Carly works really well, but be warned.. it's subscription-based! After 1 year, you will get billed again, and it's tough to cancel.
It's a waste of money. Doesn't work without a subscription. They just keep renewing the subscription even when you've cancelled. I don't know why anyone promotes them. Check out their negative feedback
I think the apex wheels suit it well, the only thing I think you should do is ditch the apex center caps and see if you could get some Porsche centers to replace them.
exactly
On the yellow one too. Needs matching center crest and shorter studs
Agreed with y'all!
@@matt13ross and do it with the 996 PLEASEEEE
@mattross the APEX Wheels are the right move. I love my anthracite colored APEX wheels on my 996tt. Black looks the best with chalk anthracite second and it hides brake dust very well.
Even without the tires on, those Apex wheels look good. Black is definitely way to go with your grey paint. Bronze and grey wouldn’t look as good IMO.
The black wheels fit niceley, add Porsche centercaps and it will look OEM-ish.
The clock spring is not your steering angle sensor !!
I’ve just been through this on my 996tt after changing the steering column.
Look at the ‘telescopic’ section of your steering column, above the pedals. You’ll see a black metal square bracket that houses the steering angle sensor. Check that’s plugged in then use your durametric to reset the sensor position.
Hopefully that sorts you out, keep us posted !
What he said
agree, I finished my 997tt build last year and had the same problem. The steering angle sensor wasn't plugged in, after resetting in durametric I think I even had to drive it around for a while before the error code went away.
You sure? I thought that was the steering lock?
@@matt13ross maybe it’s different on a 997.
I just looked, I saw no such box on the 997.
Not a fan of black wheels either - but the style/color/size looks great!
Of course the black. They wheel goes well together with the other black details and fits very well with the rest of the 997. Shape and color!
Checkout the steering column module and connections/wires. Also double check the clock spring connector and make sure the pins are ok and clean etc.
Truck wheels on the Porsche.
A thought about the PSM: You've got aftermarket coilovers on the car, right? Since the stock setup is tied into the PSM system and it doesn't see them, that could be daisy chaining errors. If they are hooked into the system, there's a brake sensor and I believe an angle sensor (different from the clockspring) on the rack. I may be thinking of older Porsches, so check my homework on that one.
Matt, I would try to look at the schematics you have and see if the wheel sensor wire plugs in on the other end or take a look at your PCM pins. That car was raced and maybe had a Sparco and clipped a wire.
I don't believe it ever had a different wheel
@@matt13rossdo you have access to a schematic? I would start by checking the connector that feeds the clock spring. It should be an 8-12 pin connector under steering column trim
I’d go dark gray. Bronze is overdone and black is common.
Absolutely put those black wheels on it. Looks really good!
Pretty sure the steering angle switch is down the column further. As someone else stated. That style of wheel looks great, gotta be 19's though. And in my opinion, Bronze will compliment the interior better. Loving this so far!
Wheels looks great in black! I absolutely love them!! Yes yes yes!
Can’t wait for another Porsche built.
Ps I actually love the black wheels- I normally hate black wheels but you’re right about chalk grey and black working. Bronze look great too
1000x Yes to the Apex wheels on the 997! In Black for sure
Those wheels look slick with the chalk grey!
The Apex wheels look fantastic. keep it for sure. Bronze or Black will both look amazing. That's definitely the wheel for that car though.
I say put the black ones. With the gray. You killing it
Brother i think the apex styled wheels suits the car, as you mentioned about the upcoming porsches..
But what i want to suggest is add some details of your own.. like black wheels with champagne color accent highlights would look sick..
The Apex wheels look fantastic as they are, no need to change anything imo
Try to find wiring schematics for steering module/clock spring and measure the voltages to see if the wiring is actually working. If you couldn't find the voltage specs then I would remove the wiring and check the continuity of cables.
Looks good as is in my opinion, the black ones i mean, matte on the front, gloss inside
I have gold wheels on my chalk Macan but I’d definitely run the apex since you have them.
There is a reseller on rennlist for center caps and they’re very good for the $70.
Apex wheels look great in black but they’d also look good in bronze so either way is a win
You need to take a look at the schematic/wiring diagram for that circuit. I know you swapped out the entire wiring harness so there is the possibility that the insulation on that wire or one of the pins in the connector isn’t connected/loose. Also basic but look,at fuses, I doubt that is it but you never know. Totally impressed with what you have done to this car. I initially thought you were insane for tackling this project, now I just think your a little crazy. Keep up the good work. Oh… bronze wheels are next level but the matte black looks good and you already have them.
