  • These cars were known for their comfort, spacious interiors and silky-smooth six-cylinder engines. Hopefully, this video will give you a good sense of what it's like to drive and ride in one. This particular car also has power steering.

Stunning example. A teacher of mine at secondary school had a Wolseley Six which he gave me a lift in a couple of times. It was the smoothest and most comfortable car I've ever travelled in. I've driven that route a few hundred times BTW!

My Dad had this car in Damask red with very comfy red velour seats and centre armrests in the front. It was easy and relaxing to drive with the very smooth 3 speed Borg Warner auto transmission. It looked stunning and there was so much room in the front and the back, and the boot too. All in all a superb family car.

My mother owned one new in a burnt orange / brown colour. Fabulous comfortable car and the automatic drive was unbelievably smooth

Beautiful car. So nostalgic. My very first car was an Austin1800, so roomy and comfortable, cut tyres out all the time so got rid of it.
Bought myself an Austin Maxi after that and despite all the negative stuff about BL cars from that time, it was my favourite car I've ever owned.

Lovely Car, I have fond memories of travelling in two different Wolseley Six’s as a child(on two different occasions)one was a manual and the other was an auto, both very comfortable cars.
Yours looks immaculate, sounds nice too, very smooth, thanks for the “ride”.👍

My old man used to own this car and doesn’t stop raving on about it. Showed him this and brought back memories. Would it be possible to just come and view this car?

Maxi E series engine with two exra cylinders. Princess 2200 HLS auto was also a very nice car to drive, I liked them.

Yes based on the 1500. Australia used a larger Six in the Marina 2.6 (based on the E series 1750 4 cylinder engine; same bore, larger stroke).
The Marina Six can be seen here on CZcams.

Oz always had the best variants, would loved to have been 20 something in 1970 there.

    Fantastic colour.
I've got a little Wolseley Hornet but eventually I'd love to expand my collection to include an ADO16 or ADO17, they just look practical and comfy for relatively little money.

It would have been nice to see it on the open road doing the national speed limit

we had one as a family car back in the mid eighties. Ferried u to Devon and back with no troubles. The back seats were knackered so mum put bright purple fluffy seat covers over them to hide the marks and holes. Unfortunately the amount of fluff that pulled off the covers and covered our clothes required liberal use of a brushing after each trip out. The covers became so threadbare that the exposed netting ended up looking like an old pair of womens tights!

My father had one (white) which replaced successive Austin 1800's. That then got replaced by a yellow Rover 3500 V8 (SD1 version), then another (blue) and then another (darkish metallic grey).

The Wolseley Six was and still is perhaps the only front-wheel-drive car with a) an inline-6 engine, and b) that it's mounted transverse. I cannot think of any other FF layout car that has an inline-6 under the hood, especially when mounted transverse.

    • @paulqueripel3493
      @paulqueripel3493 Před 7 měsíci +1

Princess 2200, Volvo S60/80, both transverse straight 6s. Austin and Morris also sold lower specced versions of the car in this video with the same engine.
Citroen Traction Avant could be bought as an inline 6 as well, not transverse as far as I know.

@@paulqueripel3493 In Australia, the same car was dubbed the Austin X6 Kimberley and Tasman.
