Good review but even though I love my R I totally disagree about the 3.5 Raptor. It’s an excellent power plant, it’s smooth, efficient, powerful with great torque. Yes the R is better and more bad ass but to say the regular Raptor is basically a piece of shit is just very ignorant.
Agreed. So fans of the Raptor and its styling in particular were just not supposed to buy one for the last 6 years? That’s ridiculous. He mentioned the R driving like it’s lazy until you get into it. That’s exactly where the Ecoboost shines. Twin turbskis, so no lag no matter the throttle input. I still respect his opinions though, and ignorantly agree with most of them. The “can’t afford one though” is car guy talk. I used to run my mouth like that, but then I grew up, or maybe it was my wife who set me straight haha. Whatever the case may be, I realized my family’s financial future was far more important than a vehicle, or any tangible item for that matter.
@zweifelgarage1817 ignorant comment here. Owning an R and 3.5TT, the 3.5TT is much more efficient and compliant for everyday and 99.99999% of your driving. The predator was built for the track or desert prerunning. The power curve let alone usable where it shines is completely different. The predator is annoying to daily to stay out of boost and get single digits mileage. The 3.5TT has torque down low and mid and all around and delivery is smoother.
Loved my 2018 Raptor. I put 140K on it. Triple bypass Icons, leaf spring pack and bump stops made it ride like butter and handle the bumps on trophy truck trail at Glamis like a boss. Got better gas milage too :)...Just didn't have that sick sound or acceleration of the R.

Yup. We love our 2022 37 EB. I grew up in racing/restorations and the Gen3 Raptor defies the laws of physics. No need for an R.. and it loses HP at high elevation .. over a 100 HP where we have a mountain home to be exact. Makes zero sense to pay that much more and lose 100 HP. Guy here making some serious (seriously dumb) assumptions/accusations about EB owners.. 3 of the 4 guys in my area that own EB Raptors are millionaires. All off-road them. The thought that someone doesn’t buy something because they can’t afford it is just ignorant. I’m likely to get an LOL 😂 response to that. My wife literally said go buy the biggest baddest Raptor .. we found the 37 in a color we loved and pulled the trigger. It’s been an amazing truck. No desire for a TRX.. or any Ram (well maybe a Power Wagon). If we want to go fast we’ll buy a Ferrari.

