  • ESPN documentary on NBA basketball player and great legend Wilt Chamberlain.
    Wilton Norman "Wilt" Chamberlain (August 21, 1936 -- October 12, 1999) was an American basketball player. He played for the Philadelphia/San Francisco Warriors, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Lakers of the NBA; he played for the University of Kansas and also for the Harlem Globetrotters before playing in the NBA. The 7 foot 1 inch Chamberlain weighed 250 pounds as a rookie before bulking up to 275 and eventually to over 300 pounds with the Lakers. He played the center position and is widely considered one of the greatest and most dominant players in NBA history.
    Chamberlain holds numerous NBA all-time records in scoring, rebounding and durability categories. He is the only player to score 100 points in a single NBA game or average more than 40 and 50 points in a season. He also won seven scoring, nine field goal percentage, and eleven rebounding titles, and once even led the league in assists. Chamberlain is the only player in NBA history to average at least 30 points and 20 rebounds per game in a season, a feat he accomplished nine times. He is also the only player to average at least 30 points and 20 rebounds per game over the entire course of his NBA career.
    Although he suffered a long string of professional losses, Chamberlain had a successful career, winning two NBA championships, earning four regular-season Most Valuable Player awards, the Rookie of the Year award, one NBA Finals MVP award, and being selected to 13 All-Star Games and ten All-NBA First and Second teams. Chamberlain was subsequently enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1978, elected into the NBA's 35th Anniversary Team of 1980, and chosen as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History of 1996.

    About his book, the media overlooked the appreciation Chamberlain had for female athletes. He wrote that had the Title VII opportunities been available to his sisters, they would have qualified. Can you imagine the impact they would have made? He also praised specific aspects of the games of several top female tennis players as he attended tournaments. The chapter ended with his encouraging women to develop a new sport that took advantage of their natural flexibility and endurance.

      Pete Thomas I’m talking Who was the best in there prime. You can do 5 year prime or 10 year prime or just 1 year prime. Like you could say Oscar had the better prime then Magic but Magic had better career. Or Wilt had better prime but Kareem had better career. Bird had better prime but Lebron had better career so on. All this to justify Wilt. Because majority says Kareem is the best, but he play 20 years to Wilts 13 and has 6 rings compared to Wilts 2 etc. ESPN has brainwashed us into believing Kareem is better then Wilt with the likes of Skip Bayless and Bill Simmons and always talking about rings. Always saying Jordan is 6 for 6, unblemished in finals and devaluing his entire squad sounding like MJ did it all by himself. Whereas Wilt is labeled as a loser even though He went up against the greatest dynasty in history of basketball in Celtics and all time great Lakers and Knicks teams. Jordan went up against good teams but not great teams in finals. That’s why I put Wilt number 1! He can’t dribble or shoot or play perimeter but he dominates the paint on both ends. Like the video says Wilt would have been better in individual sport.. So many nuances and conundrums with Wilt. Like he didn’t play defense in 4th quarter because he didn’t want to foul out, not getting the ball in 68, Breda Kolf situation, Willis Reed hurt in 70. Wilt gets all the blame for his teams losses Anyways 5 year prime for a Fantasy draft
      60-65 Wilt
      69-74 Kareem
      89-93 Jordan
      82-86 Bird
      85-90 Magic
      05-10 Kobe
      09-15 Lebron
      60-65 Russell
      60-65 Oscar
      00-05 Duncan
      1995-2000 Shaq
      Based on Career Greatest
      1. Kareem
      2. Jordan

    Chamberlain could dominate Russel one on one but his teams overall had less talent then the Celtics. Basketball is a team sport so the results speak for themselves. Russel had more zeal, an extra punch, Still, Chamberlain set remarkable individual records, but instead of winning 7 or 8 championships he settle for two. It's hard to change your game when you're the most dominant player in Basketball. But he di, and got at least 2 championships. Great era for NBA

