  • China is a 1943 film directed by John Farrow and starring Loretta Young, Alan Ladd and William Bendix. Ladd's character David Llewellyn Jones, wearing a fedora, a leather jacket, khakis and a beard stubble, was an inspiration for Indiana Jones. Aside from Tala Birell as one of Jones' paramours at the beginning of the film, the entire supporting cast is Asian, including Philip Ahn and Richard Loo.
    Plot
    A war profiteer (Alan Ladd) and his buddy (William Bendix) protect a U.S. teacher (Loretta Young), her Chinese schoolgirls and a baby from the Japanese.

      Agreed, and it was outstanding, literally, how they propped up Ladd on boxes and ramps to do the scenes and appear to be on par with other actors in height when he was actually a midget.

    • @larrywhited3070
      @larrywhited3070 Před 12 dny +1

      @@Franklin-pc3xd There are slightly different reports concerning Ladd's true height, but the most common numbers presented are 5 ft 6 in and 5 ft 7 in. Short, yes, but not all that unusual especially for some nationalities. Consider that Audie Murphy--the most decorated WW2 soldier--was 5 ft 5 in. Neither man was a midget.
      Edit: For general information, I should add that the word "midget" is now considered a derogatory term, about on par with calling every overweight person fat.

    • @Franklin-pc3xd
      @Franklin-pc3xd Před 12 dny

      @@larrywhited3070 As those terms should be derogatory, since it is one's intention to ridicule heavy people and short people when we call them fat and/or midgets or pip squeaks. This is the entire problem today; the meanings and usage of words are all conflated with nonsensical, juvenile emotions. A fat slob is just a flat slob - it is what it is. Alan Ladd was definitely a pip squeak - by any measure. There, is that better than midget?

    Alan Ladd’s character here, David Llewelyn Jones’s outfit worn for this role, the fedora, leather jacket, khakis, and chin stubble was the inspiration for personal dress in the Indiana Jones movies. Also this movie was shot around the mountains and passes of Phoenix, Arizona when the population was only around 65,000. Aside from that this was a pretty good movie.

    For being produced in 1943 this film has surprisingly good special effects. I found the best to be at the following minutes: 2:30 , 21:45 , 39:40 , and 1:18:00 . (You can click on these entries for direct access, but I would watch the full movie first.) Better than these for me though was the very well presented and rock-solid spiritual message at minute 48:30 that was not "churchianity" but was true Christianity. This followed the brutal and vile treatment of a young Chinese woman, She had truly needed to hear the gospel as this became her only hope for eternal peace.

    It strikes me that “Mr Jones” would change his tune very quickly when the Japanese attacked the USA 🇺🇸, even a character as ruthless as him would not do business with the enemy, maybe not because he didn’t want to but because if he was aiding the enemy he would probably have ended up in front of a wall with a blindfold on.
    Putting aside that this is a film I have to say that what did “Mr Jones” expect @ 12:35+, driving like he owned the roads and thinking that the fleeing Chinese refugees would “get out the way”, the Chinese had every right to attack him and his friend, they would have been scared, hungry, wet and demoralised, the perfect recipe for backlash. I don’t know if the film has any basis in reality but I think that some Americans, then and now, think that being the leaders of the free world and the strongest military forces gives them the right to behave as though they owned the country that they were/are in, and unfortunately they get/got away with it, especially during war, which there has and is happening now, some Americans need to remember that they are guests in most countries they are in and are not superior to anyone else.
    I know that my comments/opinions might upset some people but they are just my opinions, I can’t help but wonder what would have happened if the USA 🇺🇸 had not been so isolationist before the Japanese 🇯🇵 attack on Pearl Harbour brought them into WWII, perhaps if they had been more willing to engage the Japanese and other Axis nations in 1939 instead of 1941 (realistically it was 1942-1943) the whole war might have been shortened and perhaps the atrocities committed by the Japanese and axis nations would not have been so extreme, but unfortunately they had to do what the American public opinion dictated, and maybe the Americans were right to wait, it did give them the breathing space to build up the military and industrial complex and help those countries, that were still in the fight, from going under because of the lack of everything, it is definitely a question that I’m glad we will never have an answer to, otherwise we might get an answer we don’t like.

      We are only covered BY HIS GRACE, for our past sins, if we willfully sin after YESUAH cleans us, We are dirty again, and we have chose to be lost instead of saved,
      and not under his blood, for choosing to sin willfully, when we know something is sin and choose to sin any way, WE are choosing to be lost' and without YESUAH,
      we haft to go back to YESUAH, and get the blood applied again to that sin we committed after we have been cleaned, and get the blood applied for sins we commit after YESUAH cleans US, the Bible tells us that it is our past sins that he cleanses us of, To continue in sin, is not repenting, and YESUAH says unless ye repent, ye
