The dates are a guide, and people throw out so much food because they are rigid about those dates. Just use those senses (sniff, look)! I grew up before households had refrigeration, and meat came wrapped in paper. No plastic back then.
As a chef your chindian stir fry, curry mashup is definitely aimed at the culinary challenged. Having said that it looked perfectly tasty and isn’t that what matters. Keep up the good work 👍
Really entertaining cos it's so spot on as to how things really are in kitchens up and down the country, like putting the pan on with oil in it after forgetting to rub the spices into the meat, late dash to put the onions in... we've all done it! lol - just a tip, always have some of them garlic granules in so if you suddenly find you're out of garlic, or your garlic has sprouted/gone off, you can cheat by sprinkling some of them on. That curry looked delicious. 😋Next time you're thinking of doing one, give us the heads up, I'm only an hours drive away! 😂🤣😂
Don't know why anyone would unsubscribe... It's great to watch a food channel that cooks normal stuff from a supermarket, not expensive stuff that people don't necessarily have access to or can afford. Keep up the good work. I do exactly the same as you, bit of water in the jars of curries, pasta sauce etc.
That looks delicious! I think I’m going to try that jar of madras even if it does play my hiatus hernia up! I miss a lovely curry! It’s made me yearn for one !
15:25 Lovely meal Gareth. It's a treat to see you cooking. I'm sure there'll come a day when we see you make a loaf of bread to surprise your wife. I'm sure you can do it if you look at other videos. Anyway, I'm not a meat eater but I'm going to buy some madras curry sauce and naan bread tomorrow and have it with home made chips for tomorrow's tea. Hope you and the family are keeping well. Bye for now 😁
Good sauces those are from Lidl. I think the Madras is the best one but the others are very good. i sometimes put a teaspoon of naga sauce in to get it extra hot when I fancy a hot curry. The Naans they do which are normally at the bottom of that section in my store are also good. Taste of India ones. I put them under the tap to get them quite wet, then put in the air fryer for 4 mins . They come out hot but also nice and soft. Peshwari is my favorite.
Just had to order a Bacon, Egg and Sausage Triple Decker Roll with Chips today for Lunch from Just Eat after seeing your great Layby Snack Van video. Lovely grub. Really enjoyed it. Thanks for the suggestion.
those curry sauces are delicious we have them in australia, you need a rice cooker my man, perfect rice every time, a little tip, 2 tablespoons of oil on the raw meat with 1 tablespoon bi carb soda 1 tablespoon cornstarch 1 egg white, mix very well fridge it, marinate for an hour before cooking - meat will be so tender you can break it with you're tongue, good video pal.
Would never use a bottled curry sauce ! When you put a bit of effort in and use fresh ingredients and spices , it’s a different level !! But places like uk Australia etc , where your used to eating frozen foods etc this is counted as cooking 😂 But recommend you to try making fresh !
It is and works on all quisines but I would be using a teaspoon amount. Small issue is sometimes people can taste the bicarb if you do a marinade, however, only had this a couple of times. A stew for example, I would add a teaspoon of bicarb to the meat, mix with a splash of water and put in the fridge for 30 mins, then take out and wash off. The bicarb has done the tenderizing as seen by the change in the colour of the meat, more pink.
Those sauce are good! We've tried the Vindaloo in that range and it's lovely but hot - needed some raita to cool it down! Yours looked great! Love Madras too. Thanks, Gareth!
More videos like this please. Much better than yet another McDonald’s review. Will check out the curry from Lidl. I was in there my local one last week and saw they had frozen snails in garlic butter. I’m hoping for a review before I try. Keep up the good work
@Paxanglorum I just tried the balti version from Asda - loved it, I'll probably buy them online if they get un-stocked by Asda. The closest thing to restaurant standard I've come across.
I'm crap at doing this sort of thing without watching the process, so now I've seen it done I will give it go because that's beef madras does look really good!
Hi Gareth another comment before I get into your video !! I regularly have a mixed fruit salad with my home brew yoghurt for my lunch , and enjoy it. ( Nice and healthy !!) Today for something different, I had chopped yellow mango, beetroot ( a sweet beet ) and pineapple. Could have had papaya from the garden as well but my bowl was full. I squirted SALAD CREAM on top ( sometimes do with other fruit. ) and enjoyed it. As they say, don't knock it until you try it !! Beetroot was local, nearly finished from one of my wifes marketeer friends. Day temps are going up now so root veg take a hit. We are at present HAVING to fill one of our ponds up by pump from the irrigation channel. Takes a while the pond is 3 metres deep plus new banking. Keep up the good work, please, they are always entertaining and educating ! Keep well, all our best wishes to you and yours ! Don, Phannee and the boys.
@@BaldFoodieGuy my only cooking tip would be to microwave the mushrooms 4 minutes before adding, to draw out the water, especially if adding towards the end of cooking (or if you forget to add them until too late 😳)
Well done you! Making a fab beef curry Gareth, it looked delish😋. Yes i always splash water over my naan breads then add garlic puree from a tube as its easy to spread and mix with butter and add a bit of fresh chopped coriander to it. Hubby enjoyed that vid so much he now fancies a curry instead of his dinner😂. He's subscribed now though😉..he's Ex Army too so you'll probably be bombarded with banter😆. Thanks for another great video x
As other people have said your not dining alone, I’ve had to stop watching your videos after I’ve already eaten, I only watch them now while I’m eating 🍽️ 😂😊
Hi Gareth, nice one again, splash guards, eBay 2x Prima splatter guards,9.89, we use them, a round knob handle on top, better than extended handle which can get in the way👍
Those naan's are great, my preferred choice from a supermarket. Best home made curry I have found is the Pataks madras paste pots (the Pataks in a jar are not good any more). You have to add your own tinned chopped tomato/onion/garlic, but they are bloody lovely, especially if you puree the tomatoes in a blender first. For best results make the sauce then add the already cooked meat of your choice, then cover with foil and put the saucepan in fridge overnight. Reheat (obviously) and it just comes out so succulent and flavourful.
I do wanna see more of these cooking videos I’m loving them also Gaz do try Potts Curry paste it’s actually a much fresher version than the traditional one
Well you did that well,I’m not a lover of curries ,I make for the family but my tastebuds only extend to a we bit of mayflower. That looked very good👏👏well done ❤
good video gaz, I tend to get the slow cooker out for beef curry and there's loads of cuts that slow cook well, like shin, chuck, even sirloin, batch it up and freeze, works out about 2 quid a portion
Certainly looked very tasty I have had the sauce jars before they are very good and a few chips is always better than the boiled rice. Oh apparently the Cathedral City cheesy Heinz beans are now in Tesco I know you can't wait to review them.
Very Nice Gareth, I have taken to cutting up Pineapple or Grilling a Banana until it goes soft , the sweet fruit is nice with the Curry also with a fry.
iv bought a similar kit from aldi that im going to put in the slow cooker , i normally use pataks madras paste its just right for me on the heat side. i also do with my limited cooking skills one pan pork steaks with garlic and ginger gravy , other spices can be added , used or removed :- 1.fry the steaks off and place to one side. 2. fry onions and mushrooms until they start to colour. 3. add garlic and ginger to the shrooms and onions. 4. when you smell the garlic add in stock of your choice. 5. put the pork steaks back in. 6. simmer for 10 mins. 7. plate up and with any veg you want. you can add flour / corn starch to make the gravy as thick as you want.

