of us). Apart from a few small mistakes (number of ships, st Petersburg is little bit in wrong place, etc.), the video gives a pretty good overview of the matter.
This is good but the country that deserves all the support it can get its Ukraine. It’s never gonna need to get to other European nations if we just help Ukraine more
And they did not even mention finnlands strongest weapon : serral is doing his military service at the moment.
Those NLAWs (edit: LAWs) won't even scratch the paint on a proper tank. They're meant for things such as BMPs, MTLBs etc.
Hold my beer. NLAW has two attack modes, direct attack and top attack. The latter attack mode will defeat also MBTs. NLAW is very easy to use, having held one (training version) in my hands for couple of minutes I bet I would have been able to operate the missile system. Finland has also TOWs and increasing number of various SPIKE missile systems.
I think the Ukrainians might argue that point with you.
@@Hattonbank Ah, sorry, I meant the M72 LAW which was mentioned in the video. We call it different here in Finland. I've fired one, too. NLAWs certainly work against tanks but those LAWs don't.
@@amanhasnoname3462 My bad, I was supposed to write LAWs mentioned in the video, not NLAWs. "Kessi" as we call them here in Finland. I served in an anti-tank jaeger company and we had LAWs, NLAWs, Apilas' and way too many mines. Spike LRs I've not handled nor seen in person but I've heard they are indeed good.
In a nuclear war Finland would be basically a nation of underground vaults. Living beneath the ashes of the old world. It's like Fallout's vaults but without all the unethical testing.
As far as US participation goes, the real question is: Who is the president at the time of the attack?
Doesn't matter. NATO vs Russia is World War 3. And the US is not showing up for that one.
We're $35 trillion in debt. Half of the US population doesn't know what bathroom they're supposed to use and those same people hate this country so fervently, they will actively sabotage it.
Conversely, the other half of the population are the ones actually keeping this broken-down wagon half rolling down the road. Who's gonna run the economy and pay the taxes if they're all being shipped off to war? And those people hate their government so purely, they're as likely to fight Washington as Moscow or Beijing.
I do not say what Europe should or should not do with regard to Russia. Just know that the United States is not coming to bail everyone out this time.
Plan accordingly
Message on the video is correct but man, check your facts.
- Poland is NATO country
- St Petersburg is located way more towards west than the map shows
as they said, theres few countries that are as prepared for war.
50,000 vaults? Vault-Tec is from Finland. Change my mind.
14:57 You're completely ignoring that Finland is part of the european union, which has a mutual defense clause that is worded far stronger than NATOs article 5. There would most certainly be boots on the ground from a lot of other EU members
Sweden have joint Nato to
Murmansk is linked with rest of russia only with one railway line and road, which would be blown and Murmansk would cut off
