- THE WARNING's song "More": What's going on here?! Let's take a quick dive into the track and find out!
(And if you want to show your general Metal Allegiance, feel free to buy an "In Metal We Trust" or "Metal is for Girls!" t-shirt! my-store-9774711.creator-spri... )
I'm 66, and my take on More is that it is 80's/90's pop with a hard grunge metal edge. It's The Warning taking any musical style they want and making it uniquely their own. More is different than anything else they have done and it's as good as anything they have done. Well done ladies.
It's definitely Rob Zombie vibes of the late 90's and early 00's. It's dance music for the family from The Hills Have Eyes. Living Dead Girl, Dragula, Feel So Numb, Scum of the Earth, Never Gonna Stop... More fits in with all of them. Biggest difference is obviously the vocals but all great music. If they make more of More, I'll be happy. I'll be happy with more Mayday EP. They've done several subgenres of rock. They're simply great.
Hey, someone has to invent the next big thing. Right? May as well be The Warning!
Might as well be and (it seems to me) soon will be! Thanks for watching and commenting! 🤘
I heard that their producer said there were no synths in song so I broke out the old pedal board to experiment. It’s a tremelo pedal turned all the way up. Pretty cool how Dany did it and fun to play. 🤘🏼
So cool for you to tackle this debate - some of TWA are fairly emotional/dramatic about it! I'm in the "not pop" group -- if someone can imagine the song in their head with none of the vocals, then I doubt they would call it pop. I think it is the way the vocals sound in the studio version that leads some people to call it pop, the concert version sounds heavier.
Agreed on all counts--thanks for chiming in, man! 🤘
That would be me. I don't like the layered, distorted vocals with almost a rap cadence. I agree the live version sounds much better.
And thanks for making that comment! I enjoyed making this video.😊🤘 @@robertott1172
I think bands that are springboarding in popularity can use songs like this to gain an audience who normally would snub anything metal. Crossover songs are nothing new. I mean if metallica can do a country song, are there really any limits??
That's a really good point. Thanks for chiming in! @@rockcrawlerchurch2976 🤘
Dany does masterclasses several times a year for their higher tier Patreon subscribers, where she teaches us how to play their songs on the guitar. I am not a musician, but I still like to watch them to learn more about what is involved in the composing and playing of the songs. She did one for this song recently and I thought that this song was not very technical for the guitar parts, but after watching Dany explain all the little string bends, slides, etc. that she plays, I have now a much better appreciation for her playing this while singing, managing her pedal board and moving around.
That's interesting! I was thinking about doing a video re: how to play this song on guitar. Hmm.. 🤔🤘
So when this song debuted it was listed #1 on the iTunes alt-rock chart. So Apple thinks this is alt-rock. There are no synths in this song. Per producer Anton Delost, all the sounds are done by The Warning on their guitars and drums.
Glad you posted about no synths as I was going to but I hate correcting (maybe a better word is informing) reactors. LOL! Dany is a master of getting many different tones from her various guitars. 👍
Interesting! Apple is purely wrong here, but I can see how Dany could have get this song from her guitar, albeit with a few effects on top. Thanks for watching & chiming in!🤘
I appreciate corrections--that's how we learn!--so thanks for chiming in! 🤘 @@RobertLindabury
@@MetalProfessor65 Absolutely with effects on top. You need to see her going over her pedalboard video and explaining how she's programmed it. 🙂
The special effect guitar part is a backing track when More is played live. I assume they decided it was too complicated to do live, and it’s also a very minor part of the song live.
I love that The Warning are always exploring. Are The Warning Evolve or Breathe? Dust to Dust or Crimson Queen? For me, the answer is, yes. It's all great, and wherever they are on their journey, we always know it's them.
An apt sentiment! Thanks for watching & chiming in! 🤘
Said this before - The Warning are doing a Benjamin Button here. When they were teens the girls came up with some heavy stuff that belied their chronological age. Now as they are growing up they are having more fun by experimenting. Reverse childhood if you may. And that doesn't suit some Patreons who want them to be in a certain way.
To me More is an intellgent mix of influences from various genres. You are among those few reactors who talked about diminishing pitch in the song. Almost every line is having a half tone bend at the end. By contrast Money has an upward bend. We are elated when we think of cash. We are down & depressed in a toxic relationship. BTW the relationship can be between the band & their fans also.
The breakdown before the final chorus is a dream for any hard rock band. Absolutely brilliant. On top of that in the final chorus Pau goes off beat. Throughout the song Pau beaks down the rhythm only for Ale to stitch it back with a strong bass line.
Excellent observations! Thanks very much for watching and chiming in with this good info! 🤟
@@MetalProfessor65 Thank you for an insightful analysis of More.
I think it's too soon to tell which direction, if any, the ladies are going. One song doesn't make a trend. Besides, the band's other albums have a mix of music. I was concerned the ladies were going to go in a very hard rock direction based on their Mayday EP (I'm not a huge fan of Disciple and Evolve). Then they released the second half of the Error album that balanced out the much heavier first half.
