Absolutely a win for 185 bucks. Liking the A-series more and more every year, as the S series and other flagship categories phones' performance levels continue to race ever further ahead of what the avg user can really make use of. It does come in handy when trying to get the most out of multiple of these wild and wicked camera sensors simultaneously in a just a few tens of milliseconds. Relatively speaking it really takes a tremendous amount of both tailored hardware accellerated _and_ general compute grunt, to pull that off. Even if understood it's still very easy to forget, that unlike an actual dedicated camera, those tiny little camera things in your phone that pull these wild tricks are not cameras. They are just sensors. Some "camera" modules may include a tiny micro servo to enable movement for a bit of optical zoom. Simplified, they just generate a raw color value for whstever light hit a pixel. The SoC (package bundling the primary CPU with many other things into a single chip; _(S)ystem (o)n a (C)hip.) is what is doing everything else to make something more out of it than just a huge illegible table / spreadsheet of 1s and 0s. This is also a kind of a part of why laptop webcams suck so hard and still in 2023 look like they just gave up in the mid 00s, despite stand alone webcams have gotten so much better and even tiny phone selfie cams having gotten so good. Because they don't have that dedicated hardware to do that image processing. So the webcams are usually either just a sensor on a long cable, with a dirt cheap little usb device at the other end for processing - or the whole thing is a tiny modified usb 2.0 webcam device. A tiny polyamide tape ("flex") pcb crammed in behind the screen bezel. And with the next to zero space for them in modern laptops, with minimal bezels and screen/lid depth, there is very little in the way of processing hardware that can actually fit in there. That is certainly not to say laptop webcams couldn't be a bazillion times better for incredibly little cost. Not talking hundreds of kopecks, but a couple of bucks extra. At least for laptop manufacturers like Samsung, Huawei, Sony etc, that make both industry leading sensors and image processing chips in-house so they wouldn't have to pay another company for anything beyond the base cost of making the chips. Modern laptop processors are also SoCs, with quite powerful graphics processors, so it wouldn't take much more than will to make the cams better. But - as long as everyone agree to just keep their laptop webcams really sh1t, no one is making that first move - then it remains a non-competition fareaand none of them even have to try. A shame really. Imagine the sales volume competitive edge a sub-$1k decent allrounder laptop would have, even if they just implemented a webcam performing about par with the selfie cam of a samsung S7. Or an Iphone 6.
As long as you use a secondary microphone, I would say that the front face the camera looks a little bit better than the back facing camera for video. But if you use a secondary camera, no one would probably really notice anything too bad
I had the predecessor to this phone, the galaxy A03s, it is a very good phone for the price you pay and the camera on it was good during the day. But it was barely useable to take photos in low light settings. While more higher end phones can handle photos at night, it's where these budget phones fall short.