Thanks so much!
I think the Apex wheels are the right style and colour for the car but defo need Porsche centre caps only thing is I think 18s are a bit small for the 997 personally.
Always great videos, Matt!
Sometimes it's two steps forward and one step back, but you're still a step ahead.
Wheels: go with the black.
The rest I'll leave up to you and Porsche specialists. Keep the vids coming! :)
Get some bronze powdercoat and those rims will be perfect.
They are a little small, but meaty tires look fantastic and will give good ride quality. Seems like a good package to me.
One vote for bronze! Yes meaty fitment was what I was thinking too.
Take my vote
Bronze!
Another vote for bronze. Black disappears too much
I’m with bronze for the wheels. While the black did look good I still say it is yesterday’s look and dates too easily. But it’s your car and go with what you like 😁
As far as stock wheels go those split 5’s ain’t just horrible
Black rims for sure! Done. 👌
Silver stock wheels actually look sick IMO. Maybe powder coat them
I think the stock wheels look ok, but DAMN do those Apex wheels look good! I say you leave the Apex wheels just the way they are and slap some sticky rubber on them and roll with those.
Those wheels are a definitive yes! Also the rest of the internet may say I’m an idiot but I love the interior of this car.
I love the interior too!
The apex wheels as they are in satin black
Look perfect with the color and all the touches
That's the move
The original wheels aren't terrible but the Apex as is would be my choice. I like my Carly for BMW for my E92, I'm not tuned, I like the coding options and I don't use their mechanic option.
Those black wheels u put on first are money... wouldn't change a thing...
Black wheels, but Porsche center caps please! Not for nothin, the stock wheels didnt look half bad. Black is way to go though.👍
Those wheels rock! This build is going to look awesome 👏 keep them black👍
those apexs are the way to go for sure! crazy how differently they present on the 997
Use the black wheels, don’t change the finish 👍🏻
Black wheel with OEM cap and you are golden.
BRONZE or GOLD wheels with a custom euro plate out front "SilverNGold"😊
Apex wheels in bronze will look great.
I love your channel, and Taylors! Cool to know you watch him as well.
He's great!
Have you had the Alignment done , if it’s out it can all sorts fault codes , especially steering angle and brake issues. There was probably nothing wrong with you clock spring , undo steering column joint and set the clock spring angle through the computer. Make sure wheels are straight, you slick tyres can give abs faults which is also linked to clock spring and traction control fault codes, good luck Matt
The issue is, the computer is seeing zero input from the steering angle sensor, that's the issue.
@@matt13ross Matt I had a similar issue when I rebuilt a van , when I put the steering rack in the steering column had been turned thus putting the angle sensor out of scope. I use autel , and when I read the steering angle info it showed the value in red, with front wheels straight I had to disconnect the joint and turn the steering wheel to bring the value down to as close as possible to 0 , reconnected joint and cleared fault codes . I also did a steering angle relearn. The slick tyres or odd size tyres cause issue as the sensors think wheels are turning different speeds . If it was a track car the clock spring, abs and the like could have been mapped out of the computer/ ecu so not to cause issues. Good luck . Bronze wheels, !!!!
Black looks good but bronze would look sick on that car. Or a nice bright silver. Either way the style of the wheel is a winner imo.
halfway between black and bronze. a dark / charcoal bronze.
Love the black wheels. Black or bronze... either way I think they look great!
Yes to the Black alloys....
the black apex wheels are *chef's kiss*
Take the apex hub caps out and put porsche ones in
Man that durametric is helpful. I always had the impression 997s were a big jump in tech and had more electronics. Made me a little wary of getting one.
It's a great tool!
Greetings from the UK, the studs you found look like they could be what goes between the block and the bell housing of the gearbox, almost there, keep on keepin' on mate...
Close but not quite.
As far as steering sensor, the custom tune probably just turned off any steering assist from computer. You either need a better tune/ tuner, or find and reload a factory tune.
I vote for the silver tri-spokes. Perfect for the body color
I like the black rims! A lot!
