This is a sweet upgrade and I'm totally doing this on my F-150. I love kits that have everything I need and this sounds like a great one!
Quick note about the GPS antenna. The guys at 4Dtech reached out to us and let us know that putting the antenna in upside down like we did (black side down, silver side up) has potential to cause GPS tracking issues. We haven't had any, and they said if that's the case then awesome, we should just leave it, but we wanted to mention to you guys that when you're putting yours in, if you have any GPS tracking issues after install, try flipping that antenna so its black side up, silver side down. If you've got any questions, ask them here or reach out to 4Dtech directly; those guys are awesome and super responsive!

Man, you aren’t kidding on reinstalling the airbag. I’ve spent about an hour trying to get those bolts back in and have been unsuccessful! Very frustrating!

Hi love the video I will be doing this to my 2013 F150 soon and just FYI mine is the regular F-150 with the center console not a Raptor and mine has the USB plugs inside the center console like yours.

This is the exact same kit that you can get on Amazon or eBay for under half the price!! But great video you have posted. Also for your 2 side dash trim piece’s. If you ever have to get them off you will need to slide the center console back which isn’t very hard at all just quite a few bolt’s. By the way i love your truck. I have a 2013 Ford F-150 FX4

Awesome video. Just finished this on my 2013 Raptor after following this video step by step. Thanks guys!!! I was able to get around the issues of the molding by simply yanking and pulling (carefully!) on the top vents to where they popped out enough where I could get to the two top screws. Also, I noticed that despite providing my VIN, the Raptor logo does not come up when I turn the system on. I bought my SYNC3 update kit from a different vendor, but curious if anyone else had this issue? Maybe it’s an unavoidable thing with the upgrade?
So glad it helped! Its been our experience that none of the cheaper versions show the Raptor logo, even with the VIN provided. The 4DTech system does show the Raptor. If anyone has one of the Chinese systems and does have the Raptor logo, please let everyone know by posting here! And great info on the vents, thanks for sharing for other viewers!
So, after my last post, I reached out to the Chinese eBay seller who sold me the kit and asked if it was possible to get the Raptor logo installed since the kit did come with an OBD connector. He responded and asked me to download FORScan and TeamViewer. Logged in today and he remotely was able to install it into my truck. Pretty impressed. It looks awesome. I have also reached out to him to ask if he would be interested in sending you guys a unit for a review on CZcams. Thus far the system has been working well. Couple of minor glitches after unplugging the device but 99% of the time, it works well. I’ll report back again after a few months of use but thought I would at least put this out there.

Having gone from a 2018 F150 STX w/SYNC 3 to a 2014 F150 King Ranch with SYNC 2 I prefer SYNC 2. I've never had drops and font have SYNC 3 calling people not on my contacts list. I'll admit SYNC 3 with Android auto for nav is the only improvement, but that's it. I prefer tye set up of SYNC 2 over 3
There is for sure a case to be made that sometimes simpler is better. For us, the extra features of the SYNC 3 were worth it but we're sure there are plenty of folks like you that enjoy the benefits of the 2 without the issues sometimes experienced with the 3. The nice thing is this setup offers and upgrade path for those who would prefer the 3 over the 2 so everyone can have what they like. Thanks so much for commenting!
Question you might know! I have a 13 platinum, I was gonna buy a sync 2 to sync 3 kit, but the platinums have ambient lighting. Do you know if the kit will allow me to change the colors like sync 2 does? It’s ok if your unsure.

I have a 2014 Lariat F150, The heated and cooled seats controls are digital on the sync 2 in the climate section, does this upgrade have those settings as well so I can use the seat heating/cooling functions?
Hey John thanks for the question! Yes, the 4D system retains all factory functions, including the headed/cooled seats, *except* for the front camera. However, we're working with another company and should have an incredibly sweet fix for the front camera coming soon, so stayed tuned for that. In the meantime, yes, your seats will work great! The only thing that doesn't work is the front camera. However, we're currently working with another company to not only get the camera back, but to also upgrade the camera functionality so it can be used any time you want with the press of one of the aux switches. How does this work with the heated seats and ventilated seats?
4Dtech says all factory functionality is retained so your heated and ventilated seats will still work. We can confirm ours work just fine after the upgrade. Thanks for the comment!
Do you lose the video in feature that sync 2 has?
You do not. The assembly we were putting in during the second half of the video, in the center console, is the input area for Raptors. If you have a regular F150, it'll be under the climate controls (where the Raptor has it aux switches). So you still have video in. Thanks so much for commenting!
Do you have a link for a head unit to a 2011 ford raptor where it has apple car play/android auto without losing all the climate controls?
Unfortunately 4D Tech's systems for the Raptor/F-150 only go back to 2013. We're hoping 4D Tech will come out with a system that does pre-2013 Raptors, and we'll let you guys know if they do. Thanks for commenting!
Any updates?
I just did the sync 2 to sync 3 upgrade. Everything seams to be working but on start up I get a "Navigation Fault" on the screen, I can close the fault and everything appears to be working. Anyone else had this problem?
We reached out to 4D Tech and this is what they had to say: Depends on where he purchased it.
#1 GPS antenna not connected
#2 Harness not fully seated
#3 Programmed incorrectly.
#1 is the most common reason.

