- In this video I am exploring the rural areas of Hunan and Guizhou Provinces. It is all about the ordinary life of the locals in the area, especially farmers. They harvest vegetables in the remote areas and come to the cities by train to sell it. It's an amazing experience to be surrounded by so many farmers.

I just notice that even in such rural villages in China, the streets and alleys are almost spotlessly clean and hardly see any rubbish. Together with the crystal clear water canals and tall mountains in the background, it looks picturesque actually. These are places that foreigners like us won't know how to get there since it's not on the usual tourist routes. So I really appreciate such vlogs by local tourists like Yan and others who know their own country better and show us another charming side of China other than Shanghai, Beijing, etc
To visit such places, just use the youtube or google it. Then, you can plan from there. Be adventurous. While in China, plan each trip there and then. All the best.
In the past 10 years, the government have invested a lot in paving all the roads in pretty much all the villages.

Im just another random person from the US, but something I really enjoy about this video is that it’s focused on the immediate living situation of these people. No focus on political systems, no fear mongering, no “othering”. China is a massive country with a massive population, but its so hard to find videos like this that show the day in the lives of people without all the extra baggage that comes with discussing China in the US. I’d love to see more videos of this nature. Rural, suburban, urban, I’ll take it. Just keep doing what you’re doing.
But if the Chinese government fix a "happiness index" in every household; the system how so far reach them can retain them there for productivity in the land itself

2.... such a nice & CLEANED RAILWAY with no stickers on walls, in Indian railway, every where can be found "stickers" stick on wall, written like "come here, i'm the spiritual and powerful", i can cure or give treatment(spirit) your all problem like "Marriage problems, Law problem, love problem etc.,& "Gutkha (tobacco) " will be found spit on the walls of the railways.
3... when these people can drive themself because their Good Health, why Govt. not issue Driving License ?

More than 70% of the world is like that. Hard working people with no complaints in life daily struggle, but still smile n ready to help with all the warmth! So much to learn n get inspired from. We always take things for granted when living in a comfortable life. Seeing all those silver-haired people rushing around earning for their life I couldn't stop tears from welling out from my eyes. Highest tribute to them for upholding their dignity at such old age.

@@peaceleader7315 yes there is. dont know whether those elderly at the beginning have that or not, but even if they have, farmers tend to plant and sell their products.
When the moment i saw so many uncles and aunties carry their goods getting out of the hall to the train. I really can’t help myself for crying. It reminds me of my grandfather and grandmother who used to do the same to earn money to raise the whole family for kids. Asian parents and grandparents are really do the best with their whole life for their kids. I miss my grandfather and grandmother. Blessing all elderly in the world!
I'm from Taiwan in my 40s. I cry so much watching this video and I don't really know why. I love the smiling faces and kind words of the elderly in this video... It brings so much warmth and delightfulness to my heart. I wish the politicians would stop sensualizing political disagreement and promoting hatred among people here in Taiwan. I feel culturally and emotionally close to the mainlanders...and I hope we'll reunite as one big family one day....

It is amazing that the government provide such economical transportation for farmers. It's cheap and convenient and good for environment removing the need for many trucks.
Actually the government have paid the tickets for farmers to help them sell their farm products , the tickets almost free
If the government provides retiring benefit for these elderly people, they will not have to work hard to support themselves in 70s.

@@jt-tttmy country(SEA) we have retiring schemes whereas there one small portion of money deducted from our monthly salary and contributed into the scheme(+yearly incentive from gov investment). Do you know there is 8 out 10 retiree depleted the retirement fund within 20 month?
I found the Chinese gov encouraging the elder and senior folk to self reliant is much more efficient, at least they know money is hard to earn therefore they won't spend foolishly.
I almost shed tears while watching this video. They are over 70 years old, yet still hardworking, carrying loads of things to sell. Huge respect to all the Chinese grandparents. May they always have the great strength to work and lead a happy life ahead. Working for these good old grandparents are not just about money, it's also a form of exercising, socializing, all in harmonic ways.
They may not get the best phone, but they get the beautiful landscape, fresh air and clean rivers.
They may not get the biggest house, but in return they get the peaceful and friendly neighbors.
They may not eat the most expensive food, but in return, they get organic, wholefood and good companion to enjoy the food together.

I used to hear some unkind things said about Chinese people and China when I was younger. But I never paid much attention to that. In fact, I've always loved watching Chinese movies and admiring the Chinese people. They seem so charming and endearing to me.
China has such a rich and impressive history. The way their country is organized and run is truly remarkable, even from ancient times. I find China to be an amazing and fascinating place.