You "made" perfect car setup for these APEX wheels ;)
BLACK 👍
Get the 5 spoke silver wheels Bronze or Black. The Apex wheel style doesn’t look good on her. Just my opinion 🤷🏽♂️
Definite gloss black
I think the black wheels are the way to go on the 997
Matt. Just email Eric and get you some BBS wheels in that style and you will not regret it
The Apex wheels look fantastic!
The apex wheels are great go for them.
Definitely like the design of the black wheels better. I’d money is not an issue look at Forgeline and HRE also. One more that I can’t remember, I’ll get back to you. 🤔
Money is an issue lol
I really like the idea of bronze or the gloss black.
Black wheels look the best!
Go with the black wheels you have. They look great!
Black wheels look great but I kinda like those race wheels too. Might look good in bronze or gunmetal
check something connected between driving wheel and steering rack
Gloss black and keep those wheels man
Black wheels are indeed super nice if they have Porsche center caps (I would do that on the yellow one too imo) and maybe yellow brakes… But i think the size of the oems are a bit better… 18” may be i bit small…
Matt 2 things to look at first the yellow plug on the clock spring the center tab needs to be pushed in when being clipped in if you just push the plug in it clips but not all the way in second you must get a wheel alignment before doing the reset calibration even if if drives straight it will still need an alignment then calibration hope this helps cheers from down under
I'll double check but all seems plugged in
@@matt13ross then i suggest wheel alignment then reset calibration and see how you go matt good luck cheers glenn
The apex wheels in black are lit. I’d keep it just as is
Wheels look awesome man!
Thanks!
Paint those stock turbo wheels metallic black, have them on my Carrera White Cayman and they match nicely!
Those Apex wheels looks awesome on the 997 just keep them black
Apex Black looks 🔥🔥🔥🔥
in my opinion the wheels with the slicks are the best looking and probly performing ones , i bet they are lighter too.. idk them wheels that were there some tire swappaduddle and bam looking re
ady
love the wheels, they look awesome but you need Porsche center caps
I think you should do gloss black bro
Black wheels look amazing 100000%
Car sounds great!
apex wheels looks dope , get new high profile semi slick race tires it will be nuts :D
black is the move brother.
Man, I so enjoy your vids! You damn near make me want to buy a Porsche!
Do it!
number of ignitions in range 3 and beyond are not good... especially high values. This engine has been abused! If I remember correctly this are rpm for high ranges:
Range 3: 7700-7900
Range 4: 7900-8400
Range 5: 8400-9500
Range 6: 9500-11000
I was thinking the exact same thing when Durametric came up! The again it was a track car so maybe not too surprising. Still, that engine lived a hard life.
Honestly not concerned guys, it runs great! It was a track car and was CHEAP! This isn't a 20K miles OEM garage kept never driven hard car. It's a car that was DRIVEN and will be DRIVEN.
For a track car, the rev limit might have been increased when tuning, which would mean you would hit these ranges more often...
@@matt13ross Yes. Here in Italy 997 turbo starts from 85k, so yes a real bargain! This cars are very robust, mine was only an observation. You must drive this car! I hate seen this cars parked in a garage and left there.
P.S. thanks for all this content about this cars. You're doing a great job, keep going!
Thanks so much!
build the next s65 with supercharger! you are gonna looooove the s65 supercharged! had 2 of them. most brutal sounds you can get! :D
I came for the Baby Duramax and have found myself intrigued by the assortment of Porsches. I hope the diesel makes a reappearance someday!
Glad you stuck around after all this time!
I would use the black Apex 100% they look great just the way they are
Seems like only 5 minutes ago you were posting on the Facebook pages looking for your next project. And 001M Outlaw rims look fantastic on a 997..
It was a bit ago!
Check out the 993 turbo twist 18 inch wheels in black. My favorite.
19:00 The guy who lives there is probably sick of you always doing pulls in front of his house. 🤣
Possibly lol
Please no split rims this time, keep this one more classy. Yes the black wheels look good
Black apex wheels 🔥
Refinish the forged wheels! Metallic charcoal (not too dark). A diamond cut lip could look pretty good too.
But if you do go with the Apex, at least the black may disguise how ugly and cheap they look.
Keep the black wheels as they are 🔥
apex wheels look sweet
Powder coat the stock wheels Gloss Black, then purchase the Black Center Caps you will like the new look.
I'd prefer OEM TT wheels, I do like the black wheels.