I've quite enjoyed the cooking ones
A tip for hard butter, use a grater and it will spread easily.
"should have been eaten yesterday, but it will be fine". If we all used your proper food assessment, no one should be hungry. Love your videos mate.

If you sprinkle water either side of the nann then put it straight on the rack in the oven for 12 mins they go lovely and soft and they don't dry out
Yes I did mate

bi carb marinating for the meat sounds like the velveting technique often used in chinese cuisine.
Surely you don't need a whole tbsp of bicarb soda?
It is and works on all quisines but I would be using a teaspoon amount. Small issue is sometimes people can taste the bicarb if you do a marinade, however, only had this a couple of times. kohinoor butter chicken curry sauce, from Morrisons is great. Made in India and no acidity regulator in it, just natural herbs and spices.
There's only enough for one in those sachets though. 2 sachets are just about enough for 3. It turns out too expensive.
I’ll make a note of that, thanks
@@DLC-sy7pp yeah it is pretty expensive, but I only buy for one. They are much nicer than the standard jars tho.

@Paxanglorum £1.95 on Ocado for the chicken Karahi. Just looked.
I use Paraks, the factory is near me in Leigh, Lancashire.
Looked good that Gaz 👌🏼
Onions first though 😂

I learnt years ago and many would agree the base of a good curry is fry onions and garlic first, until soft.
Nice curry from Lidl, I’ve had the tikka one it’s lovely, I like the extra spice flavour in the lid, great value for money I think.😃😁
