I also agree as well. The only exception for me is Revenant as i love the eerie electric guitar and bass sounds the song has in the album version vs the ascutic live version. That said the live version at the Teatro Metropolitan CDMX is amazing.

I have always considered The Warning Rock with Metal leanings, being an old school rocker/metalhead I remember when the lines were blurred between rock and metal and I feel The Warning is firmly in the middle of the two genres. They are a rock band that metalheads can enjoy! Awesome breakdown!

Fun analysis as usual! One of the aspects of The Warning I enjoy is they don’t write based on a label directive telling them they must have a certain sound based on a formula popular because they’ll receive X number of plays/impressions, etc. They write based on the feeling the lyrics convey. You get the mood, the vibe, the emotion. Who knows where they’ll go from here but I’m all in on the journey. They’re still kids and really just starting out but they’re way beyond the typical and the average in talent, passion, drive and energy and talent. Did I mention talent?

I wasn't even into rock n' roll before being presented to The Warning, let alone metal, the only thing I know is that I love their music and everything about them.
I'm Mexican but I would be a fan of them even if they were from Mars🤣...(maybe they are😂)
The worderful thing is that people from every age seem to love them as well.
You can see a lot of children in their concerts, young people like them, and of course, old dudes like me, it's amazing.
They don't only put together music genres, but they get together generations with their music.😂
I have seen a lot of discussions about "what music does The Warning really play", most of time, nobody agrees🤣 I always end up thinking that The Warning sounds like "The Warning".

There is no definitive category for the Warning's genre .Depending on the particular song of course , it can be a mixture of ,rock , hard rock , metal , and punk . And recently with the song called " More " ( music video only ) they have added yet another sub genre in ( rock , grunge pop ) .That is one of their best assets for me , using all of these different styles , and not getting stuck in just one genre of music . • @MetalProfessor65
      @MetalProfessor65  Před 8 měsíci +3

A good question, sir! The answer, however, is boring. The original vid was visible for only about three hours before it became invisible for a day due to copyright and tax issues. So it was invisible during the period when it would get the most views (which come between 6 and 24 hours after initial posting). Also, since the vid had been posted already, even though I’ve made it visible again it won’t show up again in most people’s “suggested videos” list-and that’s how the vast majority of people find my vids. So if I just made the original vid visible again, it wouldn’t get remotely as many views as it could have. Therefore to ensure the vid reaches the most people it can, I 1) made the original version visible again (for folks who had started but not finished it-I got several comments about that) and 2) I posted the video a second time (slightly revised version to avoid more copyright hassle) so it will show up in the “suggested videos” feed as new. Short version: I reposted it because otherwise a lot of people wouldn’t even know about it. Sincere thanks for asking the question! I’ve really enjoyed this series so far and am eagerly awaiting the next video.
Hopefully there will be another installment when TW4 drops “soon” (that word is an inside joke with TWA because it was the standard answer of TW when questioned about the pandemic delayed release of Error).
IMO, genre classifications are subjective until they’re not. Bands sometimes declare their own interpretation of their genre because it’s important to them while other bands are more comfortable skirting the edges of genres so they don’t care if they’re classified a certain genre or not.
To me the generic term rock encompasses many sub-genres from the 50’s rock-n-roll to today’s multiple sub classifications including metal.
There is rampant speculation of what TW4 is gonna sound like mainly fueled by the band itself.
They have been adamant about telling their fans that they are going to experiment with their sound and of course many have taken that to mean they are going to go more poppy to increase their overall appeal to the masses and some feel that may be directly attributed to their label wanting “More” commercial success from the band. I’ll personally withhold speculation until I hear TW4.
There’s also speculation that new material will be released during their “big” shows upcoming in Mexico likely being either in their hometown of Monterrey or in Mexico City beings the band has hinted at some special surprises during those shows.

When I was a teen the thing that drew me to what was just starting to be called progressive rock, was that there was a wild mix of hard and soft songs, some featured orchestral strings, some didn't. It was only later the industry had a hard time with that and started to make everything sound alike. Modern metal was still developing and lots of bands seamlessly went between proto-metal, hard rock and whatever fit. After 40 years I still appreciate that approach.

