    My favorite thing about this movie is the attention to the ecosystem. This one scene shows some of the more interesting interactions;
    -side note: I love the way they use the shrinking spiral plants to reveal the rhino thing. That was SUCH a surprising moment for me.
    -the rhino has very in-depth instincts; it likes to bash its head against things which is very destructive, and unlike a rhino if you charge at the same time as it the animal will stop.
    -it's also a herd animal
    -then the panther thing comes out and the standoff he and the rhino bois have is very fascinating to me. it felt refreshing and very natural to see the panther not immediately focus on jake.
    -both species seem built for strength, which actually makes sense because the forest is dense and the rhinos need to be able to clear paths, the panther also needs to be able to tear up surroundings which its prey may try to use - exactly what we see in the chase.
    -and no, its not much and they didn't show every tiny detail of any of these animals but it sure af beats a lot of other movies focused more heavily on the humans struggle than the animals they're fighting.
    -and also, side note 2: the zebra bois aren't very strong because 1. they arent predators, and 2. their form of defense is fucking bouncing. therefore they're very thin and agile.

    I love how the Thanator doesn’t mindlessly roar the whole time it chases Sully around. Only when it’s irritated does it ever turn vocal, but hunting it stays mostly quiet and focused.
    Too many movie monsters always have to be vocal when chasing people, and it makes no sense as to why they do so. Carnivores keep their mouths shut when hunting or chasing their prey, so this was so refreshing to see at the time it came out.
