There are a ton of interesting sports video games that never saw the light of day, from NFL games meant to compete with Madden that actually looked promising, to a successor to NCAA 14, to the infamous NBA Elite 11, to some other games you probably never heard of. It's quite the experience to look back at these unreleased games, and it's actually quite suprising to see just how much information you can dig up on these games.

The fact that nfl retro football never came out and most of its info is lost right now is a massive tragedy. Apparently Shigeru Miyamoto was somehow disappointed in the game as well as most of what they were working on, which led them to develop metroid prime
One of the more interesting canceled games has to be Road To Sunday. Sony/SCEA's attempted reply to Blitz The League in 2005. Would have also had an open-world exploration element to the football story mode.
So we could've had NFL Retro Studio's Football or NFL 2K, but instead we got a broken piece of shxt with roster updates every year.. 😭😭

Speaking of cancelled video games, has there ever been word on what was going to become of NFL 2K6? We know that had to be in development even before EA picked up the license for good, would like to hear about the story of what was going to be featured in NFL 2K6 and how they were going to build off NFL 2K5.
They made all pro football 2k8, aka the best football game ever made
@Taj James the mechanics are phenomenal and better than any game. It's a shame it couldn't use NFL teams because then it would've definitely had a full franchise mode

Crushed Baseball 2004 Would've Been Great
I genuinely look forward to when these come out. Love your channel, dude. Ever considered looking at the expansion mode of All Star Baseball 04? The game itself is no MVP Baseball, but it has an amazing expansion mode.
I LOVED that mode as a kid. I'm surprised The Show hasn't stolen that for Franchise mode yet. (Then again, The Show has neglected Franchise mode for the past half decade, so...)
So sad some of these were never released. That "Crushed Baseball '04" game seemed like it would've been the MLB version of NHL Hitz 2002
The NFL exclusive for the Gamecube sounds like it would've been a blast to play and the same goes for the baseball game with all those creative stadiums. I also remember the Arena Football game that was planned for the Atari Jaguar, but considering the Jaguar's controller has 15 buttons it was probably for the best that the game never got released.

Awesome video. Makes me wonder whatever happened to the Gamecube port of Nascar Thunder 2004. The console got Thunder 2003, and Chase 2005, but never 2004. Always struck me as odd.

If you ever need a video idea, you could always do the third competitor that nobody talks about in the short lived Madden vs 2k era is 989 sports and their NFL Game day series. Gameplay. I remember in the game they'd had players trash talk and actually swear while you could cheap shot players after the play.
The irony is that 211 had the same 'Jesus' glitch along with many others like getting stuck out of bounds, invisible players clipping, teleporting, to name a few.

Yoooo that Bobcats team. My first NBA game was Pistons vs Bobcats here in Charlotte during the 2010 season (only year they made the playoffs as the Bobcats before the Hornets rebrand). Took that team to the NBA Finals in 2K11.
There was a college football game with mike vick on the cover which would have been cool to own since I'm a VA Tech fan and id love to see some representation of our school

One of the few examples of a game canceled after an actual release is a sports video game! Ashes Cricket 2013 was so bad that they stopped selling it two days after release, and offered refunds to anyone who bought it.
I still have it in my steam library, like to think that it’s one of the rarer titles in my collection.

the Gamecube NFL game looks like what a previous gen Backbreaker could have been with an NFL licence, while the baseball game is pretty much The Bigs but even more ridiculous (I enjoyed The Bigs 2 to be fair)

High Heat was the best baseball series. It was for hardcore baseball fans. Had it all. 2003 was a classic.