TW were the only ones who followed the instructions for Enter Sandman, at any rate. The others were at best stylistic adaptations or an alternate opening before launching into the song, and at worst straight covers, possibly with even heavier guitar tones.
The first song, however, is simply because the tracks are organized in order of the original (thus all the Enter Sandman versions up front), and then alphabetically by artist (Alessia Cara comes out first). All of the other tracks are organized in that way, and it's a perfectly logical way to do it.

Both videos on The Warning were a ton of fun and I thank you.
These girls simmered in good music throughout their childhood, so these first fifty songs always give the flavors of classic rock but with XXI century freshness.
I bet they have the natural talent and artistic drive to reach a point when they will start producing truly innovative art that will place them among the great ones.

Very nice! I enjoyed the journey through this early concept masterpiece! Well, sometimes we could discuss if it’s already metal, or still heavy rock, but we always agree how great these songs are composed and performed! I totally agree that Narcisista has a huge punk attitude, a rocking middle finger! Lovely! I love their diversity, rock, hard rock, heavy rock, punk, doses of metal… as you say, this album starts great and develops even more to this masterpiece! Red Hands, Sinister Smiles, Dull Knives, Psychotic, the balladesque songs The End and Crimson Queen… a great mix! Right now they are recording the new album! Can’t wait for your review of Error! Thanks, greetings from Germany 👍⚡️🤘

    Interesting analysis.
For starters, your advice about listening to the album in full, without distraction, is absolutely on point. The first time I listened to it I made the mistake of using it as background music, with the result that I could neither concentrate properly on the album or on what I was otherwise working on. The next time I blocked out about an hour, put it on my stereo (with plenty of power and very good speakers with a powerful subwoofer) with no distractions.
You're the first person to describe Crimson Queen as metal, with an interesting justification. I've thought of it as a slightly warped ballad (she hasn't gone completely off the rails yet, but there's definitely a screw loose). This was independently written by Dany, and then they realized that it perfectly fit the album, so in it went. There's an interesting performance (at Foro Didi) where her guitar mic failed, so she was essentially singing it a capella (and when she realized it couldn't be fixed, she stopped playing her guitar, took her vocal mic in hand, and sung the rest from center stage -- again, perfectly appropriate.
I know I'm not the only person to consider the title track to be their most metal song, at least to the date of the album. It would have been perfectly at home in the NWoBHM era, of course with their own twist ("korosu" means "murder" in Japanese).
Psychotic is commonly referred to as "cheerleader punk", and Pau has referred to it as such (voices in her head cheering her on). The point about Pau singing the "good" side is seen throughout the album; Dust to Dust is from the Queen's funeral, about what could have been; Sinister Smiles is explicitly a duet between the characters, and I've always interpreted The End as representing the ultimate, if Pyrrhic, victory of the good side. A very operatic storyline. I'm surprised you didn't mention Dany's guitar solo in The End, one of her best, and to me an important part of the album, not just the song. It's melancholy, but not entirely so (note the modulation up after the second chorus in the bridge leading to the solo).
Narcisista is absolutely a diss song aimed at critics in Mexico who were unhappy that all of their songs to date had been in English. The sneer starts with Dany's guitar tone, to the graphics in the lyric video, to Pau's dismissive gesticulation. Taylor Swift reportedly liked The Warning at the VMAs; I don't know if she knows about Narcisista, but she'd surely be completely on board with it.
Finally, Enter Sandman: I downright enjoy their interpretation more than the original. It's a cover in the same sense as Jimi Hendrix's All Along The Watchtower or Disturbed's Sound of Silence.

Cool review and spot on in my opinion. I'm sure Lava is somewhat relieved that this concept album is behind them. I do know they have complete control over content, even their wardrobe. They do take advise and even got help in writing one of their newer songs. I'm curious however about weather or not an advance was offered and if they turned it down. My guess is they took no advance offered or not. The only artist I know of that ever turned down an advance was the singer Jewel. I believe she was 18 or 19 and still living in her car at the time. Good for her turning it down. Supposedly she went into detail on this as a guest of Joe Rogan. I'll have to check it out.

