- Documentary on NBA star Charles Barkley.
Charles Wade Barkley (born February 20, 1963) is an American retired professional basketball player and current analyst on the television program Inside the NBA. Nicknamed "Chuck", "Sir Charles", and "The Round Mound of Rebound", Barkley established himself as one of the National Basketball Association's (NBA's) most dominating power forwards. He was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 5th pick of the 1984 NBA Draft. He was selected to the All-NBA First Team five times, the All-NBA Second Team five times, and once to the All-NBA Third Team. He earned eleven NBA All-Star Game appearances and was named the All-Star MVP in 1991. In 1993, he was voted the league's Most Valuable Player and during the NBA's 50th anniversary, named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History. He competed in the 1992 and 1996 Olympic games and won two gold medals as a member of the United States' Dream Team. In 2006, Barkley was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Barkley was popular with the fans and media and made the NBA's All-Interview Team for his last 13 seasons in the league. He was frequently involved in on- and off-court fights and sometimes stirred national controversy, as in March 1991 when he mistakenly spat on a young girl, and as in 1993 when he declared that sports figures should not be considered role models. Short for a power forward, Barkley used his strength and aggressiveness to become one of the NBA's most dominant rebounders. He was a versatile player who had the ability to score, create plays, and defend. In 2000, he retired as the fourth player in NBA history to achieve 20,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 4,000 assists. Since retiring as a player, Barkley has had a successful career as a television NBA analyst. He works with Turner Network Television (TNT) as a studio pundit for its coverage of NBA games. In addition, Barkley has written several books and has shown an interest in politics; in October 2008, he announced that he would run for Governor of Alabama in 2014, but he changed his mind in 2010. - Sport
I met a man that worked at the airport. The N.B.A. team that Charles was on landed. The man that worked at the airport was asked by Charles: What are you doing here? Charles knew. The reply was: Mr. Barkley, I work the graveyard shift. He said, that must be really hard on you and your family! Charles proceeded to pull out a roll of $100.00 bills and passed them out to all the employees he could find working that shift! What a beautiful thing to do!
Didn't he say he hates white people?
Nice.
Charles "wrote" two books....One is funny as hell, the other was a waste of paper.
Guess he cashed in.
Other than than the Unforgivable Sin and the Ten Commandments being an Outline to "thinking" you can cast the first stone, i think God measures us in simple terms, "Were you a Giver or a Taker??"
Charles has a heart and soul and admits he is only human, and to human is to error. That's why he is a LEGEND
so well said. I like Charles Barkley, He is out spoken. I wish that he
had trained better, took care of his body like Pippen said.
@@pdgutierrez8784 yeah, i just think he got fatigue from losing to Michael. I think if the suns would of won, his attitude would be different.
Charles Barkley, he's one of those players that come once in a lifetime. You're never going to see a basketball player that stands at 6'4 playing the PF position; putting up 28pts, shooting 58% from the floor & grabbing 12 rebounds.
chris boshhh?
+Ty Ricks lolololololololol
John Starks barkley is 6'4 not 6'6 like his bball card is listed
Barkley is a legit 6'6. I remember meeting him during the 90's with a good friend of mine whose 6'6. I'm a legit 6'2 and Barkley had 4 inches on me while my friend was equal in height to him.
Ty Ricks No just No.
The Dan Marino of basketball. Best player never to win a ring. Perhaps the most honorable achievement in a team sport. Incredible.
Really? There's like five of those in NBA history. Patrick Ewing, Reggie Miler, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Allen Iverson, I'll even throw Vince Carter into the mix.
spinner90 Don’t forget Dominique Wilkins!!
I got Karl Malone before him but okay
@@xtravagancy7023 there is no malone without john mate.
The duo of Stockton and Malone has gotta be up there too
He was a man of the fans and didn't live a insulated lifestyle like most of these other superstars. He cared about family and fans/friends, a man of the people Sir Charles
Charles Barkley was one of the few athletes who would say whatever he would want to say to whoever he wanted to say it to
Sir Charles was Sir Charles. He was great for the game and he played the game amazingly.
some people argue the greatest honor, more than a ring or even HOF, is an organization retiring your number, Barkley has his number retired in two organizations...
I remember Barkley coming to Phoenix Suns. It was great era of Suns Basketball
My Hero in Basketball was Charles Barkley. I love this Guy at the times i played Basketball . Much love from a Greek Fan. Charles was on the Level of MJ Drexler Malone Pippen etc... he was one the Great ones of the 80s and 90s. Sir Charles Barkley !
Still my favorite player of all time.
