As someone who has lived in both (currently Boulder), I'll say this:
Boulder has a better location (close to Denver, better mountains)
Fort Collins is the better city (quieter, more livable).

I’ve grown up in a town located geographically exactly in between both. I’ve always been drawn more to Fort Collins because as that student mentioned, people really ARE much nicer in FoCo. I’m sorry Boulder, but I’ve never been a fan of the whole “I’m better than you and have more money” mentality I seem to come across when I’m there. Just look at Pearl Street as an example. Tons of well off people shopping there & a ridiculous homeless population. When I’m walking through Old Town in Fort Collins, I see way less of that and more people talking to each other, smiling, and the locally owned businesses have much more authentic people running them because huge corporations haven’t completely taken over our main shopping scene.

If Boulder were a good place, they'd have made some attempt to create low-middle income housing and be less sanctimonious about making everyone do 30 minute one way commutes. I say this as someone who works in Boulder.

As someone who was born and raised in Denver and have friends in both CUB and CSU, we all agree that CU boulder is a better school academically but they are more obnoxious as a group of people. CU boulder has a way more beautiful campus than CSU but the parking and rent prices are HORRIBLE. If you are an outdoorsy person though CU boulder is the place to be, it's a 15 minute drive into the mountains and there are hiking trails literally everywhere.

CSU doesn't even have aerospace. I know because I applied to both and go to Boulder. However, CU has a top notch program and when people from NASA, JPL, ULA, Ball, and other aerospace companies go to hire people CU is right at the top of their list with MIT and Caltech. Aside from aerospace, CU's engineering program is better as a whole. Oh, and our sports teams are a lot better too. The running and hiking around here is certainly better but you may struggle to find anywhere to go fishing - however, I haven't tried but given the lack of lakes and rivers I'd guess it would be hard.

    1. CU undeniably has better sports teams. Our sports teams dominate CSU's and CU has far more National Championships - notably one in football as is a focal point of this video.
    2. CU has better engineering as a whole and has aerospace engineering.
    3. CU has larger and better ROTC detachments.
    4. CU and the city of Boulder have a better night life.
    5. CU students are more successful in their future affairs and have higher grades.
    6. CU has better dining halls and the city of Boulder DEFINITELY has better food.
    7. CU was rated the number one school IN THE WORLD for geo-sciences as a whole, as well as in optical, atomic, and molecular physics. In addition many other departments here are globally appraised and ranked, higher than CSU's departments.
    8. There have been 18 CU affiliated astronauts (as of now). CU is also one of the top schools for aerospace with graduates from here getting nearly the same consideration for employment at places like NASA, JPL, Lockheed, ULA, and other aerospace companies as graduates from MIT and Caltech. As I previously iterated, CSU doesn't even have an aerospace program.
    9. Boulder doesn't smell like cow dung, is extremely clean, and is far more eco-friendly.
    10. People in Boulder and at CU are on average healthier both mentally and physically than the average citizen of Fort Collins.
    11. CU is more expensive but that's because you are paying for a better education, better experience, and a better life. Also, the standards here are higher, so not everybody can get in like at CSU.
    12. Ralphie is a larger, faster, more impressive animal than Cam.
    13. Boulder has a better view and has a far better looking campus.
    14. The drive into Boulder is far better than the drive into Fort Collins. Every single way into Fort Collins is awful.
    15. CU has more Nobel laureates than CSU (CU 5-0 CSU).
    16. CSU students act just as elitist as CU students and CSU students are very cocky but with no reason.
A little joke to add on... What do CU and CSU students have in common? They both got into CSU.
    Need I go on?
Boulder wins. Hands down. It's not even a debate.

After being in Boulder for 24 hours I realized not only did I not want to live in Boulder, but I also had no reason to even visit Boulder. Is it a giant conspiracy to try to raise housing prices?
