The remote Atulie'er Village, which is known as ‘Cliff Village’, is in southwestern China’s Sichuan province. Villagers need to climb down an 800-metre-high cliff to go to school or even go to hospital to give birth. Recently 84 households in ‘Cliff Village’ relocated to their new apartments.

So thats how our grandparents went to school
@@xa-1216 😐uhh
My grandparents walked to school for like 5km everyday
my parents wrote with charcoals
idk if it's true or not tho😂 but one thing that's true is that she woke up around 5 and went to gaze the cows and came back ,cooked for the family and went school with one note book.
My mom walked 12km every morning to go to school with a stool on her back, cause her school didn't have chairs. Woke up at 5:00 A.M. to get to her 7:00 A.M. class.
All the people commenting their families' stories like bro we didn't ask this comment was supposed to be a joke
And when you finish climbing up or down from there you forget something...
And then you go up and realise it has been in your back pocket the whole time
@@hairyputter5363 lol
*You're pregnant, climbed down the cliff, gave birth, climbed up feeling so happy, and you forgot the baby.*
If I forgot my phone I’ll be like ok now I got two
Lol
The next generation will soon face a lot of “when I was your age” lecturings
these people genuinely had to live the “how i had to go to school” meme
Hahahahahahahah yes.
Well considering they had to climb up and down almost a 1km cliff I think they are entitled to
Yep, this is the only time these comments are acceptable. Mad respect to these beautiful people.
And with all the rights💪🏽
Wish there were more pictures of the village rather than just the stairs. I can't even imagine there to be 84 households there since I can't see how big it is up there.
You are right.
I wanted to see the village too. To be able to see what makes it so nice up there that they deal with this. I imagine the view is breathtaking!
Probably because most reporters looked at the ladder staircase and decided "nope" or their stamina gave out halfway up the mountain
You can search for Szechuan Cliff Village to find articles about this type of mountain cliff villages. There are government funds given to promote tourism and poverty alleviation, as you can see from the subsidised furniture given to this family.
czcams.com/video/CEwIHNNJZvo/video.html here, this video shows how it is up there even tho not a lot
“Mom, I’ll be back tomorrow morning”
“Where are you going?”
“Left my phone in the car”

Young C they don’t have a phone much less a car. You saw their living conditions
Ican’tthinkofaname oof ITS A JOKE, A JOKE
@@icantthinkofanameoof4792 how do I know. Most people who live in bad conditions still have a phone. A phone is cheap and in China cheaper than buying some regular clothes.
They should still build a 7-11 store up there once everyone's gone and claim it as the worlds first inconvenience store!
This is gold rofl
I feel like you've had that up your sleeve for years and have been holding it for the perfect moment, which finally happened

Turn it into a tourist destination and let the former residents make money from the tourist. You know there are a lot of people who would go to visit. The vistas are fantastic!
yes, they did. and some villagers work "back" home :D
And make it the 2nd mountain graveyard
there would be so much litter and it would disturb it...
True. Especially hikers and adventure seekers
No, China won't allow isolated people to do their own thing.
They are afraid of it.
These people were forced to relocate.
Another reason for us to be grateful for what we have
many people pay gym for exercise, they have it free.
Let's think about who built the ladders
And how did their ancestors move up there to build a village in the beginning?
Local government
ktkska 888 probably to avoid war, you know war is very often in China, it can last few hundred years, and only about 400 years of peace

I hope the relocation is going well for the villagers.

Dude, these are Juiger Muslims forcibly resettled by the Communist Party. They were kicked off their ancestral farmlands.
Looks like they moved them into projects. I'm willing to bet that in a few years their "new" homes will be full to the brim with parasitic relatives and there will be big drug problems etc. Their remote mountain village will probably look idyllic in comparison. Let's hope I'm wrong.
And here we are..
still complaining about slow internet connection
no wifi service
Not an issue here.
I'm not
@@DrifterD oh wow, such ignorance
No one is forcing them to live there.. They can just stop living there if they want to. And they're not complaining. It's their own choice. So I don't consider complaining about not having an Internet connection bad. Everyone has a different life and lifestyle. You can't compare their lifestyle with ours because it's way too different.
Just imagine how they climbed before the stairs were built. Must have been very dangerous times for them to decide to settle down in such a place
I've read several articles about this village, and for many years--decades---they had to climb up and down on a bamboo ladder! The steel stairs was built quite recently, but I'm glad to see the villagers have mostly moved to a lower level. Sure couldn't be any emergency services going up there if anyone gets hurt!
There are reasons to want to be away from the mainstream
Stairs were there before. The steel ones replaced old wooden ones
I imagine it was safer away from the populace at one point. That is why you choose a fortified position.
_Imagine how difficult it must be to even think about using those steel stairs when it is raining or it is too hot_
_I'm not from China but this looks like one of the toughest lifestyle. My wishes for y'all_ 🙏❤️

A lot of admiration for all those who endured that all these years. Happy to hear that they plan on resettling. I can only imagine how hard it's for them to think how much they'll miss home. But it's for the best. Especially the kids and the elderly. Much love from your neighbour :)
Actually it is a natural castle. Old days people could protect themselves against the enemy easily.