Mines to...
also mine
Count me in
Ya @fbomb hes one of my all time favs also kids now a days will never know what players like him and other greats of all time had to go through. Back then that was basketball. Today its basketball but more like WNBA rules watered down ball. Most of the players playing now would walk away from the game back in the 80s and 90s not build for it. Too many snowflakes now a days wish we could go back to simpler times. When sports were actually sports u played to the death.. that's my 2 cents
Forever my favorite basketball player ever. Grew up watching the round mound. From Auburn to Philly to Dream Team to Phoenix and beyond
The most unique player of all time!
I love the ending to this documentary. He is much more wise then people give him credit for
mffl413 no question Charles is def an intelligent guy
@@andytihonow3676 ll
A couple times a year i come back to this and other basketball players documentaries on sportscentury.
Charles was one of the top 3 power forwards ever. At 6"4. And he was 6"4.
Reinvented the powerforward position
Reinvented a new style of playing ball...but competitive and reckless
@@arlandoharris6664 like him better than. Mail man Karl couldn't put the ball on the floor
You couldn't get around him & you wasn't going thru him!!! And that block on Hakeem when he stood up and block him STRAIGHT Up like MasterCard PRICLESS😉😙😊😀😃😘!!!
@Vodoo Child I'm 6'4 I've met Charles a few times. We were eye to eye, no way is he 6'6.
Although he was only 6'5" he was physically gifted. He had a 6'11" wingspan and could jump out of the gym for a 250lb player, and clear out space with his low center of gravity. He also intimidated other players and got them off their game.
Sir Charles was a BEAST.
One of my favorite player I love how hes passionate and plays well he can dunk and score and brings his A game and hes not afraid to give it his all. He was even the mvps at the Olympics he played well on all his teams, the 76ers and Phoenix even competed well many games against Jordan., was a great scorer and rebounder, he was fueled by passion and desire. He is one of the great players that never one a title.
I found Charles to be the most exciting to watch in basketball. NEVER missed a game that I could watch. My very favorite. : )
Sir Charles showed great heart in the first championship games 5 & 6 against the Rockets. He was having back pain, but left it all out on the court.
Advanced metrics show that Barkley is one of the most devastating offensive players in NBA history.
majorsynth love his low post power move towards the basket
majorsynth
That's true. So does film of him playing basketball.
To show HOW dominant Barkley was, only 2 players (Wilt Chamberlain, Moses Malone) recorded 10+ RPG over 15 straight seasons the way Barkley did. Not Kareem, not Bill Russell, Hakeem Olajuwan, or anyone else. And unlike Wilt and Moses being very tall, Barkley did it at around 6'4 (he wasn't 6'6 as listed).
@@mikes3827 If Barkeley was 6'4, MJ must be 6'2, 6'3.
Charles wasn't a Role Model for kids and they never called him "Dad", he was a Role Model for Adults and we called him "Sir".
A working man's sport's hero will outlast all others. He has a lot to be proud of.
damn, look at Barkley's stats...BEAST
Lead the 92 Dream Team in scoring as well
I was a short chubby kid who lived and loved basketball Charles Barkley was my 1st hero in a MJ world he still makes me fell young
man i as so lucky to grow up in this era of basketball
Slycargo Bravado most talented era imo. Any doubts, watch the 92 dream team
I with you 100%
Loved watching Charles Barkley he held nothing back on and off the court we all gotta love Charles for being Charles
sir charles one of my all time fav... he was what ali was to boxing!!he said what he wanted n did what he wanted, hate him or love him.
I always loved Charles Barkley, is not perfect but who is ? He didn't try to have that pristine image as the Brady. Jordan or Tiger of this world.
WE LOVE YOU CHUCK. LEGEND
One of my favorite NBA players of the 90s
They picked out Charles and he was up for the challenge and gave Teams and the media all they could handle and more..He was just too entertaining and so much fun, Glad Charles happened in my time. Dream Team was the Greatest collection ever!!!
Too bad this isn't a basketball documentary. It's a personality Criticism. Bakley might have been a lot of things, but he was/is one of the greatests. And this is overlooked on this video. Best player not to win a ring.
Dude, if it wasn't for Barkley's heroics in the 93 finals, the Suns would've gotten swept by Chicago. He averaged 27 points and 13 boards in that series and would've been the MVP had Phoenix pulled off the upset.
Nikiforos Vlachos it's a documentary that's stating facts crybaby
I don't mind, charles is an interesting character. Everybody knows he is good and did not win the ring cus of his team
Barkley was right to hate white people, it wasn't a joke and i don't get why people must dictate whom you must like or hate. I thought America is the land of the free. All i see that its bullshit.
