  • The ULTIMATE Toyota Camry is here with the TRD edition. This Camry TRD is NOT all show and no GO. Toyota has taken their TRD engineering to make this the best performing Camry ever created. From it's wind tunnel tested bodywork, to it's lighter wheels and performance suspension. Has Toyota done enough to make the 32020 Camry TRD performance WORTHY?

And add a few thousand dollars to the sticker price that they are trying to keep down, by basing it on an SE, instead of an XSE. Btw, how much more horsepower does a factory stock Honda Civic Type R or Subaru WRX STi have? And are those engines guaranteed to have the reliability, durability, and longevity of a non turbo normally aspirated V6 with approximately the same horsepower? I heard that the TRD V6 seems to be recalibrated along with the transmission to be tuned for optimal performance over the non TRD XSE V6.
Bottom line, cost and reliability. Great brakes, handling, exhaust note, and TRD appearance accents and body kit and rear diffuser.
They have the Nightshade XP Camry SE with front foglights. They should at least offer it as an aftermarket accessory. The TRD does look the best in white, especially since the paint has a metallic or pearlescent sheen. That area next to where the foglights should be on any Camry that is not black could be either vinyl wrapped, or painted black to make it look more aggressive and solve that odd look in that area.
Practically, like I have said many times before, I would rather have a loaded blue two tone Camry XSE, even withbthe 4 cylinder, ut would get the V6 if I could, though several reviewers said, the added engine weight makes it a bit nose heavy and pushes slightly on hard turns, but it seems the TRD has taken care of that issue.
Everything you said on its performance, handling, braking, sound and looks is exactly what Toyota, and the TRD specifically intended. It was based on the SE for reducing the price for the enthusiasts who want this, as opposed to the XSE based Avalon TRD, whereas those that would buy that is probably not concerned about price.
So, lots of the perks, bells and whistles are omitted, along with the panoramic sunroof, which I wish could be omitted from a loaded XSE for those that don't want it. Like the engine, down the road, it may have downsides like water leaks with wear and tear.
I didn't like the stripped seats, like the factory OEM SE seats that are down in blue, but it seems okay to me now, and the rear spoiler has also grown in me with the rest of the package. I wish the rear seats could fold down, but I notice even on the XSE, and maybe other Camrys, the rear bulkhead behind the rear seats or pretty massive with a very low clearance compared to other sedans in its size class.
But what I don't like the most is the deletion of the CD player that the XSE has, even without the high output non JBL sound system. But like I said, things like that, no rear ventilation ports and lots of other goodies were left out because this was made for performance.
With that being said, I might be tempted to forego all of that and want a TRD, even without all the other creature comforts and amenities in lieu of what it does have, and how it acted everything it was intended to do and be.
On a side note, with a regular XSE/SE rear spoiler, and sans all the TRD badging, and maybe with a stock OEM XSE body kit, this would make a great police or highway patrol traffic enforcement car.
But, as I said as a caveat for those that still think it should have more horsepower, TRD and or aftermarket resources should work on a stage 1 and 2 performance kit to get maybe at least 350 to 400 HP, for those that are willing to put up with potential modifications and negative ramifications like any other modified tuner car.
Also, for those that want to hop up their SE or XSE, TRD should make the body kit, rear diffuser, exhaust system, aluminum pedals, rear spoiler wheels, brake upgrade kit, and the suspension mods that practical and bolt on from the TRD like the stiffer springs, shocks, bigger sway bars, bounce bumpers, etc., available.
But the most important thing is freedom of choice and opinion. And ability to get whatever is made available to purchase.
So, it would be great to get this myself and others if we can forego all the missing options, or be able to modify and customize an SE or XSE to out preferences if, and when we have the resources to do so.

What Toyota has done with the Camry TRD is amazing and all this with that legendary Toyota quality. This naturally asperated V6 engine may not be the most powerful or fastest in its segment when compared to its turbo charged rivals but years down the road this car will still be on the road and running without major repair bills. Also, I don't know about other car companies since I own a Toyota but that Toyota Care routine maintenance in NICE! I just took my car in for its 5,000 mile maintenance and again for its 10,000 mile maintenance and paid ZERO dollars. Cost of ownership can add but with a Toyota you are not going to have the headaches you get with other vehicles which is why their resale value is still very high. Keep up the great work.

I owned a Camry XSE V6 Windchill Black and red interior, panoramic moon proof. A couple asked me to see my car inside out at the car wash just an hour ago. They wanted to buy a Camry TRD but after the husband saw my car he changed his mind. His wife still liked TRD but him. He told me the Camry XSE is mixed between luxury and sporty. I heard that Toyota does “not” have a panoramic moon proof and increase the horse power on the TDR but not sure if they have that options in near future. In my opinion, I like the XSE model.

So tired of people putting this car down. Yes, it's easy to make fun of a family sedan trying to be a performance car. But guess what? No one laughed when Ford brought out the Taurus SHO back in the day. And no one should laugh at this. It looks good, looks like it handles well, has over 300 horses and I'm sure it will have the well known Toyota reliability. Yes, it could use a manual transmission and rear air ducts and armrest, but it's fine as is. This car is no joke and I applaud Toyota for even making it.

Hey, Joe! Yesterday, I found the price comparison chart for the TRD, XSE, etc. There is an option package with Navigation, JBL stereo, and more, and maybe a mistake, but it said panoramic sunroof, etc. But what it doesn't have that the XSE has is not much I couldn't live without. I would get this if I could, and the 3 Honda Civics if not. Black is nice, but too hot, and more need to pamper the paint, and less visibility at night for safety. I would get it in Whindchill Pearl white. It looks the best, especially since I normally would not prefer a white car, the paint is nice, not plain flat white. There seems to up to 6 TRDs here in Honolulu at the dealer prep center, two white ones with the option package. I hinted to Santa that it would make the perfect new Ninja Cat Mobile to prowl the streets here.

I believe the Csmrybus approved, as well as 4Runners, and Dodge Chargers, the most popular, but if the TRD is approved, this would be a great police car with all the equipment and the removable roof mounted blue light bar. And maybe in black as a marked traffic enforcement car, since Fird may be phasing out the Tairus based sedans eventually, and only have the Explorer based SUVs.
Yeah, whatever I get, if not, maybe a blue Cuvic Si, I would get a VanTrue Dashcam, and maybe a GoPro Hero Black to film the scenery going around the islands, especially the island perimeter ocean views on the winding roads...

Save the 7k and go put 2 subs in the trunk. CarPlay for your navigation from your phone and Pano roof blah blah just wrap the top of the roof black. They do it in my city for 400 bucks. This TRD will be faster as it lighter in weight from the XSE, plus it sounds louder and i believe it will be a collectible item. Remember Toyota is only making a few of them i read. Each dealer in a city will only get 2 or 3 of them.
