Okay is it just me or is the “Nuneul Ttuenda” hand gesture muscle memory at this point? I think DC’s dances are very good at toeing the line between something that looks amazing on stage and something that fans could hope to emulate, usually by having a simple but complicated looking hand gesture/arm movement to go along with the hook. I really gotta look up their choreographers because every time it’s on point.
I just relize that in nightmare series they often use the witch star sign. Then in evil series now I think it will be the devil sign.
Okay I looked it up and this choreography was by Hwang Sooyeon who was a trainee during PD101 under Happyface. Recently she returned to the company but as a choreographer this time. This is her second song working with the group, her first was for Déjà Vu.
@@darkstar2874 oh no wonder I always feels there are some moves look almost identical with the moves in deja vu. For example, during siyeon second verse part her legs moves after she swith with sua.
darkstar2874 sooyeon is fantastic! she is such a good dancer and choreographer, dreamcatcher is so lucky to have her with them as sooyeon now works at their company. it definitely won't be the last we see of her relating to dreamcatcher.
the dance for Scream was choreographed by Hwang Sooyeon, Kang Riye, and Kim Keeyeoun! Like you said, Hwang Sooyeon was a trainee under Happyface and is now DC's performance director, and she also choreographed Deja Vu and (more recently) their dance for Black or White. Kang Riye is the masked dancer stand-in for Handong, and all three of them are pretty well-known backup dancers for other famous artists in the industry, most recently Red Velvet at their La Rouge concert

I appreciate you putting definitions of theory terms that they use on screen. I’ve always understood them because I’m a musician, but I always see people in the comments who aren’t musicians saying that they don’t understand, but love to watch anyway. I think that it’s really cool that you made an effort to help them understand

I want Jazz Bar personally, I really want to see what they think of a mostly pop song with Jazz inspiration because I find their commentary on those “not quite X genre but definitely a homage” songs.
Sadly last time I had the CMR crew react to a “jazz inspired pop song” their commentary was mostly negative :/ Jazz bar is like...98% pop and 2% jazz, so I can only see the reactors giving criticism towards it. Bc I’m trying hard to keep our reactions on this channel mostly positive, the crew will not be reacting to Jazz Bar.

I've always had an odd obsession with this song, it's one of those songs I can never get tired of. As a musician, I always enjoy being able to hear people atriculate what I am hearing but am unable to fully explain. Great video, great song, stay safe out there!

Someone who said DC is lacking a little bit (which I agree but I think DC is still finding their own style and the sound that really screams DC so they’re still mixing things around) and maybe need more rocking/metal sound probably need to listen to Endless Night XD the only reason why DC is pulling back a little with their rock/metal sound in their songs because that genre isn’t doing much well in S. Korea. They are also trying to get more recognition in S. Korea and appeal to people who aren’t really into rock/metal songs. Their last song called Silent Night (edm) also became the favorite among the fans in which they said they’re gonna try rock with edm on their next release due to popularity of Silent Night. That’s how scream was made!
If they really want to hear a full rock one from them, their Japanese releases are the example ones, of course in their own time since the copyright issues. And also, maybe listen to their b side songs because DC is a versatile group that just don’t do rock and metal music. Black and White, Sahara and Red Sun would be a good listen to.
The thing I love about the chorus is how the choreo slows down from it's chaotic beginning when the demonic vocals start singing, it's almost like the girls get possesed. Genuinely such a good way to change the pace

3:03 I'm so glad she pointed that out. It's probably my favorite thing that happens in music, where the instrumentals follow the vocals
3:25 It's weird- obviously duplets aren't that complicated in classical music and are pretty common, but because the "base" is now pop music, it's so incredible that the songwriters put it in because it's so rare to see even that level of complexity and thus it stands out. I noticed you commented on it too on your personal Scream reaction video.
4:51 Is he talking about the build up and then the drop (especially the chord progression leading to the tonic)? It is pretty satisfying

I'm not sure if I'm the only one but this song gave me very early 2000s Evanescence vibes I love it
9:17 Yeah so the strings are a stack, it's guitar layered in underneath, but the strings FX chain looks like this: staccato string VST -> light reverb -> heavy OTT -> hard limiter -> noise gate with very quick release -> reverb. It's honestly a very cool trick, and most people who review or react to Scream think it's just a weird synth or guitars, so it's good to hear someone notice that it's actually strings.

This is one of my favorite songs of the year so far.
Before I watch the video, as an Insomnia I LOVED Scream and Dystopia: The Tree of Language as a whole. It's a really cool evolution away from the Nightmare arc, both visually and in Dreamcatcher's soundscape. You can really tell LEEZ and Ollounder had fun composing, mixing and arranging every song on the album. Scream is a really fun and dare I say epic song, despite being a tad less hard on the rock than any other DC title track. It's super touching that HappyFace had a trainee dancing in lieu of Handong, as I'm sure she'll take up the mantle as soon as she's back! I'm really excited to see the CMR reactors' views on the song, especially Gahyeon's rap as well as the choral (Sua sings it live) operatic "Scream scream scream scream" part. I feel they'll either love it or hate it. Looking forward to the reactors explaining to me exactly what it is about the musicality of the song that I love, as per usual!
I found the reactors' explanations of the subdivisions in instrumentals really informative, in my own words I would only be able to say that the chorus "hits hard" but it's cool to know that the reason it hits hard is the articulation of the triplets! As Henry pointed out, they made really good use of silences, brief as they may be. As always, this video just helped me appreciate a great song even *better*, and I'm really looking forward to see how Dreamcatcher moves forward with they Dystopia arc, if they'll move even further away from their Nightmare arc or if they'll keep peppering that heavier rock in.
Also, a note for Aaron, there may not be a whole bunch of screaming in the song, but the fanchant (the chant fans sing when Dreamcatcher perform the song live) has them scream, and I mean sCREAM at the drop in the chorus!

I just discovered DC a week ago and I love them, but what is interesting to me about this is the different personalities of the musicians here.

I like Kevin's point about dynamic contrast. This is part of why Deja Vu is my favorite Dreamcatcher song. The sheer loudness of the chorus brings the sort of "boom" I'm looking for in a metal chorus. Scream came close, but was too quiet. This is too bad, because the instrumentation during the chorus is fantastic and interesting to listen to, but it's just not loud enough. This is somewhat solved by the first half of the last chorus when they switch to synths primarily. It's just too bad that wasn't applied more consistently.