      Ryan sansaricq In 1969 - Wilt's teammate, the logo, Jerry West averaged 38-5-7 in the series - without a 3pt line - and won Finals MVP. Lakers must have won, right? Not quite.
      Game 6, with the Lakers leading the series 3-2, the great Wilt has a mere 8 points to Russell's and Sam Jones' 9 points apiece. 6 of Wilt's 8 points came from the free throw line (6/10 shooting). With Wilt's extremely poor offensive showing, the Celtics won by 9.
      The series is now tied 3-3 heading back to LA. Wilt has a chance to redeem himself in Game 7. Surely he will make up for it this time, right?
      In Game 7, West drops 43-13-12, and the Lakers still lost. What happened?
      Well first of all, Sam Jones outscored Wilt in their 4th consecutive Game 7 meeting, 24 to 18. Wilt dropped only 18 points and went 4-13 (30%) at the FT line, and the Celtics only won by two points. Did Wilt not have enough help with Jerry West's insane 43-13-12 (and without a 3pt line)? Were his nine missed free throws the fault of Jerry West?
      Wilt got hurt halfway through the 4th quarter and with Wilt on the bench, the Lakers cut the 105-96 lead to 103-102, and only lost by 2 points thanks to Wilt's 9 earlier bricks at the FT line.
      Wilt FT in the NBA Finals = 124/326, a 38% shooter.Wilt lost 4 game 7s to Russell by a combined 9 points. Once again, imagine how many close games in the Finals Wilt's bricking cost him?

    Chamberlain doesn’t get the credit he deserves IMO , because he only won two titles,and a lot of stats that they keep now weren’t kept back then. Blocked shots which Wilt is probably the all time leader and steals which he had many weren’t kept or he’d have more records. He would have won many DPOY awards had there one. When you’re the reason rules are changed in a sport, it speaks for itself. #GOAT

    If Wilt was playing today he'd average 32, 15, 4 blocks and 4 assists and be an mvp candidate every year. He was 7'1, 290 pounds, as long as Hassan Whiteside, as strong as DeMarcus Cousins and as agile as Anthony Davis, plus smarter than almost every player ever. Totally dominating

    the reason chamberlin didn't have "the fire in the belly" like russell was because the sport was to easy and it took 20 years for him to meet a man that could even slow him down and even force him to work. in a day like this when there are so many 7 foooters wilt would have played with more "fire in his belly" and still dominated. Olojawon looks very athletic in the post; but besides that he played like a big man; wilt was 7 1 and didnt move like a big

      David Meza Wilt's defending champ and number 1 seed Sixers are up 3-1 on the AGING Celtics. What happens? Wilt loses the 3-1 lead as the Celtics won 3 straight, including 2 on Wilt's home court, and Bill puts the clamps on Wilt as he only drops 14 in Game 7. Once again is Wilt outscored by Sam Jones 22 to 14 for their 3rd consecutive Game 7 meeting - when it actually matters. And Russell coached the winning team while clamping wilt down in game 7 as well.
      The worst part about Game 7 of 1968? Wilt shot 6-15 (40%) at the FT line, and the Celtics only won by 4 points with Wilt's 9 missed free throws. Wilt's "wilting" when it mattered is the reason Wilt lost, not his teammates.
      Wilt FT in the NBA Finals = 124/326, a 38% shooter.Wilt lost 4 game 7s to Russell by a combined 9 points. Once again, imagine how many close games in the Finals Wilt's bricking cost him?

    Wilt chamberlain is a defensive wizard. Individually, wilt was better than bill Russell, but Russell got a better team. And the Boston Celtics always found ways to defend against chamberlain who scored less points against them than any other teams. His two championship titles were credited largely to his great defense.

      Bill Russell was a better defender than Wilt Chamberlain :
      1) He was a better on-man defender than Wilt;
      2) Bill Russell was also quicker to close-out;
      3) Bill Russell was amongst the best pick-and-roll defender off all-time along w/ Hakeem, Ben Wallace, The Oak, Garnett & Gasol [he will have recognition in a few years];
      4) Bill Russell had one of the best defensive timing ever w/ Dennis Rodman... these guys were never caught out of position.
      Everyone who plays against both of them said so... offensively Wilt Chamberlain get the edge easily.

      Britloves Quincy In 1969 - Wilt's teammate, the logo, Jerry West averaged 38-5-7 in the series - without a 3pt line - and won Finals MVP.