Thanks for watching and commenting! It's interesting that many people want the band to go heavier, while others want the band to go lighter, yet all still listen to the albums. This suggests that A) you can't please everybody, and B) The Warning make really good music that appeals to a wide spectrum of listeners. 🤘 @@robertott1172
When I first heard this song I thought maybe one of the girls had a beau. Later the girls in an interview said the song was about the fans. Ah, got it. The record company wanted a catchy radio friendly free radio song. The girls went to L.A. for song writing sessions with various other writers. The girls are great with poetic lyrics. So they came up relationship type sex innuendo song. A little racy with innuendos. Top it off with an innocence teasing visual video. Brilliant. 👏 👏 👏 I love it.
The Warning has Taken influences like Nine Inch Nails, New Order and Sonic Youth to do this song "More", their future is so bright! ⚡⚡⚡
Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction, probably because I agree with everything. I also interrupted this song to be about addition. Whether its sexual, substance or other is up to the listener to relate to. The very first time I heard the song, I did have a reaction to the hiphoppy/pop slash spoken part but it grew on me with each listen. Then I heard it live and I no longer had any question about it. This song hits hard and heavy when they play it live and fits in with the rest of their set perfectly.
Thanks much for watching and commenting! Yeah, I agree that it fits all kinds of addiction. 🤘
Big The Warning fan here. I like your take on this song and I very much like the vibe of it. It kicks ass live!
Right from the beginning, they've always put Muse as a major influence on them. Personally, I can see comparisons.
I basically grew up on a diet of hard rock/metal; everything from AC/DC to Slipknot, and all points in between. But they bring a breathe of fresh air to the scene. The maturity in their compositions, and the subject matter belies their youthful years.
Nicely put -- these are obviously three very intelligent young people. And as an aging metalhead, I appreciate their enthusiasm. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 🤟
I love how the warnings music is all very different. They don't limit themselves to a box.
Right on! Thanks for chiming in! 🤘
Yeah, as someone once said, if you're going to put the Warning in a box, you better have a really big box.
@@bradshagrin8352 😆
You are not the first one to call out Rob Zombie here. Lyrically both Pau and Dany have tried to steer us away from an overly heavy interpretation and said it can generally apply to all kinds of situations in which we crave MORE, from life. They emphasize repeatedly they want to showcase their fun side, and this video does that 100%. I love the song and all the people that were initially hung up on not liking it for whatever reason have by now crawled back under their rock. They'll stick their head up and complain as soon as the next song is released. So basically I'd say you got it spot on. Thanks. (Personally I get a 90s alternative rock vibe and that's ok with me.)
Thanks for the info--and for watching & chiming i🤘n!
@@g.garcia7151 Yes you're right, and there is no reason anybody has to like it, and you've obviously given it thought, but if you look at some of the comments from the first week or two there were lots of half-baked opinions flying around. They are no exception, every band contends with the "sellout" calls. I'm old enough to know Wire as well and their Pink Flag album is one great pop punk song from beginning to end. Same for the Undertones.
@@g.garcia7151 I know. I can’t deny there is a little “overprotective” problem. People don’t want them to change because they have such an emotional attachment to the band. Some people. I’m as big a fan as anyone, but I’ve also been following music for 4 decades so am a bit more realistic about change.
I just found your channel when you did part 1 on The Warning and was like how have i never seen this channel? Then looked at the subs and realized it's a smaller/newer channel. I had no idea by watching your content, I was expecting at least 100k subs. I like the format and delivery of it all. Can't wait for part 2!
Wow, thanks very much! I've been hammering out vids for three years now, and I *hope* I've finally found a groove: making the vids is fun therapy, but I'm gratified finally to have gotten monetized just three weeks ago. (So far I've earned enough for a wild trip to McDonald's--woohoo!) Thanks very much for watching and commenting!
I've been enjoying your breakdowns and pretty much agree with all of it. I, too, am sick of all the sub-genre labels. I am a fellow reactor and musician (Though not as knowledgeable as you seem to be) and appreciate the amount of thought and time you put into these. In my covers of their songs I usually try to approach the subject matter and arrangement from an older person's perspective because their music is relatable no matter the age. Keep doing Warning and I am sure someone else has said that there are no synths on this track, it is all guitar effects. Pretty cool.
Thanks very much! I'll check out your vids 🤟
It's like Nightwish. Dubbed Symphonic Metal, but they are so much more than that. They have their own sound. The Warning says they are a ROCK band, and they have an unmistakable sound. NW is 27yrs old. TW is 10ish yrs old. Both are still evolving. 5 measures and you know it is them, because of their 'sound'.
