6/80's were always my favorite. I had two after passing my UK test in 1966. I had wanted one since I was 5 (or so) I had two Series 1 6/90's and three A90 Westminsters. The 6/80's were slow and I wondered how the cops ever caught anybody excepting they were chasing A30's or Minors. I still wish I had one for all that. An amazing machine to drive at 17. Thanks for this nostalgic look back in time.

As a hirer of big WOLSELEY 6/80 Police cars, I confirm mr Cox's comment, that the film shows only big six cylinder Police cars both marked and unmarked 6/80s seen are distinguished by the 'split windscreen' and huge chrome grille. (See them at vintagehoot.uk ) The 6/90 has a curved screen and smaller grille. Met police did not employ the smaller 4 cylinder cars.

2:12 Spencer Street, Southall. Castle(?)-hauled down express out of Paddington; the huge MAN gasholder was demolished in about 2020.

I doubt whether many, or even any, of the cars in this film were actually real police cars. Despite an apparently London setting, RPB407 is a Surrey number, JCG606 is a Hampshire number, and XPC898 (Surrey again) was a well-known movie-star car which appeared in many films made up until about 1960, about the last of which was "The League of Gentlemen". As most of the footage dates from no earlier than 1956, judging from the mark 2 Ford Zephyrs parked in the background, then all of the 6/80s would have been way too old to be in service by that date.

Sorry to be a pedant!... the ones 'at speed' in the earlier part of the clip and around Hatton Garden (JCG 606 etc.)are Wolseley 6/80s... not Wolseley 1500s... XPC 898 at 6:15 is a 6/90... this specific car turns up in lots of late 50s early 60s films! (example The Wrong of the law)...

What a pity...no sound! The noises made by these cars, engines revving, gearboxes howling, tyres squealing, the police bell ringing, it's all part and parcel of the visual and aural experience.