@@adamsamuel8593 good thing bout America 🇺🇸 is if you don't like it here then tou can LEAVE!!
Charles Barkley is one of my heroes. all ways tells the truth.great basketball players without a ring
I'd love to see Barkley and Bird sit down and talk about Laimbeer lol
Actually I'd love to see them talk about a lot of shit.
Erlyk Dalkien
Laimbeer was a dirty dude. He would do dirt, and throw a fit, claiming he didn't do it.
I would too!
laimbeer was a whiny bitch. great ballplayer though
Chuck deserved a ring in Philadelphia and Phoenix. He played hard and he was dominate for over 10 years!!
The Pistons and the Bulls were just better teams. One guy doesn’t win championships.
That's why Sir Charles will always be my favourite baller
He needs a separate documentary just for his Inside the NBA run (no pun intended).
With clips and commentary from Ernie and Underdog
One of the greatest personalities and players in american sports history, right up there with Shaq, no question.
Love this guy. One of my top 5 favorite NBA players, ever. Actually, probably one of my top 2 favorite players...
I remember watching that 1993 Finals game 6 for the first time in 2005. When Paxson hit that 3 it crushed me even though I knew the Chicago Bulls were going to win anyway. Then 2 or 3 years later Tim Duncan hit a crucial 3 pointer on the Suns and it felt just as horrible.
I love charles. Hes always growing and learning
My favorite player of all time Round Mound of the Rebound
I see why the NBA didn't allow you to win an NBA championship Mr. Barkley. You didn't get on your knees, bend over, or play the politics of entertainment. Respect Mr. Barkley. You did it your way!
You play the game to win rings and medals, he only got medals which isn't bad but he should have left Philly in 1990 or 91 to join Portland imagine him with Drexler, MJ's Bulls would have been in trouble. Portland vs Bulls might have been a rivalry.
Sir Charles, awesome player!!!!
"We've tried, it's your turn..." What a LEGEND 💯🇺🇲👍
One man can't win rings. It takes a team. If Barkley had great help from other players he would have had a better chance, just like Jordan had Pippen, Armstrong Grant.
Exactly look at the career of Wilt Chamberlain he during his time in Philadelphia was basically a 1 man show always losing to the Boston Celtics 9 Hall of Famers they had.
If those guys were great leaders they would have made their teammates better and won more championships.
He had Scottie pippen and Hakeem olajuawon
@@mauricelamar1779 Facts. But no one talks about that though.
@@mauricelamar1779 What on the Houston Dads? Everyone on that team was way past their prime Barkley could hardly jump at that stage.
Barkley being washed up definitely is clearly bullshit. Barkley achieved his career high rebounds in one game as a Rocket more than any time he ever played in Philly and Phoenix. Houston Rockets-era Charles Barkley did more than OKC Melo ever did in the NBA.
Yea but it was off and on. Not nearly as consistent like in his previous years.
Barkley is the Man.
Charles was always my second favorite player obviously behind Michael, but I always loved his outspokenness and how he didn't care what people thought, and just a great player best forward in the NBA
There will never be a 6'4 guy that will do what charles barkley did. Rebounds and a guy who had attitude and determination. We will never see a guy like Charles Barkley again. Comment if you want
And that's why we're here, watching 30 year old clips of a one of a kind.
Sir Charles was the greatest and the reason I became a basketball fan. When all my peers were all jordan obsessed I'm here loving Barkley!!
@@Mike-ix5sv Charles Barkley is the one man who did not give a fuck about what people said or thought about him. That's what made him one of the greats. I just wish I could have been alive to watch him play. It would have been amazing to see him play
It's a shame how low the bar is now for professionalism. Thank you, Charles.
Sir Charles...just respect great athlete, determination, great man with BBALLS
was a joy watching this guy devastate for years in philly. love me some chuck.
Me. Sir Charles I'm 49 years old and can remember you very well. You were a great roll model for me and alot of other people my age at that time . To be not so talk and can still snatch rebounds over bigger people you taught me that. I would take you over Scotty's week as any time brother. Scotty had super stars around him . YOU AND AKEEM OLAJUWON DID NOT , AND LOOK HOW MUCH DAMAGE BORH YOU GUYS DID IN THE NBA. LOT OF LOVE SIR CHARLES AND THANKS FOR ALL MEMORIES
Hearing Charles talk about Michael being his brother and how they were so close is sad in retrospect.
Man he didn't have no kobe he didn't have no d wade he didn't have no curry man he made it to the finals did his best
You are absolutely right. Jordan had Pippen along side him. Basketball Is a team sport.
Charles needed help to win a championship.