As Lemmy said..."We are Motorhead, and we play rock & roll!" 🤘
I can alsi hear some Royal Blood in the song, and i hate labeling Music, i just like it or i don't, and i love more and every time i listen to it, it just grows on me...also, the girls have show us that they are evolving in every album it has never been the same and that is another thing i like about them, and one last thought, the best thing about them is that it doesn't matter the song you can always tell it is "The Warning".
Greetings from Mexico!!!!
Great analysis! When that chorus kicks in, that's rock!
Thanks so much! (And I agree--the chorus absolutely kills!) 🤘
Interesting. This song is at least somewhat controversial. It isn't my favorite, although it was better in concert. It was certainly very well received in Boston.
I fully expect that at some point they're going to do something I don't like. That's fine. They're entirely too creative to be boxed in to any one sound. There's plenty of Beethoven I don't like also, which doesn't mean it's bad.
Well put, and thanks for chiming in! 🤟
Well put, and thanks for chiming in!🤟
I really dislike money. I skip it when listening to Error.
@@TessT101it hits hard live… but I like bands that have different sound like TW
Thanks for your analysis, I hadn't thought of "addiction" when we asked what the song was about, but it fits very well. I had focused it on mobile phones, which in a nutshell also create an addiction and maintaining that relationship is toxic.
Every band expirements with their sound. The Beatles pop in my mind. Still has The Warning sound.
I love this song. I like to crank it in my car while driving in my neighborhood. People need to hear it, lol. 💯👯♀️🌟🇲🇽⚡️
😂 I do the same thing.
Great analysis, I enjoyed that. The fact I've heard so many different interpretations of what genre this song is, I feel like The Warning are on to something! It's a great song with a great vibe, genre doesn't really matter!
This WAS not one of my favorite songs by them, until now. It’s definitely grown on me…It reminds me of Garbage a bit. And I never noticed the White Zombie influence until you mentioned it! I’m a big fan of TW…Can’t wait to see them live. They are just amazing! I wish more radio stations would play them. YES, I still tune in to the old FM radio stations while I drive! 😂
Nothing wrong with a good FM fix during a commute! Thanks for watching and commenting! 🤟
They did a session in early 2023 in Los Angeles where they collaborated with several different song writers/composers. “More” was the first result from that. It should be anticipated that other collabs will end up on the album they are recording right now.
When I first heard MORE my interpretation was immediately an artist/creator battling with their muse. As a graphic artist that is how the lyrics hit me. That relationship can be rewarding, fulfilling, satisfying…pushing endorphins almost like a drug. It can be dangerous, damaging, destructive. It is like an addiction. This interpretation is just my own.
Everything you hear as synth effects are done by Dany on her guitar, according to Anton Delost, co-writer and producer of the song.
I think a lot of people expected that the fourth album should be something made from an already established settled hard rock band, following the classic pattern where the bands on their fourth album already show themselves as a settled band, instead the warning came across whit a single that showed a band still experimenting, and I think that puzzled to many, but I guess people don't seems to realize that most of the classic bands when they released their fourth album their members were already around 30 and some of them had settled down, but the warning have the age at which most of them start but with the experience of an established band, they have the experience of a mature band but the curiosity of a young band (because they are) and that's what's fascinating about them, just imagine how far a band with these characteristics can go
Paul and John were 24 and 26 when they changed music with Revolver.
Oh yeah. I like that this band is branching out rather than settling in. Thanks for watching! 🤘
And that's the thing about *musicians* as opposed to folks who want only to be "rock stars." The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Iron Maiden, The Warning--just to grab a handful of names not quite at random--all fit into the "musician" category IMHO. Thanks for chiming in! @@gaylewest3663 🤘
In a world encapsulated in rap-pop music, they need a breakthrough song..."More" seems to be making a tiny dent on it. For Pepsi to take the risk of including it in a commercial in Mexico, it's gotta say something, it's a good start...
"More" sounds like something I like to listen to. I really don't care about genre or labels on music. If its good, I'll listen. Thanks you for your insight on this song.
It was my pleasure, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks much for watching and chiming in! 🤘
Excellent analysis
Thanks, man! I appreciate your watching and commenting! 🤘
Was hoping for part 2 today but ill take it! Great analysis, very intuitive and entertaining. Earned a sub 🤘
More...🤔...love it. The Warning is different from other bands because they march to their own beat. I would call "More" funky rock if putting a name to it.
👏👏👏⚡️⚡️⚡️🤘🤘🤘
Thanks for watching and commenting! I, too, enjoy that the band seems to do what they *want* to do rather than what they might be told they *should* do. We can't know this for certain, of course, but that's the impression I get. 🤘
The Warning is following the Rush playbook almost to the letter, difference being they didn't have to prove themselves to a record company. They just kept control of their music through massive support. Whether intended or not, The Warning are on a mission to save R&R. It took 4 albums for Rush to get where The Warning were from day one. They already have their own sound, but the style of that sound will change through the entirety of their career. Get ready for a wild ride, if you all have the courage to stick around ❤🤘🥳
Good bands are always changing their sound. Take Rush and Dream Theater...sound changes about every 3 albums...so, no problem from me on The Warning changing their sound from time to time.
