@@vanilla5554 Its not his type of game, its an amazing game of its genre but Alan Wake 2 is better for streaming within a few videos or so. Baldur's Gate 3 will take forever like Zelda. I wouldnt expect them to finish it even if they choose to stream bcuz its a long game. JS, I appreciate this game being streamed more than all of the goty nominees personally.

Ilkka Villi (Alan's face model, performance capture actor, live action actor) and Matthew Porretta (Alan's voice) are SO. DAMN. GOOD. in this game. It's a damn shame that they got snubbed for a best performance nomination at The Game Awards. Here's hoping they get some recognition for their work at some other major award show.
oh damn, I absolutely had been thinking that was his voice actor in live action the whole time. I guess he does look pretty different than Darling in Control, but I just assumed it was the beard and hair lmao
Game awards is a cynical commercial and nobody takes it seriously. Don’t worry about it. They definitely won that shit for real.
Poets of the Fall (and their fictional band counterpart, Old Gods of Asgard) have been SHREDDING in Remedy games since Max Payne 2. Lake was friends with the lead singer of the band and asked them to write a song for the end of that game: "Late Goodbye". This was the band's very first single. Makes me very happy that they've continued to collaborate 😊

Alan's VA is an awesome singer in his own right. He sang a weird and fun 80's themed song in CONTROL called Dynamite as his character Dr. Casper Darling 😂 he's such a great actor

It's crazy that Baldur's Gate 3 might be in trouble taking the GOTY crown because of a musical number. I know Alan Wake 2 is more than that but it was so unique and ballsy to take such a risk and just nails it.
I doubt it to be completely honest. BG3 has a similar moment and it's not even part of the main story. Just an optional sidequest.
@@omnizenn4559 You're talking about "LIVES ALL MORTAL LIVES, EXPIRE. SOULS GO TO THEIR DOOM..." part right? That part was more similar to Rivers in the Desert from persona than Herald of Darkness.
I would LOVE for AW2 to win GOTY but i think Baldurs Gate will win it. Alan Wake 2 should have no trouble winning best Narrative, Music, Audio Design and Direction
Alan Wake 2 is already my personal game of the year and I’ve played everything this year (RE4, Zelda, Diablo, spider man) EXCEPT BG3, I’ll get around to it.
I predict Zelda will take the title though I didn’t enjoy it as much despite zelda being my favourite franchise.
Whatever the case I’ve been gaming since the 90’s and I don’t think we’ve ever had a year like this for gaming. The real winners in 2023 are all of us.
Baldur's Gate absolutely deserved the GOTY award. It was literally so good that other devs voiced the narrative of "don't hold the rest of us to that standard".

I've been watching a bunch of streamers react to "we sing" everyone loved it! hats off to Remedy, it is an amazing game and sequence
The Ashtray Maze and We Sing have cemented Remedy as one of the most creative passionate developers around, at least in my opinion.

The musical was Sam's Lake idea. Almost didn't happen, he fought for it to be there.
The lady that appears on the TV in the Zane cutscene is Jesse Faden, the protagonist of Control. Remedy really made a whole extended universe that works on "whatever bullshit we decide to write, we'll put in the story", and it's magnificent.
Jesse Faden, the literal janitor of whatever weird stuff Sam Lake can come up with, ha ha.
There's also a reference to Remedy's other game "Quantum Break". Tim Breaker's actor, Shawn Ashmore, was in that game and so was Jesse's actress Courtney Hope. On one of the boards by Tim in the Dark Place, he mentions a dream where he says he remembers the red-headed woman and that Door seems familiar, as his role is similar to the role Lance Reddick (RIP) played in Quantum Break, Martin Hatch.

This same exchange happened in the Dark Place when Alan met Casey in that alley. After this, Casey rushed out and was killed by the Dark Presence, prob. Then we got our flashlight and gun there

The funny part? It's not even the first time he's done it. Ashtray Maze in Control, and technically one area in the first game.
Thomas Zane is played by Ilkka Villi (Alan's face model, mocap and live-action) and the character uses his own voice. Whereas all the stuff he says as Alan is dubbed over by Matthew Porretta. Pretty cool bunch of performances
They have GOT to perform this song at the Game Awards. Right!? Keighley would be CRAZY not to arrange that.
Tim Breaker refers at 1:20:00 to Quantum Break. Another game by Remedy.
Mr. Door supposed to be played by Lance Reddic. But he died early this year. And Lance Reddic was also in Quantum Break. That's why Tim Break feels connected to Mr. Door somehow.
Because Breaker and Mr. Door are both coming from an another reality from Quantum Break.
Well, yes and not. Mr. Door is (most likely) supposed to be the Remedy verse counterpart for Mr. Hatch, but he technically isn't Mr. Hatch, as they have no rights to the IP of Quantum Break. Same goes for Alex Casey being Alex Casey instead of Max Payne.

