I have the slide switch single-speed version, and it is amazing on steel. I wish they would have put the variable speed on both of them, as 27,000 RPM is way too fast for aluminum with carbide burrs because it just clogs them up immediately and doesn't cut. The lower speeds on the variable speed option would be awesome for aluminum. I've never used a large die grinder like these before, only handheld air die grinders, and let me tell you this is a game changer. Way faster material removal, and while it is larger and doesn't get into as tight of areas, the two-handed grip gives incredible control. Anytime I would grind inside a small hole in steel with a carbide burr in my air grinder (I seem to be doing that all the time), it would inevitably catch the edge and start driving itself around the inside of the hole super fast. If you've ever done that, you know what I mean. I've done a ton of grinding with the new M18, and I haven't had that happen even once, I believe because of the two-handed control and the mass of the grinder working in my favor. Great review, thanks for sharing.
Oh, and for some reason speed 2 on the variable speed grinder in your video makes my ears bleed. Is that so in real life? To be fair I should probably be wearing hearing protection and safety squints when I watch power tool videos...

Speed 2 sounds horrible. I exchanged 2 now because it's so bad that I thought the bearing was going out. I've tried 3 before giving up. They all sound bad and require ear plugs on speed 2. Two of them even did it on speed 3. All of the other speeds sound great. I also have the Dewalt version that has variable speed selection and variable speed trigger combined. It is smooth as butter in all speeds. Sad because I prefer the paddle design on the M18. It feels more comfortable to me personally. Plus the safety switch on the Dewalt is a little annoying.

I have the single speed m18, it's a incredibly powerful die grinder. Just removed a stubborn bearing from an elliptical crank with a carbide drill bit. After using several bearing removal tools to no avail.

The M12 seems like a good opition for at height work. I bet it would remove stubborn bearing inner races with ease.

With the variable speed M18 version in the rare circumstances when you want to lock it on maybe you can wrap tape or wire around it.

I also just realized at the end of your video that they put LED lights on the variable speed model. I guess they decided the guys that purchase the single speed beast mode slide switch version don't need LED lights? Come on Milwaukee, that's so 2000s.

M18 seems very cumbersome for a die grinder.

These cordless are all great until the battery tech is EOL. On the other hand air tools will work for your life time .

Definitely something to think about. But even the old stuff will usually have an adapter that you can run with the newest technology on the old tools. When I was a DeWalt guy I had my stuff for around 20 years before I just retired it and went to Milwaukee. But it all still worked when I have it to my buddy.