Great attitude, and thanks much for watching and chiming in! 🤟
Thank you Brother !!! My Top 3 favorite = Dream Theater .... Unleash the Archers...... The Warning ..... Sonic change is Goodness !!!
Hey Prof, i agree that TW is branching out, can't wait to see more growth. No band has pulled me in more, for years. I seem to have a revolving list of favorites, as each song "comes through" to me. I will touch on one in particular in another comment.
Sounds good! Thanks for chiming in! 🤘
If this is POP, then I like POP. 🤘The video is why they think it. Close your eyes, turn it up, and it's going to hit differently.
The Warning are clear about who contributed the most to a song, the order of the names in the credits is from most contribution to least. The first name listed for "More" is Ale, the only other song she is listed first is "Dust to Dust." That has to be a large part of why the song sounds different from the usual songs.
That's a good point! Thanks for chiming in! 🤘
I’ve have seen this song live and it rocks.
Nice! I hope this band comes within driving distance of me someday... 🤘
LOL THANK YOU! I swear I have been the only one who noticed the clear Rob Zombie similarity. Once mentioned, people would agree, but to hear somebody else recognize it without me having to mention it in the comments is nice. It definitely reminds me most of Living Dead Girl. It's peak Rob Zombie-style nu-metal, which is really "Dance music for The Hills Have Eyes family."
You're quite welcome, and thank YOU for watching the vid and commenting! Coincidentally, I saw Rob Zombie a week ago Friday, and at times I thought, "Yeah, this is like that Warning song." 😊🤟
Awsome reactions, What i like of the Warning they have many influences. They are broken musical forntiers.
There is a definite 'Poppy' element in MORE. The song is just a straight Banger though.
It ticks off boxes as much as Ale's bass does.
A new TWA sub today.
🤘😎👍⚡
Thanks so much! 🤟
I agree with what the members of The Warning have said, that they are experimenting a bit and having fun. All bands, no matter who they are do experiments with their sound every now and then. I am in the "not pop" group of fans and love the song. As long as the band remains true to rock, then I am all in. A few experimental songs are fine with me.
I'm pretty sure that "More" is one of their first song where they collaborated with other artists, on the writing credits is Anton Delost & Danielle Rubio in addition to Ale, Pau & Dany, I only within the past year discovered "The Warning" and currently they're one of my favorite bands. I think "More" is just an experimental collaboration song, even though it seems to have mixed genres it's still has the edge of "The Warning" and kicks ass in my opinion. Most likely the popish verse was written by the collaborating artists while the heavier parts were Ale, Pau & Dany. To be honest I don't care what genre it falls under, it's still a great song with a great hook in my opinion.
Well put! The band put up a short vid a few weeks ago in which they said that, yes, they spent a week (in L.A. IIRC) collaborating with other songwriters and that "More" was a result. Honestly, whenever a band that already has loads of talent starts bringing in other songwriters, it makes me fear they're going to lose some of what makes them special. But I agree with you that "More" is a great song, so let's hope the rest of their collaborations turn out this well. Thanks much for watching and chiming in! 🤘
Nice react ! Thanks.... yeah I do not know Why TW fans would "shy away" ... so to say" from this song . I Love it ! From their own comments they experimented and will keep on doing so just to explore "new things" (which I applaude) They caught Me like a fish about a year and a half ago ....... Their Whole catalogue is Amazing!! Cheers
The MV is kind of decieving of their live performances of the song. Like at the VMA music awards it sounds way more rock and not so popish . but it is a catchy song and cool to see them try new things
Agreed! It's maybe the most un-Warning song I've heard them do--and I think it's a really good, heavy song. Thanks for chiming in! 🤘
The Warning y su rock total ,todos los generos ,MORE , solo una muestra
For me that defines as "The Warning" and the song is great, in my humble opinion, these women are growing more and more and they sure have tried and are already trying new and different things, for those who don't like it, just listen to something else and that's fine.
By the way, I'm loving your teacher videos, your analysis and the way you present and talk in the video is great.
Thanks, man! I really appreciate the comment, the compliment, and of course your watching the vid in the first place! 🤘
Thank you for your analysis. Many who watched the girls grow up were concerned about the lyrics. A relationship with addiction is not a new topic for The Warning (ref. Black Holes). This should help a lot of people calm down.
