Shark Pet Pro Review/Tests/Comparisons

  • In this review of the Shark Navigator Zero-M Pet Pro upright vacuum we highlight what we like and what we don’t like. We also discuss the different models of Pet Pro. See it on Amazon: amzn.to/2U9YY6Q
See our Shark Pet Pro written review: vacuum-cleaner-advisor.com/Sh...
The start by highlighting the many things we like about our Pet Pro and the first thing is the suction control slider. We like this feature as it allows you to reduce suction under the cleaner head and also at the end of the handle or wand. We provide an example by showing how reduced suction at the end of the handle allows you to vacuum more delicate materials.
The second thing we like about the Pet Pro is the large dust canister and we compare the size of the Pet Pro dust canister to that of two other Shark Zero-M vacuums, namely the Navigator ZU561 and the APEX. The large dust canister on the Pet Pro allows you to vacuum for long periods without having to stop and empty it.
The Pet Pro, along with a host of other Shark vacuums, performed well in our carpet tests when tackling small-to-medium sized debris like ground fruit loops, flax seeds, chili flakes, and split green peas. The vacuum also performed well when we tested it on all manner of debris (small/medium/large) on our tile floors.
We like the Zero-M Technology, or what Shark sometimes refers to as a self-cleaning brushroll. We explain how the technology works and also take apart an APEX cleaner head to show the different parts of the technology. We then run our Pet Pro over long black human hair as well as short white pet hair and show that no hair is left on the brushroll.
The hose on the Pet Pro is quite long when compared to the hoses on many of our other Shark uprights. We show the hose reach on a few of our Shark uprights including the Pet Pro. We measured the reach (to the end of the wand) on the Pet Pro at 10 ft and 7 inches before the vacuum was pulled over. This is, in our opinion, quite reasonable and it makes working with the hose/wand/tools easier.
The Pet Pro is a good choice if you or someone in your family suffers from asthma or allergies. The vacuum has both a HEPA filter and a sealed system. A HEPA filter removes the likes of dust mites, tobacco smoke, mold spores, etc. from the air. However, a HEPA filter on its own will not guarantee quality air because unfiltered air may escape the vacuum before being filtered - through poor seals or cracks. However, a vacuum with a sealed system does not allow unfiltered air to escape the vacuum and will exhaust properly filtered air.
We also tested the vacuum for noise output. We placed a digital noise level meter 3 ft in front of the cleaner head with the brushroll on and we recorded the peak decibel level. We did this for several vacuum cleaners and the Pet Pro was the quietest of the bunch.
On the downside, the Pet Pro ZU62 has a 25 foot power cord which is, in our opinion, a bit short. We have found in our 12 years of reviewing vacuums that owners tend to get a bit grumpy when their power cord is under 30 feet in length. They do not like having to seek out power outlets frequently while trying to vacuum.
We find that the vacuum feels a little heavy when you are moving it on carpet. It weighs 16 lbs which by today’s standards is perhaps a little above average. Moving the Pet Pro back and forth is ok but when turning it on carpet you do feel a little bit of resistance. We show the movement on carpet of the Pet Pro, the APEX, the ZU561, and the NV752 (which is the easiest of all the vacuums to move and maneuver).
Unfortunately there is only room on-board the vacuum for three tools despite the fact that the unit comes with three tools. So one tool must be left behind when you are cleaning.
We also noticed that the Pet Pro struggled with larger debris (fruit loops) on our low pile carpet. We show cleaning passes with the ZU561, the APEX and the Pet Pro. You can see in our tests that the Pet Pro leaves more fruit loops behind than the other vacuums.
We wish that the vacuum had headlights but it does not. We also wish that it came with the popular lift away feature. We discuss the lift away feature, show how it works, and also describe the difference between “powered lift away” and “lift away”.
Finally we provide a quick summary of the pros and cons (likes and dislikes).

I agree with other commnets. I am impressed and appreciate how well you covered pros and cons of the vacuum and gave visiual displays for us to see. One other item I would add the the ZU62 as a do not like as compared to ZU561 is that if there is a problem with the brush roller on ZU62 you cannot replace. The ZU561 has removable head

I agree with a previous commenter - this is an exceptional review. I have long hair and am sick to the back teeth with having to wrestle it off rollers or cutting it off rollers. I was looking at the Shark ZU62 as there were recommendations online re human hair and how well this vacuum deals with it. I was still sceptical. I'm convinced now that the Shark ZU62 6:32-7:05 is the one for me *subscribed* thank you!!

Just purchased this vacuum two days ago, used it in my bedroom and was surprised with how much it picked up; needless to say, my previous vacuum wasn't doing jack squat. I bought it at Best Buy after reading multiple reviews on the site, practically every review had something positive to say and slight drawbacks that shouldn't deter anyone from purchasing this vacuum. Looking forward to how it holds up for another couple months and/or years.

I have the shark rotary power pet vacuum and I love it. However today it will not stay powered on unless I hold the silver power on button the whole time I’m vacuuming. Not fun! I cleaned it, cleaned the brush, etc....it works fine IF I hold the button down, which is extremely hard with some arthritis in my hands ☹️ What in earth could be causing that? It lights up when I push the button...I lower the handle and the brush engages, but it shuts off unless the button is pushed down. Any ideas?????

I'm trying to decide between this and the navigator zero m lift away. I have 4 dogs, 3 of them have long hair and a cat with long hair 😅 my terrible carpets in our rental are fairly high pile shaggy mess. In some rooms we have hard floors too. You can imagine I vacuum a lot 😅 basically every day now.
Is the larger bin size and longer hose worth not having headlights and lift away? If I had lift away I only see myself using it for our cars but who knows might be something you only miss once you've had it.

Is there any negative to the DuoClean head that would make a Shark vacuum without DuoCleam preferable?

    • @VacuumAdvisor
      @VacuumAdvisor  Před 4 lety +1

That's a good question. We have several DuoClean vacuums and like them. Offhand, I do notice that the brushrolls are linked, so when the soft brushroll is spinning in hard floor mode (it cannot be turned off) then the bristled brushroll is also spinning and some people may not want brushrolls spinning on their hard floor (if they have delicate flooring for example). Also, if you get Zero-M technology because you don't want to deal with any hair wrap, that technology does not extend to the soft brushroll - which can get hair wrapped around it (this could be an issue for some who get both Zero-M Technology and DuoClean Technology). Some DuoClean machines feel a little hard to push forward on deep pile carpet but others do not - so not sure if we can contribute that to the Technology. Perhaps other folks have ideas or have had some issues with their DuoClean Technology?

If you did it with dry leaves or a bunch of hair, or dog hair maybe we can start there. Unless they all work the same then it wouldn't be much of a review. So that is why we need cereal to make it like that.