Great looking Truck I admit I can afford a Raptor but living in more of a city environment and a furniture builder who drives from Philly to NC at least once a month for deliveries or pleasure (or both) I thought about the gen2 Raptor (the R wasn't available) but couldn't justify paying 6figures for a truck. If I was desert driving or farming maybe. So here is where you will kill me and call me a f4g or l1beral shqt eater lol (which I'm not) I bought the 2023 powerboost. But I use the generator (7.2kw) in the back on jobs at least once a month or more it's faster than the ecoboost Raptor (not the R) and I get about 20mpg in the winter 23mpg in the summer If I was in my 20s still and had the money then yes I go Raptor R all day. Is your truck Avalanche? Looks awesome and sounds great too. That is the 1 thing I don't like about the v6 trucks is the sound
On all Gen two and up Raptors the door locks work perfectly you simply need to touch the button on the door handle and it takes about half a second to unlock which apparently is too long a wait for some.
Its an adaptive transmission, so it will learn your driving habits and start to respond better at about 1500 miles; however this is the drawback to that 10 speed. I have the same issue. I can be at 30 miles per hr in be in 6th gear, which is crazy. I prefer sport mode, or to get a tune that will also change the shifting points.
I was with Ford for years Fixed ops Warranty Manager multi platform dealers,,, ya those Raptors put a smile on the customers face when they buy um,,, then reality.
That is one sick truck, man! I just picked up a Roush F150 in the same color. Love it. FYI for oil gauge is for pressure not capacity. As you accelerate the pressure will increase. I'm sure a mechanic can explain in better than me. 🤙
Worked 50 hours a week at a job for 10 years all while coming home everyday to work in garage another 20-30 hours a week doing body work on the side. After 10-13 years doing side work it got over whelming opened my own body shop (one man show) and I’m always booked out 3 months steadily with no advertising. Stuff doesn’t come over night. It’s a life style of working over playing everyday
Man I heard stock toyota sound systems that sound better then ford systems. I love ford but they need to leave who ever their speaker manufacturer/tuners are, some of their older models even sound better. But with a plugnplay kit harness, a good amp, quality speakers and some sound deadenin and youtube videos, you can get your car sound better then then the new Escalades.
Don't hate on the eb owners they'd love to have the V8 obviously but the r supply is low and then the dealer mark ups on most of them. You got a good deal on yours. I see so many online for ~160k
Forgot to add.. can turn off/disable the walk up lights (we call them the hello lights) and that will help with the battery issue.. especially if you are near the truck a lot with the fob.. its drains and drains.
Just to correct some mis-information and/or generalizations, not every EcoBoost owner has an EB because they can't afford an R. Some might value better mpg over a prum prum for daily driver, some don't want to wait long months or even year(s) for a truck, some might not see the value of an R over an EB or better of an EB with 37PP, which is identical looking to an R except the different decals. .02 cents. Also, the reason one pair of the fogs came with covers and are wired to a different switch is for legal reasons. You're not allowed to "legally" drive with two sets of fog lights on so Ford got away with it by covering one set and putting them on a different switch. As a "car enthusiast" that you claimed to be, I thought you would know that. But I'm not going to make generalizations on you based on that.
Maybe watch more than one vid. Just bc I don’t know a fog light law and read brochures doesn’t mean I’m not a car enthusiast. I can built a car ground up with no ones help engine trans rear and paint and body. Not many ppl can do that most shops sub everything and slap their name on it

Typical cheap ford build quality. The Raptor is cool, but man for $110k+ you’d think you would get what you pay for. They really know how to keep drawing in ford fanboys regardless of the quality. That 10 speed has always been bad. It’s been 7 years now and it still gear hunts and clunks into shifts all awkward.

I don’t regret mine at all for 10k over. Will they drop? I’m not sure some forums say they making less than 2400 of them and if that’s true they won’t go down imo
3:35 be on lookout for Remote Features Disabled notifications. The door issue preceded them. It was (per system) a low battery but I did a Battery Sensor Module reset and have been checking voltage and it’s been good since. In fact, just came back from a ski trip and checked voltage.. was at 12.03. This is on a 2022 37.. and re: the person who said not everyone who can afford an R wants one.. I’m in that camp. We can afford any car we want.. and I have no need or desire for the R. My 37 EB runs great at over 5,200’ elevation where we have our second home in the mountains and I’m not down with sub 10 mpg. The 700 HP goes below 600 HP at that elevation.. makes no sense to pay more then lose over 100 HP.. for us.

Good stuff. I’m thinking your issue with the key has more to do with user error and not the fobs battery or something like that. I’d bet the owners manual might be able to clarify what you’re doing wrong if indeed you are. My daughters react the same way as yours did whenever I say I’m getting a new truck, haha. They get mad when I say I’m getting a new one and then say it’s dumb or something like that when I bring it home. Kids are hilarious. The big difference is my wife always sides with them lol. Trust me, every other day I consider getting a Tremor with the 5.0. I. I can’t stand the sound of my Raptor. American muscle doesn’t sound like a GTR. I get that the Ecoboost is great for running Baja, which is what it’s built to do, but we all know that most people buy the Raptor for its looks, not its capabilities, myself included. For that reason alone Ford should have always offered it with a V8, or at least made it an option. I’ll have an R one day. I don’t do markups and I’m not good at waiting either. Impulsivity sucks sometimes.

A regular raptor should be a 5.0 and than R the 5.2, imo an eco boost for 90k when the base model has same engine with a different tune for 40k is hilarious. Had 2017 Roush Supercharged F150 Stage 2 650HP which was modified to 730HP and I traded it in for 2020 Roush Raptor. Why you might ask. Because its a truck and pulls from the green light got me bored really quick.