You are quite welcome. Interesting that some were concerned about the lyrics. Regardless of whether any in the band or their close circle have experienced substance addition (and I truly hope they haven't--it's the most destructive interpersonal, familial thing imaginable, which I say without hyperbole), they've shown they can write about experiences they've never had. At least I hope that's the case, otherwise "Queen of the Murder Scene" takes on a whole new dimension...😳 Thanks very much for watching and commenting! 🤘
Cool analysis. Yes, they are so great at driving into the sonic train wreck! And coming right out of it usually as Pau does something amazing. The song is about the relationship between fans wanting more, and the artists wanting more, and the complex fan/performer relationship since suddenly having a big fan base must be a trip. That's what I get from it at least when I'm not just flipping out over the music, especially Ale's bass that holds down and pile drives through this jam where Dani smashes it with vocal and guitar and +vibes.
Thanks for watching and commenting, man! I had initially thought (and this is not an attempt to argue with you!) that the song might indeed be widely applicable. But lyrics such as "You like it when I'm broken" and "Something criminal but I can't fight it" belie that the song is about something positive. BUT, that having been said, one of the great things about music and literature is that we can take from a work the things that inspire us, and enjoy the rest of the work while disregarding elements that we wouldn't like. That's clearly a bad thing in, for example, politics, but it's great in music & other art! 🤘
Amen to that. We make great music our own, especially since TW lyrics are always vague around the edges... like you say 'widely applicable'
@@MetalProfessor65
@@erigoasparago Well put, sir! Music, for many of us, is such a deep, personal thing that I think often it is difficult to put into words why or how we respond to a specific song. Clearly, with this song, some people are not terrifically touched by it, whole many, many others love it. Thanks so much for watching and for entering the conversation! 🤟
Fuzz and Funk are mentioned often, and after some of my old school rock-funk songs popped up on Spotify recently, I think that is totally accurate.
Just stumbled upon your channel, and really appreciate your remarks. My first introduction to TW was their performance at the MTV VMAs. It never occurred to me to put More in the "pop" category. I think the video images of the girls having fun put people off, for some reason. It is hard to fit their music into a specific box. Compare More to, say, Automatic Sun, with those two-ton downtuned fuzzy guitars and all that steamy angst.
Who knows.
I loved your approach and the thoughtful respect behind it.
You have a new subscriber, and I'm looking forward to more of your content.
PS: i remember the girls saying that they wanted to have more fun on this album. Although almost all of the songs I've heard from Keep Me Fed have common lyrical threads (they all seem to be about love/hate relationships to someone/something), the music that seems to accompany those themes is....well...fun. I think these lyrics should be thought of as being more like literary tropes than serious songs about addiction (like Black Holes, for example). I think of their lyrics in the same way that i took the lyrics from from songs by Yes in the 70s. If they sound good in the song, then they're doing their job. Trying to figure out what they're "about" might be missing the point.
This song is a banger ..when you see it live you understand…It’s the kinda song that will be in a movie
Nice! Man, I hope this band someday comes within 200 miles of me, because I'd LOVE to see them... 🤘
How can one listen to Black Holes, Crimson Queen, Revenant, Breathe, 23, etc and not label them as balladeers? But how can one listen to 21st Century Blood, Unmendable,P.S.Y.C.H.O.T.I.C., Z, Evolve, etc and not call them hard rock? On the other hand, there's Queen of the Murder Scene, Dust to Dust, Stalker, More, etc which throws them in to the metal basket. The ladies bring to mind a line in a John Wayne western -"I don't think you better put that girl in a class with any of the
other girls you've known". My all time favorite group is The Beatles. You couldn't throw them into 1 basket either.
MORE! But Amour...Prof, check out this song is subtly VERY GOOD. As is often the case, Ale's bass starts it out, on top of a simple drum pattern. Dany sings, with almost no guitar, a common trope with TW. And can we say that Pau's lyrics are really good stuff? Then into the prechorus/chorus, where the music becomes kinda polyrhythmic, with just Pau's kick holding the beat, and awesome lyrics continue. Would you die for me? This section increases in intensity, and after this the music lopes along under (over) Ale's fantastic galloping bass line. The second verse continues with more of the same, oh! Come a little closer tear me apart like you promised that you would! The chorus becomes a bit more intense. THEN...in French...and BEAUTIFULLY pronounced French at that! Je t'aime pour toujour, mon coeur est tien...Je t'adore...Mexican sisters who speak flawless idiomatic English, and singing in French...come on! As with almost all TW songs I prefer the live versions. With Amour, we get Dany's two note sting during the chorus, not really present in the studio version. Only quibble, live, sometimes Dany struggles a bit in the last "Die for me" as she can be a bit off, perhaps changing vocal register. A SMALL quibble.
Amour is great. I used to skip it but now it's one of my favorites. Dany's vocal delivery is sublime.
I'll check out that song--thanks for the tip! 🤘
I really like the Rob Zombie call out, hadn't heard it before. While there are some obvious "pop" influences in the song, it's pretty obviously still a rock/metal song. And if you ever hear it live, it's even more obvious that it's not a pop song because it's *way* heavier live. While it's not my favorite song of theirs, it's still a solid song and I like that they're experimenting to keep things fresh. I really expect that this new album is going to be heavy on the experimentation from the hints they've been dropping in interviews. Really enjoyed your analysis.
