Hey Chris! I just found your channel a day or two ago and I've been binging your videos non stop since. I've been starting to hike a lot more recently and your videos have made me start looking into turning my hikes into longer overnight camp outs. I just wanted to thank you for making such high quality content on here, it's such an inspiration to watch!
Awesome! Thank you! Hiking / Backpacking is a great sport/ activity in many ways!
Another great review! Thank you so much Chris.
My pleasure!
Thanks Chris. Another great video.
You bet
Really thorough review, so helpful! Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thank u dir This very Good Review!! Helped me a lotttt!!
Hello Chris we hope all is well . as usual some great information thanks for sharing we hope you have a great day and we hope you have a blessed weekend Love and Light Sarah and Glenn OS means One size i never knew that lol
Thank You, you too! Keep Hiking!
As always, wonderful review, Chris! I'm with you, Chris, in that I really love that 'shove it' mesh pocket on the front of packs. For that reason, and the fact that this pack doesn't have Osprey's lid lock for bike helmets and also doesn't have pockets on the side, I'm going to stick with my small size Osprey Talon 22 since it is just two liters more than this pack at 20 liters...even if it is probably a touch heavier. I'm kinda surprised Osprey made this model, but hey, you got to shave those ounces off any way you can sometimes!
Yes, Osprey goes out of their way to make a lot of packs with slightly different features and sizes. Not always necessary but gives ya options. Keep Hiking!
Love the review! I just want to add that the loops on the bottom were added for trekking poles too, so you could slide them through there and lock them in with the cinch side straps.
that makes sense. Thanks
The trekking poles can also go in the gear loops freeing up the water bottle pouches.
Great review! Super helpful. Also looks like you're just living your best life so it was such a joy watching you. Wondering if the back mesh ruins your clothes? I read a review that said it can with time, pill and ruin your clothes + wire frame corners get ruined fast cuz it's riding with fabric around it
this one is super comfy. it seems to hug the sides of the waist nicely and the bottom of it doesn't "sit' on top of my butt like some of the others do which is super irritating. it stays well back from your body allowing air to flow through nicely.
This day pack has a lot of nice features! I really like it.
Good little pack.
Nice pack! I was going to go for the less expensive teton oasis 1100 in the ~20L daypack role, but this one looks good too.
I had the Teton oasis 1100 and was fine with it but then I got the Osprey manta 24 with that air cool mesh back and I haven’t used another pack since. Im a Floridian and now no more sweaty back! I recommend getting a pack that has the mesh that elevates the pack off your back so the air can circulate and keep you dry.
Teton has good gear as well. But it does help to have a ventilation like Onion Head says! Airspeed and Airscape back panels and others can make a big difference
cool little bag Chris, Thanks for sharing and showing it, well done
Thanks for watching Jerry!
Do the water bottle pockets on this backpack work better than those on the Daylite and daylite plus?
Hi! I have loved watching your videos, especially the backpacking in Nevada ones. My two sons and I plan to attempt to camp on our land in Nevada for a few weeks (we own 40 acres that backs up to BLM land, but live in Iowa and have never had a chance to go). I was wondering how bad scorpions are at night near the 7 troughs range if you have been around there. We are about 30 miles west, southwest of Rye Patch Reservoir. Thanks again for the amazing videos!
Hey Thanks for watching my channel. I have not had any issues...I do put my boots inside my tent and I completely zip the tent shut. Also be mindful of Rattle snakes...just keep an eye and ear out for them, I have not had an issue. I did find this online about Scorpions in Northern Nv.
Scorpions: Heitt said scorpions in Northern Nevada are not too venomous and stings are more like those from a bee. “In southern Nevada, however, we do have the Arizona Bark Scorpion, likely an invasive species, which is the most venomous of all scorpions but is still very unlikely to be fatal,” she said. Cases of scorpion killings in Nevada could not be found.
Chance of fatality: LOW
@@basecampchris Thank you! Sounds like Mosquito's and spiders might be more of a problem! Now to find a solution just in case they are!
Thanks for the review Chris! What do you think of this pack vs. the Talon 22? Great videos!
Talon 22 / little bigger/ more features
Thanks Chris! I bought the osprey kestrel based on your other review but I’m looking for a smaller one for just quick hikes. I’m 6’1 and have a long torso… Would this work for taller folks?
I would think so...I would try one on at a REI or Sportsman's Warehouse and see what you think or order on amazon and return if it's not right.
👌🏼
Can't decide on this pack or the ll bean ridge runner pack 15l, any thoughts anyone?
Which color is this? Shiitake grey?
So I bought this pack for easy day hikes in hot & humid Kauai. I’m bummed to discover that when I put my water bladder inside, it creates a bulge in the back panel which pushes against the mesh trampoline which essentially cuts off the air flow which is the whole point of the suspension system. :(
Does it do the same bulge at the back panel if all the air is out of the water bladder...making the bladder flat?
@@tca83 I mean, when the bladder is full then it bulges. The water expands the bladder so it’s not flat unless it’s empty.
Great review that Chris....I’m looking at the same pack but 26 litres.....any chance of reviewing that?.....stay safe keep hiking! 👏🏻👍🏻
Hi Alastair, I'll see what I can do. Keep Hiking!
@@basecampchris if you could mate that’d be awesome....I’m seriously looking at that pack for the summer
When should someone use trekking poles?
Really helpful when carrying a full backpack- they will help distribute the weight from your legs / back TO arms / shoulders. Also coming down a steep trail with loose rock/ sand...will provide support/ keep you upright.
@@basecampchris what about sleeping clothes? Do you just use the sweaty clothes you hiked in all day?
What you call "gear loops" are in fact loops to carry your trekking poles (tip down, mind you...), held by the compression straps... NEVER carry your poles tips up !
💸💸💸 a bit rich for me
You can get a similiar size pack at Walmart for about $18-20 bucks.
The main problem with the Osprey Hikelite (and Daylite and Tropos) can be seen here (check out the comments too): czcams.com/video/k3L-6gTk9xo/video.html&lc=UgxscyZ4GGXobS_5byF4AaABAg
An absolute waste of money. I bought this expensive useless backpack for walking in Spain in the summer. I expected it to end the sweaty back but unfortunately when you have stuff in the rucsac it presses on your back through the mesh which dies not stand off your back. Even worse are the ridiculous pockets for water bottles. Common sense would place the retaining straps at the top of the pockets but no, Isorey has them at the bottom. Utterly ineffective. Badly designed and way overpriced I’d urge you to look elsewhere. This pack is rubbish