I remember seeing an interview where Sam Lake, the creative director at remedy, said he was glad Alan Wake 2 took 13 years to get made because if they had managed to make it earlier it wouldn't have been this game and I couldn't believe that he could be glad about the hell his game had been in for so long until I got to the fucking rock opera. This rules so much and I'll be so mad if it doesn't win GOTY.
If they made the game earlier, we might have just played as Alan in The Dark Place. No Bright Falls. No connection to other Remedy games except for Max Payne. Basically it's like American Nightmare but longer.
BG3 will still take GOTY, simply because of the hype and its huge middle finger to the stagnating industry. But I can't see the world, where AW2 doesn't sweep most of the awards. Creativity, direction, graphics, narration in all of those aspects it is a major contender.
I’m glad it did take 13 years to make. Did you ever see the Alan Wake 2 demo that was released a few years ago? They were really about to go all out for the sequel.
@@coupdegrace2767 Well it already won critic's choice at the golden joysticks and since GOTY at the Game Awards is 90% critic's vote, I'd at least say AW2 has a lot better of a chance of winning than a lot of people think.

Ah yes, the episode EVERYONE waits for their favorite reactor to get so. I'm in the middle of a 3 hour lecture about sacred geometry and intrinsic number but I guess I can take an hour-and-a-half break from wringing my mind to watch you wring yours.
I think Tim Breaker when talking about his vivid dreams is about the Quantum Leap game (also made by Remedy) which the same actor is the lead character in.
I swear I remember them saying something about Quantum Break not technically being connected due to publishing (Microsoft being the QB publisher, Epic Games being the Alan Wake publisher). I could be misremembering but I think it's a similar thing which Max Payne being owned by Rockstar Games -- either way there's NO WAY you're going to have a character that is all about breaking time in one game and the same actor in another game being "Tim - e Breaker" and it not basically be the same guy. Just like Alex Casey IS May Payne but legally not due to rights, Tim Breaker totally IS Jack Joyce. Publishing rights are as wonky at the FBC, I swear to God lol
@@Kaspar.C0LDI believe Lake said in an interview that while QB rights are with Microsoft and we're always planned to be, there is an agreement that Remedy can freely hint and nudge at it, referring to it in their games. Just don't use the actual copyrighted material, and Microsoft is fine with it.
I mean, in the We Sing portion, there is a section with Shifter written on the floor, another reference to QB.
Right, like I said basically the same situation with Max Payne in that they can't blatantly name drop it but they can allude to it as much as they want. Like I said, he might not technically be Jack Joyce, but he's definitely Jack Joyce. Essentially Alan Wake, Control, and Alan Wake II are all canonically connected while Quantum Break and Max Payne aren't solely because of rights issues. Without those rights concerns, though, they certainly would be all connected. I've seen _a lot_ of people be confused on that specific technical detail, but I know in all the fans head-canon Alex is Max and Tim is Jack. Even the *real world* overlaps and "bureau of control" play into the lore if you catch my meaning. It's too meta lol @@CorporalCookie
Quantum Break is definitely connected, Mr. Door is definitely a Shifter (probably was replacing Martin Hatch due to the Lance Reddick passing away)
If you liked Alan Wake 2, you should definitely try out Control. There’s so many callbacks to it in this game.

I want to say thanks to sam lake for going against the people who said to remove from the game,this part with poets of the fall, It was the best part/ the most fan and enjoyable part and also very unique, i haven't seen again something like this in any other game, i loved it!! Thanx again Sam for not letting them remove that part and thanx poets of the fall for that great song!!!!! Its just amazing and love the electric guitar in it!!!! and also the other one with saga, the summoning was great too!!! Thumbs-up!!!!! 👍👍👍

It's neat that by the time you guys got to this section, the band Poets of the Fall/Old Gods of Asgard released the official versions of the songs and an official music video, too :)

1:06:40 glad you got that word of power! But yeah, you guys are still missing an echo or two in the area. The one by that police car is hard to get to as it is QUITE high up. Look for Alex Casey billboards. They often have an echo around/near them.
I forget if you get an achievement for finding and viewing all 6 Alex Casey billboard shadows, but they are VERY cool. James McCaffrey's brooding dialogue + Lake's face booming over this noir-heavy New York cityscape... It is essentially a lil tease for the upcoming Max Payne 1&2 remakes lol
