  • How to change, replace or install car battery on a Subaru Forester or principles for changing a battery on any car, Toyota and others
    I show you how I do this job start to finish but like all mechanical work this may not be something you can safely do and this video is not a replacement for your owner's manual. Contact your dealer for an exact replacement battery.
    This job will take an average of 15 minutes ad is something you need to decide if you are capable of doing.
    I hope this video is helpful. I would appreciate the thumbs up if you like it and Subscribe for more videos.

    Thank you. The bracket is where I had trouble. I had to replace the battery at night and for the life of me couldn't find the bracket holes.

    He should have used a battery memory saver? That's as simple as 2 alligator clips a couple pieces of wire and a small 9 Volt battery; so it can hold a trickle charge on some of the electronics!

    Thanks for the vid, but I thought that when you disconnect the battery the alarma goes off and all electrics can be messed up....?

    What if the original 550 cc battery is replaced by another 650 cc battery in the Subaru Impreza or Ascent from 2019 to 2021 ? thank you

    Thanks... your vid helped tons. You should note in the comments to use an extended 10mm driver... the drivers that came with the ratchet set is too short to reach the nut on top of the battery bracket

    I just changed mine on my 08 Impreza WRX. I was worried if I needed to keep a small amount of power for the ecu, like some newer cars where they recommend you connect an small power source to keep your ecu or other electronic parts that need constant power from either reseting or shutting off completely.

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  Před 6 lety

      You don't need the supplemental power, at least you won't have any problems without it. In my experience the ECU, etc won't be affected. Most often the clock and radio stations may be lost but it's usually fairly minimal. Thank you for watching and please subscribe. Best wishes.

      @kaisenji... For your 2017 Forester.. what else resetted besides the window and radio preset stations? I have to change the battery which is no problem but have no idea what else would reset... Did you have a battery management system? Where you had to program the battery settings into the car computer?

      Not sure about that, you probab;ly can but it may not need it. Might depend on the battery.

    mine is also 14, I'm curious, do you change it due to time interval or the battery needed to be replaced?

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  Před 6 lety +1

      Mine actually died, gave me a couple of warnings first where it was suddenly hard to start but sadly it just failed. Should have lasted longer in my opinion but at least a factory battery was only $125 which is pretty low compared to other brands I have owned. Thank you for watching.

    Just changed my MY14 Forester battery, and now the automatic window doesnt work, can only imagine what other problems a simple thing can cause?

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  Před 6 lety

      If it still goes up and down but its the auto fucntion that doesn't work. Put the window all the way up and hold the window UP button for 5 seconds. Then try the window again.

      More details here for you: Initialization of power window
      If the vehicle’s battery is disconnected due
      to situations such as battery or fuse
      replacement, the following functions are
      deactivated.
      . One-touch auto up/down function
      . Anti-entrapment function
      Initialize the power window in the following
      procedure to reactivate such functions.
      1. Close the driver’s door.
      2. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON”
      position.
      3. Open the driver’s side window halfway
      by pushing down the power window
      switch.
      4. Pull up the power window switch and
      close the window completely. Continue
      pulling up the switch for approximately 1
      second after the window is closed completely.

    Changed the battery on my sons 2012 Impeza. After installing new battery, several warning lights appeared including the check engine light. The car started but is undrivable due some kind of transmission sensor? Any suggestions?

      I would try disconnecting the battery, wait 15 minutes and reconnect it. It may help reset it. Let me know how it goes.

    How much is a car battery for subarus?

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  Před 5 lety +1

      Check it out at a dealer, I only paid $120. A non-subaru battery was quote at $160. Cheaper at the dealer this time.

    My 2013 Forester did not start on the first try. It spun the motor but no spark.
    Cranked it a second time after about five seconds, fired up after a longer crank.
    Third time it starts normal.
    I was told the electronic's need to re remind themselves that it is an engine! 😂

    Let the car idle, vile you change the battery.
