What makes for a good life?
I explore this question (thanks for the assist Dr. Waldinger) while also looking back at the year that was in 2021. I also open up about the past couple of years in the aftermath of Covid-19 and the pandemic, what "languishing" is and its effects on me, losing our family business during protests, creating opportunity from misfortune and finding reasons for optimism approaching the new year.
It is my sincere hope that you take this message to heart, emphasize good human relationships above all else and find your version of "the good life" in 2022.

Really needed this one. As someone who was able to put his head down and grit through the first 15 months or so of the pandemic only to finally have my mental wellbeing unravel as the community that kept me together before became unsupportive as my mental health waned. As of today I can barely make it out the door to run, whereas March 2020 to July 2021 I was able to run 100 plus mile weeks and be supportive and loving to my family and friends before fading. Community and purpose are what keeps us all going, as I have abandoned my community things really are falling apart for me. This is a lesson I know I need to learn, not that it makes it easier. Knowing we arent alone in struggle, even as isolated as we may feel, is just the fuel to keep going. Truthfully I have been suicidal and am barely hanging on but I want you to know that this gave me a little hope, and the sun came out for the first time in several days as I am typing this.

Ah Andrew, I’m really sorry to hear about your struggles. You definitely aren’t alone as I’ve heard from many people acknowledging their struggles with mental health as well. Find your people out there, keep doing your best to get outside and move…even if it’s just for 10-15 minutes. All the best to you this year. Cling to your people and community.

Life is too short to not say things you wanna say. We've never met, but I love ya man. I actually found trail running and ultra running because I stumbled upon one of your videos on CZcams a few years back. Then I fell deep down the CZcams hole watching Ultra Running videos. Don't question your calling in this life. You are an incredible story teller. That only happens because you are an incredible person. Again, we've never met but your kindness and love drips all over your videos. Your stories are authentic....thats what people connect with. We are actually connecting with you through them. It's been a unique season for sure. In my line of work (I'm a pastor) its been rough. Ive seen division like never before. People hurting people. Mental health issues have sky rocketed. But, like in Ultra running, we must continue to push through because I truly believe for something greater.
