Gamora usually kept trying to suppress her emotions with a mask of mercy and annoyance while, Neytiri does not hide her true feelings and willingly take it out much more personally by giving those who have broken her and a strong sense of punishment.

Zoe is such a phenomenal actress. Her screaming in this scene nearly brought me to tears more than Neteyam’s death itself.
The moment he said “I want to go home” is the moment Jake knew his boy wasn’t going to make it.. 😢
The saddest part is after that heroic display he showed saving his brother, sisters and friends, basically showing how much of Jake’s son he was, in these final moments telling his parents he just wanted to go home he was just their child 😢

My father had a brother who unfortunately died when he was 24. I wasn't even born, but my older sister, who was living with our grandmother at the time, told me that Grandma started to scream herself to death when she learned that her son had died in a car accident.
Many years later, my sister and I are watching Avatar 2, and when this scene arrived, she told me : "That is the exact same scream Grandma did when Uncle Victor died."
Shout out to Zoé Saldana, who embodies so accurately the pain of so many mothers.

RIP. My uncle died unexpectedly about a year ago. His brother (my father) and my grandma (their mother) acted and felt the exact way as the two actors in this scene.

I absolutely loved Zoe's acting in this. The way she freezes when Neteyam stops breathing, how she says his name softly like she can't believe it, and then gasps before she starts screaming. Wow... i got goosebumps and couldnt help but start crying too. And I don't even have kids 🥲😭

My biggest issue with the movie was that after his dying words were ‘I want to go home’, they didn’t bury him in the forest tribe’s land.

There’s a few reasons why that wouldn’t work
1. They’re far away from the Omatikaya clan
2. The RDA could’ve captured them
3. Neteyam’s body would’ve started to decompose by the time they got there

When I saw this in the movie theater, it really hit me because I know the pain of losing a brother. The strength it took to hold back the tears was awful. I got home and started crying my eyes out

Yes, they did when Quaritch was talking to Jake through Lo'ak's communicator, when he, Neytiri and Spider went back there to rescue them.And also when they gathered at the place where they left his body.
People complain jake doesn’t show much emotion in this scene , but he was a marine, you are teach to keep it cool in order to survive when a love one dies, he is , I gotta keep it cool , if I don’t I may loose another kid
His coping mechanism seems to be shutting down into that cold, military mode. Plus like, you hear it in his voice that he's *barely* containing himself when Neteyam is asking to go back to the Omaticaya. He's just putting on a brave face to keep the others safe. The man is broken and barely holding it together, and we see that when he visits Neteyam's soul at the Spirit Tree.
It's something I really appreciate, despite Jake being this skilled warrior, they let him cry, they let him have the emotion. Through the first film he doesn't really get those moments, so I'm glad it was allowed to happen here.
He had like three other children who need to be saved. He HAD to keep it together.
I feel like that's kinda Jake's response to trauma. Like, we see it time & again. First with his brother's death. Then when Neytiri rejected him after Hometree fell. And again when Grace died. I don't know if it's training or just how he copes, but I love how it keeps.. coming up, I guess, I don't know how to phrase it.

Zoe Saldana is one of the greatest actresses of our time. When she cried in this scene I could feel her anger, I could feel her heart break, I could feel sadness. The way she cried in this scene just made me as well. The way that she can just the way that she can bring her emotion through the screen and into our hearts is just amazing .
What breaks my heart the most is that he couldn't tell his father what he wanted, besides his desire to go home 😢

Everyone always talks about how the mother reacts to a sons death. Yet forget to see the pain the fathers go thru. Jake knew his son was going to die the sec he seen the damage as a Marine he knew his son would die but he cant cry like a woman can he has to be strong😢 i feel so bad for him when he tears up when they visit Neteyam later in the end.
IKR, people always say' Mother's love is the strongest one and how no one can protect like a mother' But they completely ignore what fathers feel and go through when facing utter sadness due to loss of their children. It's a common and very naive thing to do but that's how most people are.