If you want to have a deep understanding of China outside of China, you need to put aside politics. Foreign media have too many biases against China. When you come to China and look at China, you must connect it with politics. Everything in China is related to politics.

Won't lie, I am following this channel to explore a place I sadly never will be able to due to disability and seeing it all is beautiful, even parts that are ordinary or rough. Seeing people as they are is always beautiful. (Also thanks to this channel I've been told that my pronunciation of many Chinese words is impressive, I hope to continue learning!)
Seeing the farmers/villagers lifting their produce and traveling bring tears to my eyes. They’re so sweet and dignified while working hard and getting older year after year. Thank you for showcasing such sweet moments outside our modern world.

actually when you think of how they live their life, close the nature but definitely not poor or dirty, not rich but don’t need to stay up night think about your job, your loan, your bills, much more real social and caring neighbourhood. They may not be rich but they are definitely more happier than urban folks.

This is the first video of this channel that I have seen. It has affected me so so deeply - I'm crying as I type this. At the same time I am so very happy to be back in real China - the China I love, but which I have not seen for 15 years - and now, as I enter my 80th year, I may never see it again. So I want to thank you for showing the rest of the world what a wonderful place China is, when you can travel into the country-side, away from those crowded. soul-less big cities. You said the village in Guizhou (at the end of the video) was like a wonderful place to retire - I totally agree with you. I would love to spend the last few years of my life here, amongst this interesting, human-scale architecture. I loved the Huizhou style when I was wandering through Anhui, but this style here is almost as nice - just no so famous. I am so touched by the way you present the lives of people in this video; you have done excellent work. Thank you; I will certainly watch other episodes.

It’s about a loan officer (FL) who moves to a government designated cultural village, and falls in love with a traditional craftsman (ML), along with addressing the plight of the traditional crafts people in the village having to surmount the problems of a lack of interest in traditional crafts. This is a public benefit train. The tickets are so ridiculously cheap that the railway will never make any money, and will never even cover their expenses. The idea is to give rural people an affordable way to travel to market towns so that they can earn a living.

Yes, they should continue to innovate and perhaps have racks for the produce so that more produce can be carried with space for the passengers. Maybe I should write to President Xi to suggest this renovation. China exist for the people and not the elite. This kind of government infrastructure for Buyi's profit is invisible in western countries. The China system combines the advantages of the capital book system and the socialist system
@@feifei987 Incorrect analysis, the Chinese combined the innate quality of being traders at heart and also the practical means of survival. Not any system can defined them or any "ism" will categorised them. Simplicity is the key and not ideology and hence it is socialism with Chinese characteristics.
If China's sole concern is to make money instead of providing affordable public infrastructure to the masses, then the subways and buses in China would not cost a ridiculously cheap 2-3Yuan. And high speed rail would never be provided. The cost of building it is astronomical but the fares are still relatively affordable compared to those I've travelled on in Europe. However, while cheap, the trains are very stable compared to the wobbly ones I had experienced in Europe. As a SE Asian travelling in China, I have witnessed the transformations there since the early 2000s when I first step foot in China. AS much as western media say shit about China and the communist govt, there's no denial it has lifted almost a billion people out of poverty and the homeless are provided with homes of their own, and those with dilapidated houses or entire poor neighborhoods have been rehomed in houses with basic necessities, even in the remotest area say small town in the Taklamankan desert. These days you go to say Shanghai for eg, the streets are so quiet, because most transportation tunning on diesel engines have been replaced with electric buses, cars, and scooters, and honking is strongly discouraged. Public hygiene has also improved greatly.
One thing I like about your videos, Yan, is that you're never in a tearing hurry to say, but always clear in your cadence. Xi has given so much to the Chinese that hats off to this great progressive man. He is akin to Kejriwal of the AAP party of India. This video shows how healthy, in mind, spirit and body your rural folks are. This is probably the result of being perennialy happy. I grew up in a rural area in China, where the mountains and people are so familiar with my hometown. I can't say that I am not homesick. I went to a mountain area with a friend in Victoria this morning, I just realized the landscapes have so much details in my home country. I laughed so hard when my friend complained about how flat and boring the country roads are while driving. Australia is so quiet and peaceful, without much excitement. It has quite different landscapes from China. I was too critical of my home country until I realized that many people love and want to know more about it.
Brought tears to my eyes as it reminds me of my grandmother's struggles to support us. I stand proud today only because of my grandmother's hardwork, for without her i am a nobody.
Most Chinese people even the elderly are very hard working and never have to depend on others except their own children to survive. These old folks are amazingly healthy and strong despite their frail looking frames. Poor as they may be, the level of contentment are pretty obvious on their wrinkled faces. 其实很多老人是因为几十年前就养成的勤俭吃苦的习惯，而且也不愿意跟随儿子、孙子适应新的房子、新的生活方式，他们的儿子、孙子基本都不贫穷的，因为现在中国有太多的方式摆脱贫困了。