There's absolutely nothing metal about more.
When I first heard it I thought about it being a harder rock version of some of the 80s music. Mix Prince and Robert Palmer together, but with more attitude. It has really grown on me.
⚡✌️🤘⚠️⚡As others have said, a lot of those with POP opinions , their first experience with this song or even with TW in general was the Video... I think the video has just mind bent a lot of people. If they just listened to the song a bit before ever seeing the video, I agree it is a bit of a different sound for TW, and may have a more radio friendly sound, and even if a lil pop thrown in?? It's just The Warning and it Rocks. About addiction in General, of any Kind. It fits their current album as well. A good song makes everyone feel what they will, just feel something and it works! Peace and Health to All! Rock On TW Army!⚡✌️🤟⚠️⚡
I get the feeling that the band wants to surprise-and sometimes annoy-the fan base. Things like collaborating with Alessia Cara and releasing the Choke remix we’re not entirely popular either.
I heard a lot of 90s alt rock.. L7, Bjork, STP, etc. Didn't really think about Rob Zombie, but once you pulled up the samples, yeah, 100% seeing that. Love this song, regardless.
Thanks for watching & chiming in! 🤘
Who were the great experimenters? The Beatles. (Queen as well). The best bands don't do the same thing over and over. They vary. Looking forward to following The Warning on this trip
"More" vibes of Muse "Supermassive Black Hole" though harder. Not as groovy, smooth, and linear as SMBH. "More" has ... more changes within the song. The heavy fuzz and driving force of the song in "More" is in the bass, until the chorus, while it is in the guitar in "SMBH." The theme lyrically of both songs is similar.
There is nothing poppy about "More" when TW play it live. It is definitely hard and heavy.
Why not? Muse is their unanimous favorite band. They also mentioned that no synths were used in the song. All the distortion and effects were through the guitar and bass.
I guess I need to check out Muse! Thanks for watching and chiming in! 🤘
The Warning is working on a new genre. Called The Warning. 😂
Ha! Love it! 🤘
I would not have caught the Rob Zombie connection without the recent viral resurgence of "Dragula" - strange, but you're really on to something there, yeah, there's definitely a sonic connection. About addiction? I never got that, but again, I think you're right. The substance is the person... wow, that's a new angle...
Agreeeee!!!! Totally!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘😎
66 here also. The more I listen to The Warning and their moving around of musicial styles, the more think of another small time group that, pretty much, did the same thing. Led Zeppelin.
Is The Warning the new Led Zeppelin? I hope so. Rock music today needs it.
if i like it i don't care what labels want to apply..and i LOVE More
Great take! MORE is different than their previous material and I am curious how much of that was influenced by the two additional writers working with the band on this one. I personally enjoy the live version over the studio version because it just rocks harder live in my opinion. As far as the lyrics go, I feel you're on the right track although the band has stated in one interview that the song was about them rocking out for their fans and in another interview they said it was about wanting more out of life. Their explanations made no sense to me because that's not what I'm getting from the lyrics. I definitely think the song is about a toxic/addictive relationship. Now what that is specifically is can be left up to interpretation. It could be about anything from substance addiction to sexual addiction. I guess trying to figure out the specific meanings is part of what makes music fun! Either way, the whole song was cleverly done. I also feel that the music and the video in a sense camouflage the actual lyrics if that makes any sense. And you're right about the band going backwards in a sense in terms of their musical evolution. I look forward to their next album to see what directions they choose to branch out into.
Whoa interesting interpretation. My first thought was it was about addiction to consumerism. Kind of like Z.
I think that addiction to consumerism, fame, gambling, drugs, relationships, et al would all fit this song. Substance abuse is the first thing that came to my mind because I've seen a lot of it. Thanks for chiming in! 🤘
I think the video looks pop but not the song,,,Dany will never let this band go Pop! She loves to rock hard!!🤘 i
A woman of my own heart! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 🤟
Interesting take on what the song is about. It explains the title. I like the song but I prefer the songs they've been doing the last two years or so. I also prefer their live (Teatro Metropolitan) or live in the studio videos where they are or pretend to be playing all the way through. Anyway, great analysis.
Thanks, man! I really appreciate your watching and commenting! 🤘
Yesterday they perform this song in the VMAs Extended Play Stage and sounds harder than the studio version, maybe the voice of Danny or the energy their put in their performance but sounds different and with more rock energy.
I agree, the VMA version sounds great! Thanks for watching and joining the conversation! 🤘
Great call on the Rob Zombie vibes. I could not put my finger on it but that influence (if indeed it was) is what I hear in this song.
