Review: 2020 Cadillac CT4-V - Flying Under the Radar

  • I spend a week with the 2020 Cadillac CT4-V with rear wheel drive and find that it's a really fun and enjoyable car both in corners and in a straight line. It's still not perfect, but it's a nice modernization and improvement over the ATS without losing any of the handling magic the ATS had. At its as-tested price of $52,165 it is competitive with the German competition, but the Genesis G70 and Cadillac's own CT5-V offer more for very similar money. What do you think of the Cadillac CT4-V? Thanks to Cadillac for providing this vehicle to review.

    Great review ! I own a CT4V since Sept 2021. Despite living in Montreal area with potential harsh winters, I got the RWD version to get the magnetic ride control which the AWD model doesn't have. I traded my 2018 Regal GS for this car because I wanted something smaller, lighter and more nimble and boy does the CT4V delivers. The CT4V puts the power down so well in its RWD version and drives no problem in snow and ice, currently equipped for winter with Continental Wintercontact TS830P. The magnetic ride suspension in tour mode makes the car comfortable on rough roads despite its rather short wheelbase. Even in track mode the shocks are compliant and zero body roll. Couldn't be happier !

      I'm debating RWD vs AWD living in NY. Are you still happy with your choice?

    • @alexh5343
      @alexh5343 Před rokem +4

      @@cultofmodernism8477 Yes very happy with RWD. Snow tires will be an absolute must in RWD if you are dealing with snow covered roads. The winter mode is quite efficient for the few times I got severe condition. In normal snow conditions with a few inches on the ground I drive it in touring mode. Never had to use sand bags in the trunk. Magnetic ride is not offered with AWD and provides a choppy ride on rough roads due to rather short wheelbase. Magnetic ride on the RWD is fantastic.

    they did so well on this considering its priced more like a budget A class or 2 series. It gets just about everything right for the price point. Honestly unless you're a hater trying to compare a CT4 to a Bentley cadillac really did well. the 10 speed unit having driven it multiple times is simply phenomenal and right in like with a ZF8 speed. Sadly people will not buy it because of the cadillac badge, if this has a merc or BMW badge on it people would be singing its praises.

      Slower than the. S3 for less money. Q50 3.0t and Redsport on lots go for less if you want more size, Kia stinger /g70 3.3t is undercutting this by a bit as well. It's kinda up there with options and of course the model 3 if you wanna annihilate this car in every way for less money. I think they should've given this 2.7 more character and or re engineered it to Rev higher it revs and sounds like a diesel truck at times.

      I can understand wanting to praise this car, but you are doing it, and Cadilac, a disservice by not calling them out when they can do better. It's got nothing to do with hate (for many people). The car simply cuts too many corners where it matters. if you think the trans is great, more power to you. However, based on what I saw here, and other places, I couldn't live with it.
      The M235 sport "coupe" is garbage, though the real couple is much better if a little dated. However, its engine/trans blows this car away.

For an $80k car the transmission was just sad. The paddle shifter responsiveness felt years behind the competition. It’s like Cadillac engineers didn’t drive a BMW or Porsche and just slapped in something off the shelf for their flagship.
    For comparison I test drove the BMW 5 series, Porsche Macan, Audi A4, and Cadillac CT6. The Cadillac transmission was not responsive in comparison to the other cars costing tens of thousands less.

      No one puts a V8 in a car this size. It would handle like a shopping cart with a kettle bell in the front.

      The CT’s-v is now the ct5-v black wing. That still has the supercharged v-8.

    Just get a TLX A-spec w SHAWD that cost less and has better reliability and resale value.

      Cadillac is trying to be what Pontiac (RIP) was. GM should have kept Pontiac. We could have had a new Firebird/Trans-Am, G8, G6, Solstice and MAYBE another GTO. Pontiac was the 'enthusiast brand' in my opinion.

      I used to daily drive a Lotus, but got married with a step-son thrown in on the deal. It killed me to admit it, but a tiny two seater was just not useable for a family man. I assumed that I was going to get an M3. But BMW killed the handling when they switched to the electric power steering. I bought an ATS-V because it handled better than the M3 and had more power.
      Only the Alpha Romeo is a better driver, but I wouldn’t trust the Alpha on long family road trips.
