    Just bought a really nice 2014 Ruby Red Limited Edition last Thursday that has about $11k in RPG stage 3 suspension mods, 3-inch lift, and 37in Maxxis Razr's on black Method wheels. I was able to use your video, not only as a sweet upgrade to the Raptor (completed yesterday and it really tied things together as a black and red package without those ORANGE REFLECTORS), but also as a teaching moment for my 3 teenage kids: "Slow Down to Speed Up"
    After watching your video and using the links I didn't even have to look at the directions or shop for the products! Essentially, my message to the kids: if I had not found your post, I would have tried to figure this out myself after purchasing the products and it would have taken probably 3-4 hours to disassemble the mirrors and actually use the directions.
    So by scouring the web to find cool upgrades which took some amount of time, we were able to use your video post and do the install in about 45 mins; and that includes a trip to O'Reilly's to get wire connectors and wire. Still wondering why the driver side wire was so much shorter than the passenger side....? Anyway, thanks for the post and keep it up!
    I see your question / comment below about a heated steering wheel! This is my first vehicle in about 10 years that does not have one and I didn't realize how freaking much I used it / liked it until not having one - so good luck getting us an answer!
    PS - someone can and probably will shoot holes in my message to the kids, but I'm trying to teach them all the positive benefits of internet research because I didn't have this luxury growing up as a kid...

      This is an awesome post, and thanks for taking the time to make it! So glad this video helped you, and we think life is all about teachable moments. That's why you need to be present so that you can seize them when they come along. So good for you for not only making the effort but for recognizing the moment. Kids won't pay attention to everything you have to teach, at least mine sure don't, but they will pay attention to *some* of what you have to teach, so good job. On the heated steering wheel, we are bound and determined to find a fix!! We've narrowed down that the newer one's have it, but that's not likely to provide an upgrade path for the Gen 1s, but we think we've found some Platinum editions the same year as the Gen 1s did have heated steering wheels. Stay tuned, you know we'll have an awesome video as soon as we figure it out!

    Hey guys. Love the Raptor series! My 14 Raptor just went digitized over the weekend following y'all's video and I love it. I found a tailgate light bar with sequential signals that I installed at the same time and it looks killer with the mirror and bar signals all in sequential sequence. It's the OPT7 60" Redline light bar. Found it on Amazon for $106.00 with 4.5 stars and over 5k reviews.

    I just did this exact retro on my '14 Raptor. Your video inspired me to do it. After about 3 weeks of research I was able to figure out how to get the mirror glass out. It was a LOT easier to remove the glass than I thought. Once glass is out it's about a 15 minute job. I couldn't get the puck LED light to snap in, ended up using some silicone on the inside to make sure they stayed in place. Thanks again.

    I was SO glad to see this video. I thought surely there HAS to be a way to do this without removing the mirrors! You did a good job explaining what you did and how you accomplished it. Thank you! I'm a 66 year old woman with a 2012 F150 King Ranch. I had to splice the wires on the Driver's side, but managed to get the passenger side done without having to cut any wires! I decided to do the 'hardest' (driver's) side first, but I don't think there was any more play in the passenger side... I just managed to get a little better angle and those wire are now very tight!!

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  Před 6 měsíci

      Absolutly right Maugea, that was only a reflector from the factory. We sure like it better as a blinker, though. What are your thoughts?

    do you have to buy the two different sets to have the front and the back of the mirror lights?

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  Před rokem

      There's three different products that are needed to do everything we did in the video, the LED turn signals that go on the front of the mirror and are visible from the front of the truck, the LED turn signals that go on the back of the mirror and are visible from the rear of the truck and the puddle lights. There's links to all 3 in the description. Thanks for the question!

  • @robertbooker3468
    @robertbooker3468 Před 3 lety

    I just upgrade my side mirror blinkers and puddle lights like this. The blinkers started blinking fast did you have this problem?

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  Před 3 lety +1

      We did not, however that problem is typically caused by a turn signal relay that is relying on a certain resistance in the bulbs to time the blinking. When you upgrade to LED's the resistance goes ways down and so the circuit in the replay trips faster. Not sure if your truck has a stand alone turn signal relay but if so, you can upgrade to a type that doesn't rely on resistance to pulse.

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  Před 3 lety +2

      We did! In retrospect we're not sure how that footage didn't make it into the video but we actually soldered on about 6 more inches, just to make life easier.

  • @joshharrigan4131
    @joshharrigan4131 Před 3 lety

    Just ordered mine what size wire did you use to extend it (the gauge)

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  Před 3 lety

      Excellent question... and we can't remember. The factory wires are pretty small, 16 gauge perhaps? We're pretty sure we used whatever the next size up was as we didn't have the exact same gauge, but bigger is fine. We'll try to pop out one of the lights and check it for you as soon as we get a chance.

  • @DrFoxyGaming
    @DrFoxyGaming Před 2 lety

    I want to get these. Can I just tap the front ones into the rear facing ones? Also are these removable if I want to get new mirrors?

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  Před 2 lety

      So you have to buy both the front and the year lights as listed in our description. If you do, the rear light has a pigtail for the front light to plug into - they work together. The factory doesn't have a light there, just the reflector, so you can buy just the rear, and keep the stock reflector, or do like we did and buy the rear and the front. You cannot buy just the front, as it will have no where to plug into without the rear that comes with the pigtail. Don't totally understand the second part of your question, they are removable yes, in the sense that they are not glued in or permanently mounted or anything. Thanks for commenting!

      @@MotorsandMischief so I don’t need to tap in or solder anything correct?

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  Před 2 lety +1

      Correct! We checked with Uncle Jake and he said as long as you buy both the front and rear, the new rear comes with a connector for the front, as there is nothing there from factory. One issue we had was the wires were *really* short so we did solder on about 6 inches more of length to make life easier, but Uncle Jake says this is not strictly necessary if you just work carefully with what's there.

    • @MotorsandMischief

      Interesting idea. You would have to tap a running light circuit. Most of the lights on the Raptor are computer controlled but snaking a wire down and just tapping it into the truck's existing running light setup wouldn't be hard.
