My theory:
You can literally theorize anything about this show and it sounds plausible because this show has no chill and the animators are smoking alien jet fuel.

Well, it stands to reason that the entire show is really just a set up for an "I'm my own grandpa" moment. And if it wasn't before, the writers will make it so once they see this... even if it's only in C-42

This isn’t really related to Rick and Morty but it’s really interesting to see that loads of countries have folk tales with the same basic storyline.
Part of the reason is that stories got spread around and altered somewhat with each iteration so that each culture had their own version of a story.
That's not always why, it's just a factor. If there's on thing I've learned from college art history classes, it's that ideas used to spread farther than most people today realize.

Not only that, evidence to our shared development appears in our languages as well. Asian writing systems in particular can have characters that have small pieces of them that are similar to letters in writing systems like Aramaic, Hebrew, Cuneiform, etc.
Our history is wet and wild, in short. It's absolutely bonkers.
I think “ hating time travel” is Ricks and the creators way of doing a cheeky nod to Back to the Future. While Rick and Morty characters are based of Doc and Marty who dabble in Time Travel Rick and Morty deal more with dimension travel

I think evil Morty targeted c137 because he was one of the few Ricks that could bring down the citadel. Knocking down the power structure was key to seizing power, and Rick c137 was definitely pivotal in that event.
and plus in one episode, morty got flashed by the all knowing turtle making him know everything, it means he should've known rick is a morty
Tammy was introduced as an evil character at the end of season 2. She didn't show up until the very last episode in season 4 where she was immediately killed by Rick, who claimed she died as she lived "overserialized."
If 2 episodes is too much for the show, then I definitely don't see any fan theories holding up.
There are 2 kind of series:
1- a kind where each episode have nothing to do with the other and each episode can reboot the show even if everyone dies next episode everyone can be alive like nothing happened.
2- series of episodes that are connected to one another where it's trying to tell a big story.
The problem with rick and morty, it's trying to be both at the same time, they can literally say ANY episode where C-137 wasn't mentioned that this episode isn't canon or that it was based on any other rick and it would still make sense.
So the show is trying to have their cake and eat it too.

My theory:
After Rick dies, Morty wears his clothes and styles his hair like him as a coping mechanism, that’s the silhouette. He then drinks the potion a few years later(when the silhouette is seen). Like in the story film theory referenced, he faints then wakes up years later, waking up old, so he looks like Rick. It feels like no time has past for him, so he’s still coping. As a coping mechanism he delves in to Science to live on Rick’s legacy. Doing this he stumbles upon Rick’s old inventions and gadgets so he goes into another similar world(which hasn’t reunited with Rick yet) gets rid of their Rick and comes back to relive those adventures and memories.

This doesn't necessarily tie into a lot of things, But you know how Rick is depressed all the time because he knows so much. Ever sort of wake up at night remembering something stupid you did in the past? Well, doncha think if you had to live with your stupid teenage self all the time, see him make all the same mistakes you'd be depressed maybe even find it funny sometimes, maybe sometimes frustrating. Wouldn't you rather take your past self on cool fun adventures instead of just living that same loser life. Doesn't have to be just knowing all the secrets of the universe. Reconciling with your past is something we always have trouble with. Memory is the key.

Two alternate theories, without time travel: Rick knew he would be killed, so he used Morty's memory to reanimate himself. Or Rick passed the baton of all his knowledge to Morty - Morty becomes Rick 2.0. In the latter case the reference to rvw could be saying that Morty's life will never be the same

Here's the thing. I get your theory. However, evil morty targeting our rick could be interpreted another way. I think evil morty's ultimate goal was always to take over the citadel. Once that's done, he'd have eliminated the threat of all ricks, except one; our rick. Hence, he's determined to eliminate him once and for all. Just like he did to the ricks who failed to comply to him on the cousel because they'd pose a threat to his authority and perhaps even stand in the way of his plans. But heey!! Sadly most creators don't want to look at theories so they don't bias themselves and have to change their actual story bc it has already been theorized
Close in some ways, but much different at the same time. Dan Harmon said in an interview back in 2018 that he actively avoids fan theories to avoid coming to the conundrum of either 1) thinking they came up with it later, only to remember it was something they read; and 2) if the writers did come up with it first, but then read a fan theory on it later, Dan said he might question the idea all together and may change it purely based because it mirrored a fan theory.

I’m pretty sure the memory potion turned him into Rick, since in this memories are heavily emphasised to effect the physical world. I think him getting the message is the last of the memories flooding into his head.