Like you said that's a 10-speed transmission it works different from a 6-speed transmission shifting at low RPM like that cuz it's trying to save you the most gas possible
Love my 2023 EB. It's nice and all to have a V8 just not for that price. I have all the luxuries you have just not a speeding ticket lol. Plus, you mentioned it's boggy in city, easy driving. That's where the EB does well. If I sold my 2 new motorcycles and my snowmobile I'd own an R but I don't see the value

If I had windows that dark, I’d get a ticket… worse I’d have a wreck at night. Once you hit 55-60 it’s darned hard to see at night anyway. Wish someone would make a window that darkens with a flip of the switch. I love the Raptor but yes… gas mileage is terrible. I’d like to see a hybrid raptor with a 2.5kwa battery. I modified my Jeep with a RTT for camping not attention! Also been getting more compliments on my Gladiator than my old special edition Gen 1 Raptor 🤔 I guess Jeep is more popular than f150s
You are so far off on the comments about the eco-boost Raptors I had mine for three years before I got my raptor R and I’m not sure I like the R better, but I’ve only driven it 275 miles so time will tell.
I had a relatively new f150. No complaints, drove nice comfortable. Other than denting VERY easy. The fact is though these dinosaur trucks “raptor , TRX “ are truly dinosaurs. Trucks will have Instant torque , no transmissions to fail, or oil to change or fumes to suck in. Truck guys hate hearing it because they hate change, but prepare for a good spanking from electric trucks. Batteries are evolving fast and in a matter of no time your gas guzzler won’t be able to compete. My new truck will have around a thousand horsepower and around 500 miles of range with fast charging and won’t dent if I look at it too hard. That raptor will still be pretty though lol.
Is Ford Known For Having Better 4 Wheel Drive Systems By Any Chance...Kinda Leaned Chevy/GM Not Taking Any Side Completely... Like mustangs were ok but would prefer a Corvette 🤷... Good review. I also own a Raptor R, I’ve had all of the generations of the raptor. But I must say your opinion of the eco-boost is a little harsh. When I got the R, if anything, it made me appreciate the eco boost for what it is. When you’re driving around normally, the 2 trucks are very hard to tell apart, let alone $50k. 100% agree when you punch it, it’s a different world, but honestly just a party trick. Like Tesla plaid. I love my raptors, but I gotta say; the eco boost raptors I’ve owned are great also for what they are. I’m hesitant about this power plant just as I was about the eco boost, my 2018 gen2 I’ve had to change the engine. At 150k miles etc etc. But just thought I’d throw my opinion out there

The first-gen 6.2 engine is far less powerful than the second gen R 5.2.. they're two different kind of engines. 6.2 is a traditional engine (reg (crossplane) 5.2 (flat-plane crank!) It's literally the engine that's in all high-end sports cars.. And like the truck pretty cool Bud.. I wish I could afford one..
Well in terms of cool factor, the first gen Roush 6.2’s are arguably better. Sound better and everything and cost a 4-6th of the price of an R. All things considered, the first gen-specifically the 13-14’s are just better than R for the money.

@@imcrux6583 I think you may be misunderstanding what was said because in here you just put 5.0 that's not the engine that's in the raptor are you'll have to look it up and see completely different engine it's not a conventional engine like the 62 or the 5.0 engine. The engine that's in a raptor are is a (flat-plane crank )5.2 In a nutshell it would be like putting a a McLaren high-end sports car engine into a F-150 pickup with a supercharger.. you might be able to Google it to see what I'm talking about, because that's why the truck is 125k ish
@@Ira.J712 no i understand, msrp on the Raptor R is 110k, dealers make them much much higher. As stated, a change in crank plane does not justify a $150k price tag when the msrp is $110k. The Roush package 6.2L 1st gen may be older, have a different crank plane, but what Raptor owner or any performance vehicle owner actually knows about or cares about that? It’s a $150k truck thats way over-valued. It’s also a Ford, which is going to have its eventual issues pop up as most Raptors do in all 3 generations.
the only reason i dont buy a raptor is that they are all 3.5 v6, which is indeed lame. I would argue it. Put E85 tune on stock V6 Raptor, and you get 600HP Crank. Put $11,000 (with bigger turbos kit) into it, which still will be much less than Raptor R, and you get 800HP Crank.

