2025 Kia EV5 review - preview of new electric SUV to undercut Tesla Model Y!

- The Kia EV5 electric SUV could be the biggest moment in the history of the brand in Australia!
With a fully electric drivetrain, new practical midsize SUV design and a very different take on things compared to the Sportage, and chances are it won't be much more money than it, either.
Kia is targeting a sub-$60K AUD starting price for it, with Air, Earth and GT-Line models to be offered. Single-motor FWD and dual-motor AWD will be offered, and you can expect an EV driving range of up to 600km, with an 88kWh LFP battery from BYD to be offered.
The interior also has a few amazing tricks and design finishes, but the big thing will be what the model range shapes up like, and what it costs... but tell me your thoughts on what it should be priced at in the comments below!

Kia makes excellent cars, and this one looks like it has real potential. The unknowns, price, range and efficiency, servicing (if it needs servicing) and any design features that will or won’t come to Australia, will dictate the success of this car. If they get the formula right in Oz it will sell well. Thanks for showing us this car , I look forward to the full review when possible!

Love everything about this car...except the price. The prices of new cars are insane.
And the price is actually going to be low for the segment.
Industry wide, unfortunately. Every car maker used to have a sub-20 model. Now you can’t buy anything but a poverty pack shitbox for under 30 new. Tax break tradie wagons have pushed the average new car sale price to over 50.
Base model Will need to start under 60K to be competitive here in Australia
Entry level Air model with the 64kwh battery will come in at $58,990 + ORC's in my opinion.
Will also have 7 year warranty vs 4 years with Tesla model Y.
I wouldn't be surprised if Kia offers very attractive driveaway pricing for the first 6 months after launch in June/July.

It would have to be 10k under the equivalent EV6 prices otherwise why bother?
If it has sharp pricing. May have to consider against the tank 500.

@@therightcar I have to consider the cost of fuel which isn’t favourable with a 80L fuel capacity on the Tank 500 plus I have solar at home. Though I have to consider it is worth giving up bonus two seats for almost free operating cost. Tough choices for myself.
Completely different market segment; this is a family SUV with FWD in Air and Earth.
It's like comparing a Toyota Kluger FWD to a Nissan Patrol 4x4.

Hoping it has off road or rough road ability. Solterra is leading in that, but Kia is winning all else.
I wouldn’t bank on it being Subaru-spec (or even bZ4X) for all-wheel drive ability. But we’ll see!

This car is made in china, selling for $32,000 AUD in china; while we will pay $60,000 in Australia. Model Y made in China, selling for $55,000 AUD in China, we pay $65,000. Wow, Kia is very good at making money in Australia
The EV market in China is ferocious apparently. There are a LOT of EV automakers conducting business in China that they have to keep their prices VERY competitive just to keep up. But abroad where EV adoption is still not as widespread, automakers can price their cars whatever they want. Just my 2 cents...

@@rickchen8575 Do you know how hard Tesla has had to mark down their cars in China because the competition is so fierce? Also, price is set by the local market, not the international market because you can't just jump on Amazon and order an EV. ALSO, if you sell 50,000 of something a month, you can afford lower margins than something - like an EV in the Australian market - where you only sell 50,000 in a year.

How much it cost them or if anyone thinks its a good ‘investment’ or not. Price this too high and they'll loose any hope of stealing customers away from other brands. And there are heaps of other cars to choose from in the market.

$50k. I can't see many EV drivers fixing their own wheels on the side of the road, when they get a puncture.
Ev sales are falling in the USA as is teslas share price. I'd say this changes nothing.
Who gives a shit about whats happening in the US car market?
Kia is overcharging by almost 20% on most models.

Another poorly thought-out EV for Australia. 1 no spare 2 having to recharge 3 range anxiety 4 worthless when 5 plus years old.
