- The official audio of Ray Charles' "Busted" from the boxset TRUE GENIUS
Originally record by Country music legend Johnny Cash, Ray Charles version of “Busted” went to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in 1963. From the album Ingredients in a Recipe for Soul, the follow up to the genre defining Modern Sound in Country and Western Music Volume Two, Charles once again seamlessly combines elements of country and soul on this pop classic. Produced by Charles’ long time collaborator Sid Feller, this is the first time this track has been made officially available in over a decade.

LYRICS:
My bills are all due and the baby needs shoes and I'm busted
Cotton is down to a quarter a pound, but I'm busted
I got a cow that went dry and a hen that won't lay
A big stack of bills that gets bigger each day
The county's gonna haul my belongings away cause I'm busted
I went to my brother to ask for a loan cause I was busted
I hate to beg like a dog without his bone, but I'm busted
My brother said there ain't a thing I can do
My wife and my kids are all down with the flu
And I was just thinking about calling on you 'cause I'm busted
Well, I am no thief, but a man can go wrong when he's busted
The food that we canned last summer is gone and I'm busted
The fields are all bare and the cotton won't grow
Me and my family got to pack up and go
But I'll make a living, just where I don't know cause I'm busted
I'm broke, no bread, I mean like nothing, it's over

I was 11 years old when I heard Ray Charles for the first time in 1966, in Albania, one of the most orthodox comunist countries in Europe, where this music was banned, but I never stopped listening to him to this day. He was, is and will be my genius favorite singer… R. I. P. Ray Charles!
Did you hear him on the BBC or was Hoxha a fan?
@@zachgates7491 I used to hear him on radio Luxembourg, Rai uno, due, radio Prague, but not on bbc! It was far away, and we heard only bbc world service short waves!
une e kam patur fatin ta shof ketu ne New York ne Radio City. ngelet nje legjende . R.I.P. Ray Charles
He got his start in a "Cowboy Yodeling Band" in Florida!!😮When questioned he broke into serious yodeling on NPR!!😂. You are correct Sir- GENIUS!!
Heard this when I was a kid and loved it even though I didn't know what he was talking about. Now I do.Boy Howdy.A relatable song for every race, creed, and color.Genius.
The definitive recording of this great song.
This song takes the pain out of being broke
whenever im broke i always think of this song and it fills me with even more anxiety. Imagine basically being so broke you cant put gas in yur car and food n your fridge at the same time. ive had many many months where i had to make choice between eating nd having gas in my car u drive a fucking piece if shit gas hog i am fucking tired of it especially these days with the idiot we have in office
....unless you're a certain orange- haired person or a pillow-maker.
@@vitalityfox I remember those days well, food for the kids or fuel to get to duty. Went hungry so the kids could eat and barely got to and from the base.
Then, during the 2016 election, heard this white older guy haranguing a black gas station clerk about "welfare Cadillacs" and I went off on him and his Reagan bullshit. "It was bullshit when Reagan said it, it's bullshit now, so why don't you leave the bullshit in the cow pasture where it belongs?".
He wisely desisted and moved on to where he wasn't in danger of getting an aluminum cane wrapped around his head.
Pretty sure this is TFG's new campaign theme song though. The incumbent likely to use "Hit the road, Jack".
Thank God for Ray charles!! AMEN
I played this on Soul much soul radio!
The most beautiful voice🎼🙌🏻
I love Ray Charles, He was the real deal.
What a man.
I knew this as a John Conlee song, and his version is good, but this is on another level. As you'd expect from Ray.
Harlan Howard actually wrote it and did a damn good recording of it too.
I listened to him from a very early age, maybe 6, because my mom loved him and had all of his records.
When I was 13 we , along with my dad and sister, saw him perform on Johnny Cashes show. Great memories!
My family is white. Growing up in 50s and 60s my folks loved jazz, country, and many black performers. We were never taught to be prejudiced. Though high school I loved motown sound. I always kidder around that I'd love to sing like Aretha.
Awesome song 🎵
a great great really great one from Great Ray Charles, and what a back up band beside; Pure genius
Grande Ray.Brasil here💗💗💗💗
I heard it on cjnu radio this afternoon 93.7.in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada 🙂
Check out the awesome version by Nazareth.
Он великолепен! Только открыла для себя его. После просмотра фильма Рэй. Без ума от игры Джеймса Фокса в роли Рэя..... Вечная память величайшему Рэю Чарльзу!
I was a Child too when I heard this, I didn't know what this song meant, but I Loved it!! 😂
I started a new job and I'm busted.
love it love it ya baby
La grande classe mondiale.... j'adore...
Musicão! som excelente, falando da Vida Dificil😀😀😀😀😀😀
Yes it is still great
This how I feel now.
The original version by Ray Charles of Busted was Done 1963 as first track of the album Ingredients in a recipe for soul, one of Rays best and most soulful albums. The version from 1963 is clearly the best, one of Rays most important songs, and with his Voice in great form. Hard to understand this trixing with this song on an otherwise great anthology, True Genius.
This is a mix of Country & Western and Soul Music
@@dwightlove3704 Of course the tune is a country song in its origin, but I think that Ray Charles did to this song 1963 What he did to You are my sunshine 1962, transformer it to beautiful and soulful r&b.
@@ollewiberg6093 Just saying the obvious plus he added other forms of music to make it his own.He fell under the influence of C&W as a child in the '30s.
Very true during joe's term. I'm busted.
❤❤❤
🏆✨👌🏾
My bank account is over draft and i''m busted.

"Things were better back in the day" Nope. The rich were always rich and the poor were always poor.
Yeah except it didnt matter so much that you were broke. You could still afford things sometimes. Not anymore...
The original version of Busted from 1963 is not the one in True Genius. Its a pity since all the other tracks are the original ones. Busted is the single hit picked from the great album ”Ingredients in a Recipe for soul”. I think it is one of the great Numbers by Ray Charles from that period, the first half of the sixties.
Rudy’s new theme
That is not the original recorded version
Does anyone know of a version of this song sung by claes jansen, I know it exists, I just can't find it
sung as if he's honoring his misfortune with a bemused mock zest.
take my wife ....
Theme song of he Biden Presidency
Idk what the hell happed but this is NOT the original 45rpm version of this song. How did this get released!?! And why did they put out a fake re recording instead of the original? Please tell me it’s not because the original recording doesn’t exist anymore! I hear it on XM radio sometimes.
Thanks to Biden this is how many are feeling at the moment.
go storm the capitol traitor. you lost.
How is it Biden's fault? Maybe if you got up off your lazy backside and go to work.
@@ronniemoon57 I don't know how old you are, but I am 70 years old and have been working since I was 12 years old doing every thing from being a paper boy, dishwasher, busboy, TV repair man, furniture mover and warehouse worker and finally soil tester for the military. So unlike you, who probably demands reparation money, don't hand me your baloney, and if you cannot see how Biden is ripping you off you deserve to go bankrupt.
Trump's theme song.
sack the band ...save some cash
