  • The 2019 Toyota 4Runner doesn't see much in the way of change for this model year. On many levels we see that as a good thing, on other not so much. Kelley Blue Book's Lyn Woodward walks you through what's great and what could use a update.

    I own a 2019 limited. Other that the gas mileage it puts out, I am content with my purchase. I recently took a 1200 mile road trip and averaged about 380 miles a tank. The beautiful thing about this truck is knowing I am good for the next 10+ years without having to worry about major mechanical issues.
    In today's world, some of us are way too caught up with things we don't really need in a car. Just pay attention when you drive and stop paying extra for those features. As for me, I don't need apple car play or android to listen to music. However, if that's your thing, I understand.
    If you have the money and MUST HAVE the latest in tech, you'll probably not looking at a 4Runner anyway. However, in 3-4 years when it's time for you to start pumping money into whatever other SUV you chose, you'll probably wish you did.

    I prefer the simplicity of the 4Runner’s low tech. I don’t want my 4Runner to need software updates or become obsolete as fast as my phone does. If you check your blind spots, stay awake while driving...this will get you there just as safely as anything else.

    I made a dumb mistake of traded my 2005 4Runner for a BMW 528. It was a SR5 V8 with Permanent 4WD. My wife complained the bounciness and rough ride. It had manual seat, and no backup camera. That’s why I miss it. It’s an old fashion truck with back seat, and no comfort feature. It’s exactly what I need for an off road toy.

I get a little jealous when I see overseas Toyota 4X4s with the manual option and I wish Toyota had not made such a mess of the FJ's ergonomics. The FJ would have been a simpler and cheaper long -term option in our 4x4 market if drivers could actually see out of it.

    If they do redesign the 4Runner with a turbo 4, expect purists to recoil. Nothing beats low end torque off road and that's something you lose when engines get smaller and depend on revs/boost for torque. Also, nice to see that the limited trim front fascia ditches the facial scars and brings the front styling back to 2010-2013, which I favored over the current gen.

    Nice review! In my opinion, despite the 4Runners age, I think it's interior looks great. Its good that at least one vehicle sold right now is more strate forward. Some people don't need all the Bells and Wistals. Especially for a rugged, off roading vehicle, It's more meant for doing off roading and stuff like that.

    There's no way the limited has the same approach angle as the other trims. Look at how much lower that front fascia goes.

    Toyota needs to take some risks and redesign the 4Runner, the car looks exactly the same as previous models, if I put a 2013 model next to this one, there wouldn't be much difference.

      Cuz the current one is a face lift not a redesign. Rumor has it, 2021, Tundra and 4Runner.

    Who cares if there are hard plastics? You know what hard plastics aren't going to do? They're not going to wear out as quickly in the sun as the padded stuff. They're also easier to clean. Why does everything have to be padded and soft touch? It's not going to help when you bang your head against it.

      Nagato is better than Punk Naruto I’m in the same boat. I’ve got two vehicles: a 2000 Chevy 1500 with no padded nothing and a 2003 Acura TL-S with padded everything. Guess which one is holding up better.

    • @b.strong9347
      @b.strong9347 Před 5 lety

      Nagato is better than Punk Naruto I love KBB, but with the rise of CZcams reviews, I’m starting to think that these reviewers (quite possibly unbeknownst to them) have become major influencers not only within the market, but also directly to the manufacturers. Viewers often now start their car searches with research/CZcams. If the reviewers knock a vehicle, that’s a strike in the eye of the consumers. Reviewers are also not “the working man” in that they don’t use their (test) trucks as a utility/tool like many people do. So, they knock trucks for being to truck-like? It rides like a truck... no soft touches... big, bulbous knobs... That’s what I expect from a truck. A truck does not need tech to back a trailer for me. If you need that, you shouldn’t be driving a trailer. These new gimmicky tailgates... the reviewers are eating them up. All I see is a future problem. There’s a long list of things where I think reviewers have turned the market for trucks and SUVs and a not so good direction.

    It's ridiculously expensive because there's a huge demand for them. Toyota isn't going to fiddle too much with a cash cow that has an evergrowing fan and customer base.