But they’re quick and have pretty nice power delivery. I said in another comment about always tossing the idea around of getting a Tremor with the 5.0. I had a 5.0 in a rental for a few days when I had a standard F150 with an Ecoboost and the 5.0 was just s dog. You had to get into it hard to get anything out of it. It drove me nuts. Other than the sound, it was terrible compared to the Ecoboost. If only the Ecoboost could sound like a V8. Can’t have it all I suppose.

I can be at 30 miles per hr in be in 6th gear, which is crazy. I prefer sport mode, or to get a tune that will also change the shifting points.
There is a feature in the settings to turn off proximity unlock/lock. It gets very annoying. If you turn it off, your keyless entry will work better.

That is one sick truck, man! I just picked up a Roush F150 in the same color. Love it. FYI for oil gauge is for pressure not capacity. As you accelerate the pressure will increase. I'm sure a mechanic can explain in better than me. 🤙

Worked 50 hours a week at a job for 10 years all while coming home everyday to work in garage another 20-30 hours a week doing body work on the side. After 10-13 years doing side work it got over whelming opened my own body shop (one man show) and I’m always booked out 3 months steadily with no advertising. Stuff doesn’t come over night. It’s a life style of working over playing everyday
I’ve owned 7 FORDs, and I can honestly say that radios and sound systems, are not their strong areas.
That’s one thing dodge has beat them on for sure is the sound system
I don’t mind the Bose sound system and 750 W amp mine came with but I know of many manufacturers that have done it better!
Man I heard stock toyota sound systems that sound better then ford systems. I love ford but they need to leave who ever their speaker manufacturer/tuners are, some of their older models even sound better. But with a plugnplay kit harness, a good amp, quality speakers and some sound deadenin and youtube videos, you can get your car sound better then then the new Escalades.
Don't hate on the eb owners they'd love to have the V8 obviously but the r supply is low and then the dealer mark ups on most of them. You got a good deal on yours. I see so many online for ~160k

Forgot to add.. can turn off/disable the walk up lights (we call them the hello lights) and that will help with the battery issue.. especially if you are near the truck a lot with the fob.. its drains and drains.

Just to correct some mis-information and/or generalizations, not every EcoBoost owner has an EB because they can't afford an R. Some might value better mpg over a prum prum for daily driver, some don't want to wait long months or even year(s) for a truck, some might not see the value of an R over an EB or better of an EB with 37PP, which is identical looking to an R except the different decals. .02 cents.
Also, the reason one pair of the fogs came with covers and are wired to a different switch is for legal reasons. You're not allowed to "legally" drive with two sets of fog lights on so Ford got away with it by covering one set and putting them on a different switch. As a "car enthusiast" that you claimed to be, I thought you would know that. But I'm not going to make generalizations on you based on that.

Typical cheap ford build quality. The Raptor is cool, but man for $110k+ you’d think you would get what you pay for. They really know how to keep drawing in ford fanboys regardless of the quality. That 10 speed has always been bad. It’s been 7 years now and it still gear hunts and clunks into shifts all awkward.

3:35 be on lookout for Remote Features Disabled notifications. The door issue preceded them. It was (per system) a low battery but I did a Battery Sensor Module reset and have been checking voltage and it’s been good since. In fact, just came back from a ski trip and checked voltage.. was at 12.03. This is on a 2022 37..
and re: the person who said not everyone who can afford an R wants one.. I’m in that camp. We can afford any car we want.. and I have no need or desire for the R. My 37 EB runs great at over 5,200’ elevation where we have our second home in the mountains and I’m not down with sub 10 mpg. The 700 HP goes below 600 HP at that elevation.. makes no sense to pay more then lose over 100 HP.. for us.