Go to bassle settings..then yo general there is a option for nav anntina reset.. do that it will he okay

We know its taking a while but we are making sure it is a 100% correct, awesome fix that you guys will love, and its involving some new product development with the company we're working with. Will the front camera still be operable?
Yes, this system retains all factory functionality. However, the way the factory front camera works is dumb and we don't like all the hoops you have to go through to get it to come on. We're working with another aftermarket manufacturer to enable the front camera with the push of a button! So stay tuned cause we're finalizing the product and should have a version to put in the truck soon (taking soooooo long with all that's going on in the world but we're still working on it). Will this kit work on a 2012 Ford Raptor?
Unfortunately they don't have anything yet for 2010-2012, but we keep letting them know that tons of viewers are asking for it, so they may get one. We'll post if they do!

According to 4Dtech's website, this only goes back as far as the 2013 but we'll ask them if there's any way to make it work for the 2010, and we'll post back here!

So 4Dtech got right back to us, those guys have great customer service, but unfortunately they had bad news. "We do not offer anything for the 2012 and down trucks. The supporting infrastructure is VERY different and therefore not natively able to support SYNC 2 or SYNC 3. Thanks for asking!" When we were doing our initial research into this, we found this thread at F150 forums. I did one of these and the sync 3 system won’t fully power down. Still trying to get it solved.
Did you find a solution? Could be great info id anyone else is having that issue.
@@MotorsandMischief I did. Intelligent tech sent an older sync 3 unit out and it worked flawlessly. It’s apparently a compatibility issue with the new apims and the older trucks.
I want to do this but it won’t retain function of the forward facing camera 😕
Yeah that part sucks, we agree. The whole front camera setup kinda sucks tho, since Ford won't let you use it unless you're in 4 wheel low, locker engaged and maybe even some other stuff. It would be great for parking and maneuvering if you could just flip it on whenever you wanted. We feel like the upgraded benefits of the SYNC 3 are worth the few times the front camera would have come in handy with all of Ford's caveats, but we understand some people aren't going to feel the same way. We're working on a way to use the front camera with an independent screen so it could be on whenever you needed it. We're not sure how that will work but we'll post a video if we figure it out. @@MotorsandMischief I have the NavTv module hooked up right now to my sync 2 so I’m able to turn on the front or rear camera whenever I want which does come in handy. Just not sure if it is worth not upgrading. Will have to think about it I guess.

Yeah for sure, thanks for asking! So you're probably familiar with going on Amazon and seeing literally the same product 40 times from 40 different sellers, and that's what you're seeing with the $600 Sync upgrades on Amazon. We haven't seen any on Amazon (could be wrong but we having found them) that aren't Chinese knock-offs. Most of the knock-offs are not well built, but are designed to be as cheap as possible. So the kit that I bought on eBay is a $600 kit from China. They too offer a one-year warranty. All the logos on the back of the unit says Ford so it appears to be a Ford unit. I guess time will tell as far as it standing up to the test of time. Agree that it would be good to see a review on one of the less expensive ones like mine. I was all prepared to go to 4D tech as well but as soon as I saw the price it just made it unaffordable, even with the discount.
Hey no worries at all! We sure understand the value of a dollar and if something's unaffordable, it's unaffordable. Besides, even when something is affordable you have to think if you spend x on a pricey performance part, would the money be better spent or two cheaper performance parts? Its an age old question. Right?! We totally agree. One of our viewers found a Chinese knockoff and used that instead, with pretty good results. We reached out to the manufacturer to try to get a unit to do a comparison but they turned us down. But if you want to search through the comments, there's info on the Chinese unit. Also, whether its worth $1800 is in direct proportion to how much you despise the SYNC 2 system lol