Loved this video ! It appeared on my page by chance . I served in the British Army in Hong Kong from 1969 till 1972 and loved it there . The nearest I got to China was Lo Wu train station and a small village called Lau Chi Kok which had the border running through the middle of it . When we served on the border , usually for three weeks at a time , we had to observe the countryside all the time . I come from a small market town called Welshpool in Mid Wales , and it was fascinating to compare my area with the Hong Kong border land . Thank you so much for the video .

Through your lens we get introduced to a China that is well hidden from the purview of most westerners.
Even though these villagers are predominantly elders what satisfies most is that they seem universally fit and active because of their farming endeavours.
And they have something precious that few of us in the west get to experience..a vibrant, socially-connected community life that brings respect and dignity to all.

My family is from Hunan! I was born outside Mainland China and have been "urbanised" for a couple of generations. Though I don't have a single "rural" hair left on my body, something in this video still speaks to me. These folks live a hard life (look at the size and weight of those baskets), but they are at least well-fed and well-clothed, and their faces are smiley and relaxed. Lovely people, I hope their lives are improving every day. Thank you for the upload!
As an Indian, I am so jealous of China, since we are almost Identical in many ways like population, ethnicity. I havent seen a single town or billage in India as this organised, clean, disciplined. We indians mostly compares ourself with Pakistan and defends our pride, but if we compare with China, we were nowhere near to you, be it GDP, per capita, etc. We Indians needs discipline and Cleanliness 😔

I have travelled twice to China, in 2014 and again in 2019. Both times we had such wonderful experiences meeting the people, so friendly towards foreigners, laughing with us and taking photos. We travelled without guides and made our way everywhere, on planes and trains. I absolutely love China and the Chinese people.❤

This village reminded me of my last visit to my grandma's village in China..I remembered watching ladies washing at the riverside. My dad bought a washing machine for my grandma and i got to use it during my visit years ago. Every morning, they cooked breakfast like having a feast in my grandma's house .
This made me feel so proud to be a Chinese, healthy, hard working, happy and so friendly
Cheap public transportation is so important to these people living in the mountains. Now only the elderly are left in the countryside. Although these elderly people are very hard-working, they can at least live a self-reliant life. The industrious and optimistic nature of Chinese farmers touched me. Thank you bloggers for sharing their lives.
This is a train schedule specially reserved by the government to make it easier for farmers to sell their agricultural products. This train has been losing money, and I have read many reports about this train.
Sadly, they'll all be gone in 15 years.

Yes it's a very different life than in the West where lack of movement and trashy foods contribute to early deaths. The quality of food grown in the countryside, the labor involved, all contribute to a better more productive life. The have one of the most healthy cuisine, vegetables are predominant and atho most love meat, it's used and eaten in sensible proportions, with health giving aromatics like ginger, chili, garlic, green onions

Village life in China is full of cultural and historical memories which are hard to find elsewhere outside China.......People there are just happy even though they do not have the luxury of a modern life in the city. A video of this nature definitely command a significant applauses from the viewers.....! Well done Yan......!
India is also equally populated as China but in this video, I am seeing clean and properly laid roads, nearly empty, good train station and also good train. Even while boarding the train, didn't see any chaos, fighting, bad mouthing etc. In India, you don't see this.. roads are dusty or even if they are tarred, pot holes everywhere, rubbish consisting of plastic, paper etc everywhere, tons of stray dogs.. chaotic train stations and mad rush to enter trains. Its crazy.. People always thought it was due to uncontrolled population but this video in really eye opener for those defending India's infra set up.

You do know half of China does not have overpopulation. Most people moved to the costal regions where the jobs are at. So half or more of china are not crowded.
Go to one of the coastal regions and you would be seeing more issues.