I can't imagine if pregnant mothers slipped their feet off when they go down
You know that it could happen to non pregnant people too. 🤦🏾♂️
bigbraz Yeah, but the point is that a non pregnant woman can most times catch herself by the railing. It’s a “little” harder to do so when you’re pregnant, seeing as you carry an extra 15 kg.
@@noctisluxus did you not see people wearing backpacks? 🤦🏾♂️....... Don't mind me, I'm just trolling you man.
bigbraz Yes but pregnancy and back packs are very different. The backpack hasn’t been worn for months but the child has been there exhausting the women for months. It’s obviously going to be harder.
Noctis how do you know what the point is?:o
Progress....? The village looked like it was situated in a spectacular area! They had to leave to go to an apartment block that looked depressing! :(
The steel stairs is an improvement over what the villagers used to climb---I've read articles about this village in the past, and they used to climb up and down a bamboo ladder, far narrower than this steel one, and almost too shaky to use in any kind of strong wind.
I'm glad to see they're mostly all moved/moving to a lower level with much easier access to all services and shopping.
Hope they are able to preserve the village too
tf you really are everywhere now

At least the historical value,
This must have been a sad and relieving time for them all.

It's a hassle for a community to live like that, but it's heavenly for hermits.

With the way modern society going and where it's headed, living in a place like this sounds pretty tempting.
It's probably heartbreaking to live their home but at same time it's much safer, they lived there most of the lives now they have to go and live in a new place
Just imagine before they built that steel staircase. They probably had a wood one, i would imagine that would be a lot less sturdy .
I would imagine there was no staircase and only the bravest men went down:)

Also invading armies and bandits, which is why the villagers move there in the first place.
I still wondering how they ended up in there in the first place..🤔🤔
Protection from ancient wars and raiders.
The No. 1 question is How they ended living up there !? That's amazing
To avoid wars probs
Easy to defend, and out of sight out of mind would be my only guesses.
Imagine delivering a package
Just throw them up like the delivery guys always do
But it’s pretty easy when you have a package to ship. Just throw it from the top
Imagine being the package , and dying.
The delivery guy shouts: " I've put it down here. F#ck you! come and pick it up yourself."
I bet grab food don’t want to serve them.
Now that these villagers have resettled into their new homes, they should renovate and rent out their mountain homes to travellers for airbnb. Tons of people would go!
Dont show them the ladder
"With mountain view, sunrise and sunset view"
And the village would be destroyed, not that the village were developed though 🤔
Likely the Chinese government is in charge of their old homes (please correct me if I'm wrong).
@@mando074 probably not it depends. Sometimes their old homes are taken down so the village gets reforested and returns back to nature. Sometimes the family keeps it, especially if the elderly still live there. It varies but usually, the government won't build resorts or anything of that kind. It would be difficult here because bringing supplies up would be an exorbitant amount of work.
Lol imagine climbing down only to realize you forgot your phone up there
Wow, I want to see more. How big is the village. Whats is the economy and how did they get in and out of village before tgey build the ladder or was wooden ladders used. I would love to know more.
I don't know but I'm having anxiety watching the stairs 😣😣😣
Same I'm thinking about wind and the stairs lol. I'm so glad they got a new home.
Whoever wants to keep the culture going could go and live on the cliff his/herself. I am sure you will love the fresh air.
The culture there is only poor, from generation to generation
Who are you to judge their lifestyles? They are infinitely healthier and stronger than our weakened sheltered bodies.
I hike a lot with bags that are heavier than my bodyweight, I’m young but it takes a toll on my body even with protective gear. I see people who are older than me who do the same thing in a worse state than me. There is no need to make your life harder for the sake of culture.

I feel like anywhere else in the world, if you were going to live in a place like this, would have thought to make a pully system for an elevator or something. Making an 800 meter ladder actually seems more complicated.
That gives "dying on this hill" a whole new meaning.
Why was a village built up there in the first place? The absurdity of it blows my mind
I happy that they have given homes in a normal land, that ladder looked very dangerous,
If it was in the US they would have to make it handicap accessible.
And beef up the structural integrity too. Those stairs would not be able to support the average weight of a US citizen.
My fear of falling down the stairs and my fear of heights are shook right now
This brings a whole new meaning of do not cross that bridge
I feel bad but I like how the kids rly want to go to school, they do anything to go to school. In America, I’m just saying, people can ride the bus and parents take them in cars and they be skipping classes
Because they don’t want to be in school, yes i understand what you mean and it’s very unfortunate. The difference between first world countries and countries where education is a privilege is that in first world countries, children are basically forced to go to school not that it’s a bad thing at all but simply some people really don’t care for it. While where it is a privilege they usually have to really want to go to get the education.