Thanks! Yeah, it's certainly possible they weren't influenced at all by Rob Zombie but just produced something that sounds a little like him. In any case, thanks for watching & commenting! 🤘
More reminds me of the songs of Garbage in their first two albums. Which i love.
excelente trabajo en analizar su nuevo sencillo de la banda... 🤘🤘⚡
Metal/pop maybe? I think this song is about Dany's love of donuts and I can relate to that.
each album has variety, little bit all over the place, I know Dany will keep the rock in the family, she and rock have too much energy to part ways, Ale and Pau seem to like the kpop japan influence a little more, i expect they will continue to explore tho, thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for watching and chiming in -- let's cheer Dany on in her efforts to keep the Rock! 🤟
Thanks so much for watching and chiming in! Let's wish Dany good fortune in keeping the rock! 🤟
This song is so adorable, funky and sexy.
As long as it makes us smile, does it matter?!🤘
It sure doesn't! As I say in the vid, I personally don't care how we categorize the band: it's just fun to talk about, and this specific song is just so *interesting* that I wanted to make a vid about it right away. 😊 I really appreciate your watching and chiming into the discussion! 🤘
Exactly, @@MetalProfessor65, and all those who struggle with the song could simply ask themselves whether the song makes them happy.🙂 Also, played live it rocks! Great vid!🤘
@@gurlix Thanks so much for watching and for entering the conversation! 🤟
First and foremost, you can argue about sub genre all you want but you missed a big difference between studio and live performances of this particular song.
If you’ve heard them play it live or watched a live video it’s much heavier sounding in that regard.
I personally love TW’s first 2 studio albums because they sound less produced (rawer) than the Error album or the studio version of More.
I don’t think More is as lyrically complex as most of their other songs. Most of their previous songs are completely written by them. More was a collaboration with outside songwriters and it sounds like this may be the trend with TW4.
You have to take what the band says at face value about TW4. They have said they want to experiment with new styles but have also said they don’t want to completely leave their rock/hard rock roots. TW4, when released, will answer what direction they’re heading in at least for 1 album. Every album released so far has been somewhat stylistically different anyways.
You have to think that commercial success is an important factor for the band and more importantly the label.
They have gotten far by doing things their way but they may or may not be getting pressure from the label to write music that appeals to a broader and younger audience.
After all, at the end of the day and artistic integrity considered, it’s still “all about that cold hard cash, hon”.
They are amazing high character people but they still have to function in todays music industry to get where they want to be.
One thing to note: at one point at least they said the tracks recorded this year (at least two more are unreleased) were not for TW4, and that those tracks were largely written earlier. Obviously this could change, but the sound of More might be different than TW4.
right to the point!!!!! #TheWarningQueensOfRock #TheWarningReinasDelRock
Very nice analysis! I never thought about it being pop. Maybe people get distracted by the video. To me, it is a blend of grunge and hard rock/metal. Altogether, I we should be careful with these categories. My impression is, the band manages to merge many different kinds of styles covering 3 1/2 decades of heavy guitar - bass - drum music. If that is pop, then the Muse is as well. Which isn't - in fact - wasn't twenty years ago.
I am enjoying your insightful pieces on this band (and have liked them so-far), but 0:38 when is the second part coming?? Only because I want to hear your opinion....more than three months later...
Thanks! I'm hoping to get on the deep dive into and "More" soon, but as a one-man operation I don't always get to things as quickly as I'd like. But don't give up! 🤘
like what you just said, who cares if it is pop or not
It's odd to me how very many people put so much stock in labels. Pop, rock, hard rock, metal, whatthefuckever...if I like the music, I like the music, regardless of the label. For me, it's just fun to talk about categories, especially when there's such a wide range of things that people put into the same broad areas (Metal, obviously, is what I'm thinking of here). Thanks for watching! 🤘
🤘⚠️great reaction, I enjoyed ⚠️🤘
Rock just Rock 🤘🤘🤘
Thanks, man! 🤘
Brilliant! I appreciate that you reference the music clip it sounds like. Thanks to you I had to go back to Iron Maiden and for sure can hear the similarities. Thanks professor!
You're very welcome--thanks for watching and chiming in! 🤘
I don't really care what you call it, all I care about is that I like it. I listen to many genres, it is the songs that speak to me not the genre, hell I even have a couple of rap tracks I like yet I can't stand rap in general, same with jazz. More is a great song at least to me, I do hope though that the girls don't leave their rock sound too far behind, but I'm happy to see where they go.
Fantastic attitude! Thanks for chiming in! 🤘
Good commentary, addiction is a big theme through many of their lyrics. To me the “rock vs pop” debate really misses the point of their music-Pau once said they do pop melodies with metal instrumentation. If you listen to all their discography you can see this has always been true. There’s a song on Queen of the Murder Scene that had a working title of “homage to K-pop” (I think The Sacrifice). With More the live version sounds harder because the arrangement is less pop-polished. Bands such as Queen, My Chemical Romance and Muse certainly used pop elements. Bring Me the Horizon has certainly shown you can lean into pop without leaving the heavy music scene.