Heeey i don't know if i'm the only one who noticed this but in the season 5 finale when morty gets to see ricks memories there is a scene(15:10) where there are 2 Ricks who have yellow t-shirts and blue pants just like morty but with an extra coat. I think evil Morty is the Morty that gets left behind and mauled by space beats in the intro.
So, the liquid in the vial is what is always in Rick’s flask. Also, it wouldn’t be drool on Rick’s chin, it’s the blue liquid from the vial. Perhaps, the Morty/Rick change IS a transformation and by constantly sipping the flask, Rick is essentially immortal by always being in the state of that transformation. He can’t get older, preserving his time with his current Morty/self.
Also, dumb Rick wears blue pants. When Rick is being interrogated inside his mind in prison, Rick has a throw away line of "Yeah. I used to wear blue pants."

Even with Rick stating it wasn't a real memory, it would stand to reason minor, throw away details were real. Making up memories is stated to be impossible. The kind of brain power it takes to fake the system would have to be insane, making it easier to not fake minor details.

I’ve interpreted the ending as Morty drank the vial and gained Ricks memories which made him Rick. He then listens to a message he had saved from when Morty was born. Since he remembers that Morty existed, Morty becomes real again.

That makes sense. Didn’t they mention something near the beginning about how the past affects the future because without it the future and present falls apart?
If he remembers Morty, Morty won’t just disappear… or, strangely, he still gets surprised by certain events happening. Like, if he remembered everything that’s already happened, maybe that’s why he’s so prepared all the time and never worried?
The hallucination says ‘this is your timeline’ so perhaps there’s something there too.
And then goes back to give this morty a happier life than his or a better one and that’s how all the ricks are made in different universes. Like morty now knowing all he does and being raised by Rick becomes Rick in tribute to the man who raised and taught him all about the universe but still comes back for the new morty created to give him the best friend he had growing up

I think with all the deep thought done by the fans and the theories they put forward, the creators are sitting back and laughing their asses off. I think they troll the theories and stoke the fires by putting out stuff like this that seems to support some of the theories. They never flatly acknowledge or deny anything. As long as we’re talking about R&M they are happy and raking in the Schmeckles.

I hope people see this comment after watching season 6 as of December 23/22. What if Rick sees his original Morty growing up to be like Rick Prime and he is trying to stop Morty from becoming too powerful and too smart he leaves him. It wouldn't be too far fetched to think that considering that Morty's can grow to be like Rick's and C-137 is trying to stop another mass genocide of the next generations of Rick's.

If I understand correctly it is made partly of this memory parasites. They could create completely new being just from (fake) memories.
But mixture is made by Rick and it could for example create much better version of this parasite (like Mr Poopybutthole in other theory) - Parasite that is functioning like normal live being.
So if Morthy drink it and try to remind himself about rick it could create our Rick. Maybe even with all of his memories.

In Morty's Mind Blowers (S3 E8) both Rick and Morty lose their memories. After attempting to remember who they were, summer shows up and saves the day by using a *blue vial* on Rick and a yellow vile on Morty so they could both *regain their memories* up to the point before they lost them.
Now at 6:20 Rick instructs morty to drink a very special *blue vial* once he's gone and later calls him *Rick Sanchez*
I'm just pointing this out because of its similarities between these 2 scenes and thought it'd make for an interesting theory.

If this is supposed to be Canon, wouldn't be surprised if the last scene with Rick placing down the vial isn't from the same moment in time, but from the past, showing that Rick received memories from someone before him, and that's just how he's always been the smartest man in the universe. I can definitely see there being a few holes in that, but it made the ending make a lot more sense for me.

But what if the blue vile was rather the memory parasite ? So when “ rick” put the empty vile down, he put it in his flask because in the show he always has his flask on him . Just keeps filling it up with beer, watering down so its still in the bottle but getting less strong. Over time their adventures decreased or got less fun. Because they were just memory hallucinations. But thats just my guess

I personally like the second theory more. It is possible that adult morty (new rick) simply named his child Jerry in honor of his father. Jerry doesn't have a good enough relationship with Rick (And visa versa) to call him out of the blue even referring to him as DAD. Especially because we are led to believe that Rick is gone before Morty is born. Jerry Jr. Then continues the cycle by naming is son Morty Jr. Another possibility is this is a scene from 14 years prior, as Morty is born, where Rick consumes a vial similar to the one he gave Morty with memories of another Rick or person.