Love, Love, Love Sir Charles haha!
Sir charles is simply amazing
Now i know why he works on TNT
“You’re responsible for your own actions, your work ethics are the limitations to the success you’re capable of.” - JP
One of my favorite players of all time
this is so inspiring..
"BIG 'OL SAN ANTONIO WOMEN" 🤣🤣
funny how we make fun of him now, dudes a beast back in the day
i love charles barkley because he is a true person, he says what he means, no sugar coating, no beating around the bush, funny guy too, does not take himself too seriously
I love me some Charles Barkley. True legend.
9:58 The irony of listening to Jim Gray criticize anyone for “a momentary lapse of stupidity,” is laughable. That guy’s entire career will be remembered for nothing but those types of moments.
Sir Charles is the POWER itself a winner and a superstar of all times
Im still rockin those cb34 to this day! I got two pairs just to be sure! 😎
I wanna get a pair but they're tough to find in good shape for a reasonable price.
Still rock my 25 year old charles barkley jerseys all the time in the summer.
Had the cb4's ( first pair he wore with Houston) back in high school.
Love charels barkley
never seen a player rebound, go coast to coast, and finish like charles.
Great ball player and a great man!!
We love you charles.
One of the smallest AND one of the best PF of all time.
When Barkley went to Phoenix that was awesome!! I don't like the fact he spit on a spectator but I loved it when he went to Phoenix!!
7:20 Malcolm Morran looks like Dave Chapelle in his white face news anchor role
"Simple and plain, give me the lane, I'll throw it down your throat like Barkley." -Chuck D
I became interested in college BB when some black guys I worked with turned me on to Charles Barkley. I've been a fan ever since, even during those bad Philly days. Once in the NBA it wasn't about your BB ability, it was about your thought processes. I don't think I've ever heard a person speak more eloquently on so many different subjects. I've been an NBA fan since the early 50's
I went to search for this in CZcams, “Barkley do...” and the first result was Barkley donuts 😂😂
I like watching the espn bottom line of the documentary where they show the scores to see what was goin on the year this doc was made
My all time favourite basketball player.....🏀🏀🏀
My favorite player of all time ...hands down ...and look at the stats he is right there with Jordan ...I don’t care what anyone says
Charles Barkley was 6'4 over 270lbs & had the power to play on the low block dominating his opponents while possessing the speed to run-n-gun on both ends of the basketball court. It's an unbelievable array of skills to be blessed with. I always hated that he didn't get a ring in the 1993 NBA Finals. He was so deserving of it & clearly Michael Jordan spoiled everybody's fun in the playoffs. Barkley was definitely the "Muhammad Ali" of the NBA basketball world for sure, no debates💪😉💪🙏👍😎👌
One of the best players 🏀
My favorite player of all-time!
Charles barkly was a great player. He ran jumped scored but never won a championship.
My favorite player too. This is not about not winning a ring, but the memories he left on my life as a child.
the best power FORWARD of all time
Charles Barkley is Amercan treasure.
Everyone had the Scotty pippin's (the ones that said AIR real big on side of shoe) in 7th grade I had the Charles Barkley's (CB 94💪)
Barkley always been our Legend. here in Phoenix.
My top Power Forward of all time...! The epitome of the power forward; Sir Charles.
+MrBoggiejamz --- LeBron trumps him. Charles is the first to admit it.
+dave474c Notice that I said the best power forward of all time.. Not the best small forward! LeBron James is a small forward; not a power forward..
MrBoggiejamz Ok, I see your point.
But in reality, LeBron James is whatever position he feels like playing in any given trip down the court.
He can play 1-5.
+MrBoggiejamz Tim Duncan , then Sir Charles
+Harley Nah..., 1. Sir Charles 2. Karl Malone and then maybe Timmy. I am not counting championships. I am referring to pure skill and talent alone.
in his finals with the Suns charles averaged about 30 and 20 and shot over 50% round numbers I know but really show me anybody that does that! That was against one of the NBA's best defenses.
MAN. . Wiping my eyes big fan of penny since Orlando's days God shows his loving creation in a person right here
in the conference finals vs the sonics charles barkley definitely played elite in games five and seven
Charles is Charles greatest little big man in the paint ever .
Love u Charles
I was a Suns fan because of Barkley. And I’m from Massachusetts.
"I'm a 90s nigga" might be the most legendary shit. 😂
How can you not laugh about Charles spitting at people and throwing them through windows? That shyt is hilarious 😂
He was on the 76ers when I met him at a Flyers Game. He was huge. 6'7-6'8 easily.
I love this man!
Very cool what a real dude
👑Sir Charles👑