Trust me, every other day I consider getting a Tremor with the 5.0. I. I can’t stand the sound of my Raptor. American muscle doesn’t sound like a GTR. I get that the Ecoboost is great for running Baja, which is what it’s built to do, but we all know that most people buy the Raptor for its looks, not its capabilities, myself included. For that reason alone Ford should have always offered it with a V8, or at least made it an option. I’ll have an R one day. I don’t do markups and I’m not good at waiting either. Impulsivity sucks sometimes.

Had 2017 Roush Supercharged F150 Stage 2 650HP which was modified to 730HP and I traded it in for 2020 Roush Raptor. Why you might ask. Because its a truck and pulls from the green light got me bored really quick.

Love my 2023 EB. It's nice and all to have a V8 just not for that price. I have all the luxuries you have just not a speeding ticket lol. Plus, you mentioned it's boggy in city, easy driving. That's where the EB does well. If I sold my 2 new motorcycles and my snowmobile I'd own an R but I don't see the value

You are so far off on the comments about the eco-boost Raptors I had mine for three years before I got my raptor R and I’m not sure I like the R better, but I’ve only driven it 275 miles so time will tell.
I didn’t like mine at first either.
I had a relatively new f150. No complaints, drove nice comfortable. Other than denting VERY easy.
The fact is though these dinosaur trucks “raptor , TRX “ are truly dinosaurs. Trucks will have Instant torque , no transmissions to fail, or oil to change or fumes to suck in. Truck guys hate hearing it because they hate change, but prepare for a good spanking from electric trucks. Batteries are evolving fast and in a matter of no time your gas guzzler won’t be able to compete. My new truck will have around a thousand horsepower and around 500 miles of range with fast charging and won’t dent if I look at it too hard. That raptor will still be pretty though lol.

Good review. I also own a Raptor R, I’ve had all of the generations of the raptor. But I must say your opinion of the eco-boost is a little harsh.
When I got the R, if anything, it made me appreciate the eco boost for what it is. When you’re driving around normally, the 2 trucks are very hard to tell apart, let alone $50k. 100% agree when you punch it, it’s a different world, but honestly just a party trick. Like Tesla plaid.
I love my raptors, but I gotta say; the eco boost raptors I’ve owned are great also for what they are.
I’m hesitant about this power plant just as I was about the eco boost, my 2018 gen2 I’ve had to change the engine. At 150k miles etc etc.
But just thought I’d throw my opinion out there
All I seen was “for what they are” 90% of my vehicles I own are for the sound. Has been like that since I got my license

The first-gen 6.2 engine is far less powerful than the second gen R 5.2.. they're two different kind of engines.
6.2 is a traditional engine (reg (crossplane)
5.2 (flat-plane crank!) It's literally the engine that's in all high-end sports cars..

Well in terms of cool factor, the first gen Roush 6.2’s are arguably better. Sound better and everything and cost a 4-6th of the price of an R. All things considered, the first gen-specifically the 13-14’s are just better than R for the money.

The engine that's in a raptor are is a (flat-plane crank )5.2
In a nutshell it would be like putting a a McLaren high-end sports car engine into a F-150 pickup with a supercharger.. you might be able to Google it to see what I'm talking about, because that's why the truck is 125k ish

It’s a $150k truck thats way over-valued. It’s also a Ford, which is going to have its eventual issues pop up as most Raptors do in all 3 generations.

I would argue it. Put E85 tune on stock V6 Raptor, and you get 600HP Crank. Put $11,000 (with bigger turbos kit) into it, which still will be much less than Raptor R, and you get 800HP Crank.

I had a 5.0 in a rental for a few days when I had a standard F150 with an Ecoboost and the 5.0 was just s dog. You had to get into it hard to get anything out of it. It drove me nuts. Other than the sound, it was terrible compared to the Ecoboost. If only the Ecoboost could sound like a V8. Can’t have it all I suppose.