QOTMS is my favorite album of theirs so far. The Warning took 7+ months to get convinced to sign with Lava..from what has been made public they have a lot of control over their look brand and their music. They will not do anything they don't want to imo. Their version of Enter Sandman with AC is a reinterpretation of the original and took one week through skype etc to do. They did exactly what Metallica wanted and apparently were the only group to really do what they wanted everyone else just did covers. This version has already been in video games and tv shows. The Error album was pretty much done when they signed with Lava..David said he changed very little as it was 3 against 1 on most issues. This next album(which they are in studio recording right now) will be their first real album with Lava imo however who knows when some of the songs may have been written as Pau has said she has notebooks full of songs written over the years.

I discovered this band about a month ago...I'm not just a fan I'm a whole Air Conditioner (I know...original line eh), the music is awesome and they don't need to wear skimpy outfits or have some stupid gimmick to get the attention as the music speaks volumes about their talent. Last week I placed an order on their official web store for 21St Century Blood, Queen Of The Murder Scene and Error albums...those CDs arrived this week as I'm a firm believer that good music is worth buying. The Warning is seriously good music and I'll agree they can't be placed within one "category" as they span multiple genres...I only wish them the best going forward and I"ll buy their albums as they come out.

I am guessing that trying to stuff these creatives into a genre, is going to become increasingly problematic as they develop. They could ( and probably will) go in any direction. You are the first commenter to mention something that has always seemed obvious to me, that is, that to enjoy QOTMS you must listen to it as a single work and not dissect it, since the parts that constitute it support each other in some way. Furthermore, when heard in sequence from beginning to end, another rarely mentioned merit of the work is revealed: its unity. This is that despite the different styles and influences in each of the songs, upon hearing The album from start to finish never gives the impression of being made up of "incoherent pieces" like a Frankenstein's monster, but rather the work flows smoothly in a very natural way.

While I may not agree with all your points/rankings, your analysis and explanations are all well thought out and delivered. I still absolutely consider The Warning a hard rock band, but I'm willing to admit they play more "metal" (and rock for that matter) songs than I realized. And the fact that they are able to write and perform songs in all 3 of those genres shows just how talented they are as songwriters and musicians. In the end the only ranking/label that matter is that The Warning are awesome no matter what they play. Very interested to see your breakdown of Error, I expect it'll be interesting.
Also, gotta agree with you on QOTMS being an album you should listen to straight through and it being an amazing concept album (especially considering their age when they wrote/recorded it!). You can see this in everything she’s does. Singing, drumming, and her writing. I need to watch more of their interviews. They all contribute to the writing of a song but often it’s Dani or Ale they have an idea and Pau goes to work on the piano with it. This was a great breakdown. There have been record labels trying to sign them since they put out their "Escape The Mind" EP but they wouldn't sign because they wanted them to change, to be more mainstream. They negotiated with Lava/Republic Records for 8 months before signing with them. From what I understand they kept complete control of their creative output, songs, songwriting, and image. That is unheard of in the music industry. Narcisista is absolutely a 'Fuck You' to their critics who called them Malinchista's {cultural traitors} for not doing their songs in Spanish, which hurt them very deeply and pissed Pau off. The first draft of the song was so bad that their mother told them to tone it down. I don't know what it is about this band, but they are different, they can't be labeled, or put in any one genre of music. And their story is amazing and captivating. The pandemic slowed them down when they had to cancel their North American tour, but the 2 songs they did at the VMAs "Evolve" and "More" introduced them to a national audience, and from what I've heard they were the most searched band on CZcams and other streaming sites after those performances. If you haven't seen those performances yet you should check them out. Also for fun check out their cover of Metallica's "Atlas Rise" from the Whiskey a GoGo in 2019. Dany doing both rhythm and lead, trading off vocals with Pau who beats the hell out of the kit, and Ale holding down everything on bass. They did it as a special request for a friend/fan after a two-and-a-half-hour show of 22 original songs. czcams.com/video/fhhG5EiFiyA/video.html