Do you know when Pau said that?
@@thebamboo8034 not sure exactly, it was on one of her Instagram live sessions, maybe a year or so ago. She’s talked about K-pop quite often however-apparently there are some melodic elements that she borrows.
@@markjames8664 and she talked also about Metal influences in the songs?
Interesting! I'd like to see/hear that discussion. The reference to Queen is apt, although Queen tended to bounce even farther from song to song. We'll see if The Warning go in a Prog Rock/Metal direction at some point (I suspect they will, even if for only an album). Thanks for watching and commenting! 🤘
TANTAS BANDAS LEGENADARIAS QUE SE DICE NO CAMBIAN QUE SOLO MODIFICAN SUS EXITOS PASADOS, WARNING SON MUSICOS QUE SABEN LO QUE QUIEREN Y SABEN SORPENDER, VARIAR EN SUS PRESENYACIONES ES LO QUE DA CUERPO A LOS CONCIERTOS... GUITARRAZO DE DISFRUTE
It’s sung from the perspective of their cat 😂
Well, cats are the planet's superior species, after all. Just ask one! 🤘
Not about addiction, about wanting more out of life.
you like the bands or not , but it's about music in general . On all the albums I have there's always on [ or two ] songs I like less [because rock, pop, metal, whatever ] that comes with the territory I guess. That doesn't mean the band sucks, you can't make it all right for everybody
You are completely correct: you can't please everyone. Thanks for watching and chiming in! 🤘
I honestly think people think pop due to the video. When they heard the song before the video, I never heard a mention of pop
COMPLETELY agree--I actually included that sentiment in an early draft of my script but scrapped it for brevity's sake. Thanks for the validation! (And please keep watching the channel--the demographics right now are 96% male, which means I'm missing more than half the population!) 🤘
Great song, I wouldn’t call it pop, but sounds like it would fit Garbage or No Doubt better than it does The Warning. Note I really like all these bands, but there is something about this song that as cool as it is it doesn’t feel like 100% The Warning…. To me at least.
I think it is hard to define exactly what The Warning’s sound is. They have a lot of traditional rock songs but 23 is closer to pop in many ways. I don’t think they want to get pinned down.
@@markjames8664 I agree. I think overall I would call it hard rock, but they are so experimental that some songs can be classified as other type of music, or even within one song you can get different styles of music.
Great conversation between you guys here! I love it! @@markjames8664 🤘
Great conversation between you guys here! I love it! 🤘 @@raulvargas5356
Live it’s comes off much heavier
The Warning is musically kind of all over the place as far as the genres go. Are they Metal? When they want to be. Dust to Dust is metallic. Matirio is proggy. Narcisista total power-pop. They are a lot like another power trio...I dunno...RUSH?!
As for the song, it's a catchy comment on the social media relationship that the band has with their fans. The question is who manipulates who? Does their audience manipulate the band, or is it the other way around? It's more of a push-pull relationship. Is it an addictive social media relationship? It can be. Did anyone notice that the band's playroom in the video looks a lot like the Warning Cave? It's a very complex comment on the Warning's fandom experience.
Great statement: "Are they Metal? When they want to be." All the greats of Hard Rock and Metal are like that: they do what they want, and they do it well. Regarding the comments about the band/fan experience through the "More" video, wow! I had no idea of such things (but I'm certainly going to google "The Warning Cave"). Thanks much for watching & chiming in! 🤘
@@MetalProfessor65 The Warning Cave is the space in the basement that their father set aside as their rehearsal space. It's been their HQ for the last 13 years.
That is so damned cool and cute I can hardly express it. As if there weren't enough reasons already to love these talented ladies!@@menot2993
@@MetalProfessor65 And as you run further down that rabbit hole, you'll hear the account of their ill fated encounter with Disney. Disney Entertainment is constantly expending its pool of Hispanic talent and the Warning were considered. However, Disney recommended that they stop playing their instruments and just do pop vocals. Given the choice of giving up playing their instruments live for Disney, they told Disney to pound sand. Eventually, they were signed to Lava/Republic which is known for distributing young rock acts.
@@menot2993 Good for them! Thanks for the info!
The sound is "The Warning", a genere wich the best song of this band is the last song you hear. Try and tell.
Great observation! Thanks for chiming in! 🤟
Peter Gabriel and Lzzy had a child. This is smart, sexy and fun! Pure Warning music. Ale wrote this one.
Heh, nicely put. :) Interesting that Ale wrote it--thanks for the info! 🤘
Technically, it wasn't just Ale. This is their first production for the label that brought in outside writers.
Ale wasn’t the sole author, but certainly a lot of the power of the song comes from her bass. This is actually the first song she recorded as an adult (if only 18), and I think she’s got skills not fully seen on previous work (she was only 15 when the Error album was recorded!).
Oh, she's remarkably good--for a bassist of any age! Thanks for commenting! 🤘@@markjames8664
