Being from the U.S. I’m usually for our sprinters except Carl Lewis, Maurice Greene and Noah Lyles. I don’t like the show offs and the bluster. It’s why I didn’t mind Trayvon Brommell, Tyson Gay and Gatlin was ok as he redeemed himself after being popped. I’m pulling for Kishane Thompson as right now he seems to be the only one that can pull off a 9.6 as he pulled up at the Jamaican Championships and still was 9.77

From Budapest till now: - Budapest: 1st - Eugene: 2nd to Coleman - Jamaica: 2nd to Seville - Trials: 1st He's not so great (very good regardless) in the 100m, hype it what makes people think Lyles above everybody else, though. If he loses, not a big deal. If he wins, it wouldn't shock me, though I would be surprised, as KT seems to be one step ahead.
They have made plenty of documentaries about historic track and field athletes and Olympics but people (i assume including you) don’t watch them. I love the sport of track and field I have studied athletes of the past and watched old Olympic and pan American games and could do it all day but the last thing I’m going to do is be upset that a new documentary made in the USA chose to film a series about athletes from the USA then include some other rivals of the USA athletes from other countries to try and create some since of conflict to make the show interesting. Let’s be clear the 2023 season was dominated by USA. So of course the show would be edited around them. Do you think they didn’t get more footage of the other athletes on the off chance they won? Of course they did but Noah and Sha’Carri won the titles so that extra footage of the losers got left on the cutting room floor. Gabby failed to beat Sherlock’s in the less popular 200 so she missed out on being the lead girl also. I’m surprised it wasn’t the Sydney show but maybe Netflix finds her as boring as I do.
Lyles is not gonna beat Thompson or Omanyala in the 100 unless they choke. But that’s a distinct possibility because of the pressure, the climate, the food, the water, the French. Lyles thrives on pressure. Lyles is probably good for the 200 unless Tebogo has a massive PB up his sleeve. But everything you’ve pointed out about career is also why Lyles is building up such a strong self-produced social media and traditional media presence. He’s building up as much of an outside of track profile as he can.

As of right now, Lyles' overall numbers are not adding up for victory in the 100m. I will grant him the 200m, and he's gonna have to earn it the hard way. I don't think that the 200m is quite a given this time around.
I mean he ran a 10.0 as barely qualified at the trials last year, and this year won win 9.83, so he’s looking ready to go under 9.8. I’d put Kishane as the favorite, but we know Noah can run rounds at international competitions, whereas Kishane hasn’t done that yet so it could be close. Same for 200M in 2022 he ran 19.68 then at the world championships ran 19.31, unless someone is ready to under 19.4 with Noah he’s not losing the 200

We saw last year that PRing in the 100 with 9.83 meant that he was only able to run 19.5 in the 2 despite having run 19.4 before worlds, simply because his body was fatigued with rounds. Honestly I think the men’s 100 is going to be very hard to pick. We know the favorites, but in an Olympic year we don’t know where everyone’s final form will be. Then we have 6 or 7, or more, guys who have run between 9.77 and 9.88. There has to be a few sleeper athletes who do surprisingly well. Then you have guys like Leslie who have high ceilings. You have to take in consideration Kishane has not won a World Championship before. You have to also consider the weather in Paris. We have our favorites, but it’s still gonna be a crap shoot.

Jacobs he is trying hard to collect all his chances to reach the 100m final in his best shape (even at the cost of losing media value), after Tokyo he faced countless injuries one after the other which hindered his reputation. Anyway, I'm confident Lyles will get a gold medal in the 200m, about the 100m the situation is not very clear to me : Kishane WL doesn't mean anything as he's not used to big stages, Omanyala has the bad habit of choking, Seville disappears the same way. Personally, I would watch out for Kerley, Jacobs, Lyles and Simbine : they have much more experience in the Olympics, they have shown consistent build up and are hungry for medals.

The first episode lost me when Michael Johnson became as dumb as the average person who has never seen track in their life by saying "Bolt never had a good start".....even though the records constantly referred to, were run with the then fastest first 30m in the world. And yeah Noah hasn't improved his 100m really in five years. He randomly ran 9.86 at a one off meet a looong time ago so im never sure why everyone thinks he's materially improving. He's very consistent but he's not actually improving.