This scene rips me to shreds, because it's very similar to how I reacted when someone I loved very much died too. I used to have an adorable gosling, whose survival out of the egg was an absolute miracle. My 2 geese had kept going through repeated failed attempts with eggs for years, and, unlike the others before him, this was the first and only gosling that not only made it through the hatching process, but also managed to live life for a brief period afterwards. He was so adorable and precious to me. He was completely fine and lively the last time I checked on him, but when I went down the next time to check on him, I discovered his dead body lying there. And at that exact moment, the way I reacted was VERY similar to how Neytiri acts here.
Neytiri's 2nd and 3rd screams starting at 0:38, combined with her horror when looking at the sight of her son's dead body, you can see the denial and shock there, that she can't believe her son has just died and what has just happened, and that's the part that hits the hardest in this vid for me, because this is just about exactly how I reacted. I didn't full-on scream like this, but it was very close to it. I just collapsed face down on the ground, and wailed and wailed at the top of my lungs, crying harder than I ever had before, and I wouldn't have even cared if the neighbours would have overheard. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing, that my beautiful gosling was gone. My 2 geese were much like Jake, more solemn, but clearly definitely as hard-hit as I was, I could see the grief in their faces. Zoe is such a flipping good actress, she perfectly portrays what the worst of grief is like in this scene, because it's realistic, I felt and experienced this same exact measure of grief myself. She should get an award for this level of acting.
Just look at how many important people they've already lost:
Jake already lost his twin brother Tom.Then Grace, and now Neteyam.
Neytiri lost his father Eytukan, his older sister Sylwanin, his ikran Seze, his mentor Grace and now his biological eldest son Neteyam.
Lo'ak has lost his home, almost forever lost his friend and adoptive older brother Spider, and now he has lost his safe haven and biological older brother Neteyam.
Kiri lost her biological mother, almost forever lost her childhood friend and adopted older brother Spider and now lost her other adoptive older brother Neteyam, all because of Quaritch.
Spider lost his biological mother, and now lost his adoptive younger brother to his father's henchman.
Tuk has lost her home and now her older brother Neteyam, who was like a father figure to her.
When will the Sullys stop losing someone else?

Its all because they wanted to go for spider, dude wasn’t in much danger anyways, they could’ve easily got him back another way, both brothers staying on the ship was risky enough they should’ve just grouped up with jake before trying anything.

I just realized something. Quaritch shot Grace when she was escaping with Jake in the first movie. Wainfleet shot Neteyam when he was escaping with Lo'ak and Spider in the second movie.

A couple of months back in April or May in the AM of early dawn, when watching whole movie, until I gotten to this scene on my laptop with my ear buds, I had chills and goosebumps during this whole scene, if it grips onto you, that means it did it’s job🔥

See, George Lucas? This is how you give your characters motivation. This is what motivation and emotion looks like.
Ever notice how Princess Leia never once grieved over the loss of Aldaraan?
And what Cameron does with Neytiri next is enough to terrify any fan.... But he still manages to make us care about Neytiri. Thats the work of a great filmmaker
I think just tonally Star Wars was going for something different. Avatar and Star Wars cover a similar topic, but in vastly different ways. Especially the first Star Wars was so pulpy and fast paced that I think the understated shock of Leia works well in the context of the film. It’s in the middle of the film, a big emotional beat would just be kind of odd in the edit when the rest of the movie is the way it is. It’d stick out like a sore thumb. It’d have to he the most important moment of the film, and I’m sorry but it just isn’t. You can’t just take one thing from one movie and place it another and expect it to work.

@@samwoodson9603 Neytiri is essentially a cartoon. Leia is not. That gives Avatar an edge. But if a filmmaker is good enough, he can make Leias grief over Aldaraan totally work.

Neytiri being a cartoon is not an edge, I think it’s a bigger challenge to get a convincing performance out of a cartoon because there’s the added hurdle of convincing the audience it’s even present in the moment. That’s what makes these films such marvels is that you buy that this CGI character is a living, breathing thing. Cameron’s not the only one who’s pulled that off, but most filmmakers don’t and it’s a huge achievement when any film does that. Besides the point though. And my stance is Leia’s reaction works perfectly fine in the context of the movie and I can only imagine giving her a reaction like Neytiri’s in this movie would detract from the film. It’s a different type of movie. Star Wars has never been about the same sort of tactile, realism Cameron’s all about. Even though Lucas is new Hollywood, he’s always exhibited more old Hollywood sensibilities.

Who ever made the decision for him to pass away mid sentence. Man I remember my heart beating so hard in the theatre and then my heart dropped once he passed because it was a shock with the timing. Great writing, directing, technology and acting.
