Swamp Camping In The Rain

- I headed out to a swampy part of the acreage for a quick camping trip. I used the Gazelle screen tent and a cheap cot to keep me up off the ground. Not many mosquitos yet, but that will change soon I'm very sure! It was another cozy exciting camping adventure, and marks the first vehicle accessible campsite on the property!

Everyone would be camping everywhere. I agree!
We exist. But the energy and style steve puts into his videos is passionate knowledge. And god damn Steve. Yesterday on the trans canada trail the mosquitoes were hell by 7p.m.. How do you film the swarm and stay creatively sane?

@@christianb8228 Yeah
Some men are just so humble it makes you want to cry. Humbleness can come from good parenting or very hard experiences.
Having watched most of his videos I get the feeling a lot of it could be down to the latter.

The latter is more likely the source
It's so nice to be able to just sit down, forget about everything else, and enjoy a camping video with Steve.

If there're frogs makin' noise, I don't imagine the nights are all that bad. Seems like it's too cold for airborne bugs. Kind of ambiguous weather.

Nonya Biznes it’s the simple things in life that are the most valuable
Good comment.
Very well said
@Nonya Biznes You sound like you could use some camping. Good luck !
There is almost an innocence in getting pleasure from such simple things. I'm going to buy myself some kind of free standing fire pit tomorrow. 3 years renting this house and I never thought to do it before
Dude, I love this guy so much, everything about him makes me feel good. Steve, you are the Mr. Rogers of camping!!!

I love it when you are camping on your own land. You seem so much more relaxed and not looking over your shoulder. Plus, when you stay home we won't have to post your bail for camping in the interstate or airport parking lot :)

About 2 weeks ago this guy, Steve, popped up on my CZcams feed and for some reason I had to watch it. Maybe it is my love for camping in the middle of no where with my boys that made me do it but I have been binge watching all his videos since and cannot get enough. I love this guy!
Love camping on the acreage. So sorry you now have the time to camp ,and no Beautiful Wife to share it with. I know we are not the same, but sending love your way ❤️
I remember when you were setting this up in your back yard and Crazy Neighbor made a cameo. He pops up anywhere, anytime like a Crazy Canadian Ninja. I think I see him there in the bush. Hunkering down in Florida 🤙🏻
Thanks for the videos, Steve. Love what you are doing.

I'm just surviving cancer. Your posts make my day. You make me feel I can get through. Step 2!
Using the can lid as a spoon sums up why I love watching Steve over just about every other camping CZcamsr. Love you Steve!
I remember the first time I saw you start a fire with a propane torch. Being a bushcrafty kind of a person I was shocked, I laughed, then I ordered a torch for my bottle. Getting a fire going in rain with wet wood by any other means sucks!!!! You rock Steve.

"When she starts barkin', these boards are gonna sing." .. Best quote of my life!
The gravy story is great! Haha! Such a great lesson learned.
My dad use to take me deer hunting every fall from the time I was 10 until I left to join the air force at 18. We camped in tents and camper shells on the back of trucks and the occasionally a beat up spam can camper from the 60, so you think I would know to bring food and supplies with me. But nope, just like you, my first time camping by myself as a adult at 16 and all a brought was a two 6-packs (also minimum, drinking age was 21 where I lived), a tent and a sleeping bag. It was just starting to get dark and I put both 6 packs in the creek to get cold and the cops show up because someone ratted me and my two best friends out for buying beer. The cops are hassling us to try to get us to admit to having beer and searching my car, when my dad shows up along with my little brother (who was 12 at the time) and asks what's going on. I tell him the cops are hassling us cause someone told them we had beer, they had just finished searching my car and my buddies trucks, and found nothing. My dad ask where the cooler and the food was, and what we brought to eat. We just stared at each other blankly, my dad starts laughing and turns to the cops and says "these 3 knuckleheads cant even manage to bring something to eat, let alone remember to bring beer, I be surprised these three could find their ass with both hands." The cops laugh at us and leave, and my dad hands me $20 and tell me it is so we can go in to town and get something for dinner, but I have to watch my little brother cause he has a date that night. My dad leaves and we all hop in to my buddies truck and ride 15 miles back in to town to get burgers at the local burger joint. We finally get back to camp and were all setting around the fire, I get up an go to the creek grab the first 6 pack, hand everyone a beer, including my little brother, and say "shut up and don't tell dad!" I think that was his first beer, and don't think he really even liked it at all. but he didn't say anything or spit it out, he just toughed it out and nursed that beer for the rest of the night and tried to be cool about it. 20 years latter, My brother and I were laughing about this incident at a family reunion, and my dad asked what was so funny. I admitted we had hid the beer in the creek to get cold, just before the cops showed up, my dad laughed and said that he knew we had beer he just didn't know where and wasn't going to rat us out to the dumb ass cops and have to pay a fine for us drinking underage, and that is also why he left my brother with us, figuring that we would not drink beer with him there since he was a bit of a snitch back then.
That is a great story!
Great story Shad Van, though I thought you were about to tell us that when you guys got back from the chow run you found your dad enjoying your chilled beers in front of the campfire. During their teen years, a lot of guys don't give their fathers credit for being as smart as they actually are.
@Tony Lopez it was a good story, no issue with the length
@Tony Lopez I am curious Tony, were you able to identify that insect before it disappeared?
@@willong1000 after my parents divorced, my brother and I ended up living with my dad. it was rough for him because we were both delinquents and he work a lot of hours to make sure we had a roof over our heads and food in our bellies. I didn't give him enough credit back then, mainly because I was a punk kid and thought I knew everything. He was smart enough to let me learn by the school of hard knocks, but always kept an eye on me to make sure I didn't go to far off the rails. Now that you mention it, it would not have surprised me to find my dad back at the camp drinking my beer, But he had a date that night, which in itself was unusual for my dad. he didn't date a lot during the 5 years I lived with him and did not get remarried until my brother was a senior in high school.

Those pie irons are one of the greatest food prep camping accessories ever invented. So long as you have bread and cheese, you can feed yourself a hot meal. Bring a small can of any kind of canned meat and BBQ sauce, and you can have a fantastic BBQ meal. A little canned pie filling, and you've got desert. Of course, some beer to wash it all down, just makes camping perfect.

When I was 14 we were stealth camping on an island in the middle of the Atha B in Jasper. All we had was beer, and rice to eat. We cooked the rice in beer and spiced it up with some salt and pepper packets we liberated from a KFC. Was an intetesting meal. Your gravy story reminded me of it😉
Hey, you can do a lot with rice! And I often use beer in place of wine when making risottos, if I'm using a more delicate cheese than parmesan/pecorino. :-) When I was 17, I went to a Halloween party where we were all shipwrecked by 9pm. Then we decided to carve pumpkins. Then we were all hungry, & so decided to make pumpkin soup with all the flesh we'd carved out from the pumpkins. But because we were drunk + lazy, we decided to just pulse-blend the seeds in, rather than bother picking them all out. That was a memorable meal, hahaha. X-D
What is it about drunkeness hunger induced culinary cockups that makes them some of the most fun stories?
Some of my best days were spent camping in the rain! Great video this brought me back to better times! Thanks.
You can't beat a good camp fire Steve. Cheers from England.
Your swamp reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail: “Listen, lad. I built this kingdom up from nothing. When I started here, all there was was swamp. Other kings said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show 'em. It sank into the swamp. So, I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So, I built a third one. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp, but the fourth one... stayed up! And that's what you're gonna get, lad: the strongest castle in these islands.” 🙂