But the point is, in China, as I see in this video, clean roads, clean river, people living peacefully, discipline in less populated place or villages but in India, there is worst situation not only in Cities but in villages, its even more worst. Dusty, pot holed & not laid roads for decades, no proper waste management system, no cleanliness, noisy, chaotic train station etc etc.
it depends on the state and sub region in india . most south indian villages are clean and don't have pan masala . don't generalize all of india and as if you have seen all of chinese villages

CGTN did a handful of mini documentaries on trains running in remote or difficult to get to areas. the train conductor knows all the daily riders and acts as guardian to look after the schoolkids, that is rare in western society.
The English media is in the hands of Westerners, and the rise of China is a serious threat to their interests, so the Western media make a lot of fake news about China, hoping to have a chance to come to China to see for themselves, which is definitely not what the Western media reported.

Wow, the ages of those villagers selling their produce, travelling by train with those weights. Incredible! And the hospitality where you were in invited to join them to have something to eat. A constant that is seen everywhere you have taken us on your videos. I wonder how they managed to get their produce out before trains came along. The quality of the food was very high and would put some growers in the west to shame. And so fresh as well. Long days. Yet, they enjoy the 'fruit' of their labours!! These rural farmers are, in my opinion the heart and soul of China; their work ethic and self-help, entrepreneurial spirit is exemplary; excellent video.
I agree 100%. I lived in China for 6 years (2014-2019), and spent a great deal of time traveling the countryside and villages. Completely different from the cities. Village people are a hardy bunch, who do for themselves or with help from family and neighbors. The village is a living, breathing organism, dependent on the sum of the parts for the success of the whole. It was such a quiet, peaceful way of life that I actually dreaded going back to the city (I lived in Shenzhen). The cities are nice, quite a lot to see and experience and of course the food selection is practically unlimited. But for sheer peace of mind and tranquility, it has to be the village. Being a gweilo (in my case a white westerner), often I was the first white person they had ever seen. My appearance in a village caused an instant stirring, many people would come out to see me, and through my guide/friend would ask endless questions about where I lived, what was life like, etc. It was like being surrounded by a group of super-curious children, with their shy, innocent inquisition. Just writing all this makes me miss it so much, even though I now live in another beautiful SEAsia country. Happily, I will visit China again in a couple of months, and I'm so looking forward to it.
No amount of self-helping can make a change in their lifes if there are no infrastructures supporting them.
These places have trains, roads, and most importantly, reliable high speed internet and telecomes.
The poors in the west stay poor because they dont have any of these, they claim benefits to benefits and stay locked in.

But they are all older. Where is the youth to help them and eventually take over?

Look how these elderly gentlemen stand so straight and walk without canes or walkers. Their life is hard, but somehow seems to keep them much healthier than here in the western world.

Amazing elderly folks still trying to be useful and independent financially. The great capacity for hardwork is a basic and important Chinese characteristic and that has made the country so strong today. It seems like they are also enjoying the routine despite having to carry those heavy weights. Thanks Yan for yet another interesting video.

I love the usually unseen experience. I can't imagine how hard it was to watch them carry all that. Just watching through a screen I have the empathy to help because they are so kind.
The place she went to was Guizhou, the poorest province in China, which is basically full of mountains and few plains. The places I watched her videos were almost all underdeveloped provinces on the border with China. The main population of China is concentrated in China. The east is much better, so sometimes what I show you is not mainstream, because I have worked in China for 5 years, and the places she explores are very remote. It can be said that few people go to places. This is only the 1% of China. Less than a few, more than 95% live in the more comfortable central and eastern areas. It’s a pity that she deliberately chose these areas to show you.

I lived in a area near Tongren (mentioned in the video) about 13 years ago for half a year. I remember there being a ton of stuff to do in the area. Really want to go back and see how the area has changed.

@@lisasou95The fact is that many old people volunteer to work. Most families can afford to support the elderly, even if your assets are not enough. Because children not supporting the elderly is a crime that can be prosecuted in China. China was a poor country just a few decades ago. They lived in a time when only constant hard work and frugality could lead to a good life, and even though they are now better off, they still cannot shake off the fear of poverty, which is called "poor fear" in China. The unwillingness to stop and feel happy constantly working, excessive frugality, pathological habits of eating leftovers, and constant accusations that future generations are less thrifty are a common problem in China. This is something that people in countries that have been developed for a long time cannot understand. I now live in Australia, where my aunt and uncle live with their children. Their children have high incomes and want their parents to enjoy life. But my uncle and aunt would not stop planting vegetables, picking up garbage, accusing me of not being thrifty enough, and complaining about the exchange rate of the Chinese yuan and the Australian dollar every day.

You are right , the train called “ 扶贫列车” which means a train is to help farmers to sell their goods to city without agent fees, so those farmers can earn their money and buyers can get 100% organic food with cheap prices, win win , without capitalism
