I’m so sorry you’re going through this, and also amazed how upbeat and hilarious you are about it! I am sure other people, especially young people, with heart conditions will gain a lot from this video. It’s always good to make peace with nature’s plan for your life but I have no doubt that when you get a new valve it’ll be even more incredible than your moustache. Which is very incredible. I have many patients who have undergone the same op at even younger ages and are doing fantastically many years down the line, with a completely normal life. Best of luck.
Just passing by with a quick and huge thank you to surgeons and doctors who perform life saving miracles cause you stuck around and studied at school. You are actual angels 😊

I also suffer from aortic regurgitation, and I know exactly how you feel... It was absolutely devastating when I received the diagnosis back in 2018. I went through all the stages of grief and cried many times. As a hypochondriac, it was my worst nightmare. Now, I have to go for regular checkups to monitor the condition of my heart. Fortunately, my heart still hasn't grown to the point where I feel symptoms and surgery is necessary, but it will be one day. I'd like to think that I've made peace with that fact, but I'm just trying not to think about it. Whatever the case, I really hope we both pull through. You are not alone.
Wish you well man, good luck.
You'd be amazed what symptoms anxiety can conjure after you find out bad things about your heart. Actually, you know as well as me. Hate that heart problems and anxiety have similar symptoms. It sucks when you have both and can't know what's real and what isn't.
@@dizzydisciple I would talk to a therapist/psychiatrist/psychologist. Check to see if there's any on your insurance. Tightness of the chest, feelings of doom, being light headed, and, in fact, most of these symptoms can be caused by both heart problems and anxiety. And actually having heart problems while having serious anxiety issues can lead to a lot of psychosomatic symptoms, which is normal for someone who has found out they have serious heart problems lol. It's all kind of sad and twisted. But if your cardiologist has cleared you, then talking to someone and getting a diagnosis is probably a good thing to do.
@@HisCarlnessI I am with you on this.
I had the Ross Procedure to replace my bicuspid aortic valve last august. Now I’m having issues with narrowing in my donor pulmonary valve. I’ll be going back in for surgery on June 14th . We can’t control most things life throws at us, but we can control how we respond to such things. Keep your head up and maintain a positive attitude. I can speak from experience, when the time comes for your open heart surgery, you’ll be in a much better head space during your recovery if you try not to allow yourself to dwell on what you can’t change.
I don't know if this will make you feel any better, Austin, but my Dad had aortic valve replacement surgery in 2005 when he was 83 years old, after suffering undiagnosed congestive heart failure for a couple of years. He recovered quickly, was working in his garden 3 months later, and lived into his 96th year. I am sure if an 83-year-old with advanced CHF can do so well after the AVR surgery with the technology of 20 years ago, you will be okay. You have my sincere wishes for a swift recovery and long, happy life.
Any insight into why Austin might be putting his surgery off? Seems like waiting until you're weaker to get major surgery would be a terrible idea, but his cardiologist isn't complaining, apparently.
@@dahken417 Cost, I'd say. My Dad was on Medicare, which covered most of the cost. Given American "health care," this surgery and aftercare is apt to cost at least a hundred grand. Even halfway decent insurance isn't going to cover everything.

I’ve been watching your content for around 4-5 years now and to see how you are now is honestly scary because your videos have been there for me at my lowest times. However, knowing that you’re at peace with what may happen is honestly inspiring, especially since you only get one life. I really hope you’re able to make it out of surgery and I’m praying for you, but if you don’t make it, you will be missed by thousands, if not millions of people around the world, and we’re all glad knowing that if you do go, you will go in peace.

I'm 54 and in January I had aortic valve replacement and a bypass. The worst part was afterwards, the back sides of my ribs where they had pressure from being spread open were very unhappy about the entire process. Sneezing, coughing, hiccuping, etc are excruciating. Don't forget to hug your pillow!! Good luck, you won't believe how much better you'll feel afterwards.
How do you feel now if you don't mind me asking? My grandfather had a quadruple bypass a few years ago and recovered much quicker than doctors thought, so it seems like recovery times differ wildly between people
@@lukamic1776 I feel 20 years younger, I immediately noticed that I was no longer dragging my feet when I walked and could walk at a lot faster pace. I recovered quicker than expected also, was released to go back to work 3 weeks ahead of schedule.
I've had open hart surgery also. Yes it's tough for a few weeks, but I'm still here and I'm still doing everything I would like to. I still ride my bicycle fast and on long rides. 100+ kms. Not much is holding me back. I guess I'm happy to live in a time, when this is possible
@@renegadeflyer2 I had mine done at the VA hospital in Houston Texas. They have fantastic doctors and nurses there, the support staff is what gives them a bad rap.
@@eddybarks2490 I’m 32 and had open heart surgery last year to have my aortic valve replaced. I had the Ross Procedure performed. You’re not lying about the sneezing and coughing. Pure agony. But, after about a month, I started feeling better almost daily, and was able return to my physically demanding job 10 weeks after surgery. I don’t want to ever have to have open heart again, but at least I know what to expect if I have to. Stay healthy.
