Since he and I are good friends and I've worked with Nintendo before the Nintendo Switch days, I thought I would talk about my experiences, what Wood is going through right now, and why I decided NOT to work with them currently.

Modding, emulating a Nintendo game and showing that online will get you by Nintendo. It's a red flag.

Nintendo and the internet... don’t mix most of the time. And that’s disappointing. But oh well, it has been like that for a long time.
Nintendo is a very conservative company, and they love to cut costs on dev of their titles. That, and they know their games will sell like pancakes. If fans really want to see changes with Nintendo and their lack of good online features....they need to stop buying their games, and then we will see a much different Nintendo going forward. We know that won't be happening anytime soon tho ;)

It's really good to see you guys standing up for one another! All the hard work that comes from BeatEUp and the great video's and support and love he has for Nintendo; Now Nintendo does this to him out of nowhere is pretty dark indeed! Keep fighting the good fight guys! I hope they realize the mistake they have made doing this to him.
It's been a total nightmare for us. Literally every company will provide games for coverage and are super responsive. Nintendo has been the opposite of that unfortunately.
I'm really glad to hear you're fully independent, that's very cool. Here in the UK we can't even become ambassadors without a website. Hats off for making this, Wood is a good guy he worked with us when we were 30k when others ignored us. Good video mate.

Your channel has come a very long way over the last year at least from what I've noticed. Keep up the great work!
Lets be real here. He uploaded a video playing breath of the wild ON A PC THROUGH THE CEMU EMULATOR. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know why they drop him from the program. All the mental health bs is just being used to undermine the fact that he brought it up on himself for messing up badly. Nothing has changed other than he cannot call himself an ambassador and he still get free codes for reviews and such if he asks for them.

it was 100% this. Japanese culture won't let Nintendo directly state that that's the reason though to save face for him, not for them. They're being polite by not telling him or saying it directly. This is not a defense of Nintendo's action, they're pretty much the worst company when it comes to how they treat their fans.
There is no way it isnt, in order to mod a Nintendo game, you have to bypass the switch's copy protection. By making a modding video, viewers trying to do the same will also have to bypass it, and have the ability to dump switch roms. Im not saying casual modders pirate games, but a company like nintendo cannot sue people who bypass protection for piracy and endorse people who do it for modding.
@@ConsumerOfCringe He was playing a Wii U emulator and added mods. Nintendo is the reason why some of the best rom. sites have been taken down. And there's a chance emulation could be illegal.

This type of video where the creator deviates from their standard formula is always welcome to me. If it gets stale later on in the future but for now, please make more of this content. It would be nice to have your thoughts on other experiences you've been through.

Nintendo dropped him because he pirated and emulated BOTW on pc and made a video of the various mods you can install in the game
I personally don't see an issue, he prob bought multiple copies of BOTW over the years, but we all know how Nintendo is. I think if you own the damn thing, you should be able to play it however you want, on whatever you want. I also understand that the version played on the pc is from the WiiU, but again, I can gaurantee he has more than one copy...and not playing them at the exact same time.
Edit: I suppose they could use the argument of mods if all else failed, but c'mon lol.

@@dknotts30 It's not really how legal emulators are but more like an ambassador going "hey kids, you can play a flagship Nintendo Switch game without even buying the system to play it... And it can also play better than it would on the Switch" That alone is more than enough reason to drop him.

You make what he did sound way worse then it was, he took a game he bought already, and ran it on PC using an emulator, adding mods to change/enhance the game.
I'm sure Nintendo wants to get the word out about their games with the biggest audience possible but the moment you "promote" using an emulator to play a Nintendo game (which you don't have to pay for) they will drop you like a sack of sh!#

Its amazing. I ended up paying $500 on Ebay for a new regular Switch as a result. I've already got all of the Switch games that I want. Lite is great, I got one of the last ones in store, but I love the games so much that I wanted to play them on TV

It's not really him saying to go out and try this. He started off the video even say HE just wanted to try some cool mods he has seen. Also it is not like he does not own the game so he is not really stealing it by downloading. He did not hack his switch or anything like that so really not seeing what he did wrong. He added mods on a PC version of the game on a emulator of a game he already owned. It all seems pretty legal to me. I do think he probably should have avoided any mod videos because Nintendo is a bit touchy on that stuff but just looking at the video it seems fine by me but he should have been a little smarter as a partner with Nintendo and knowing their policy on such things as Modding and having fun with games. =)

In my opinion, Nintendo broke up with Wood because of his BOTW modding video. Which was pretty hilarious to be honest! And possibly one of my favorite videos of his channel. But Nintendo just don't like that kind of stuff.
Martin Paoloni definitely not...because other people had been dropped the same day as wood..I believe that it was coincidence. They would have either warned him or told if right then there to take it off or they would had dropped him.. also I see a pattern. The bigger you get the less Nintendo does stuff for you. Back then wood used to curse and stuff but never had been dropped. Also the other people that had been dropped didn’t make a mod video

Metroid is actually my fav gaming franchise, but even so I think it's more accurate to say that Nintendo rarely ever does anything intelligently. They just happen to get lucky at times -- right time, right place -- and always have the support of their fans. Rory Kebel I think they can be lazy, they definitely don’t use their potential. Their abundance of IPs and exclusives literally give them the title of “Disney of video games” where people hope they use all of them the best they can someday.
But honestly, they seem to just have a couple good games they focus on to profit, then slack off on other things. But they have things in the back if all else fails (look how quickly they went from Wii U to switch).

If you’ve ever read “Game Over: How Nintendo Conquered the World”, you’ll know that when it comes to intellectual property, the big N does not play around.
In some countries they are legally obligated to do just that. If they don't it can be used as a defence against them.

Sonic games struggle critically, but if I'm not mistaken, they still sell well. And they have tons and tons of other IPs. They are one of the biggest publishers/developers in the industry. How can something that would be beneficial to Sega be a detriment to Nintendo?

It really isn’t “and now”. He said he stopped working with them when his channel started gaining ground a long time ago. Based on sales Nintendo has their stuff together.
I wrote reviews for a Canadian game website that had a Nintendo specific sister site. Any time I wrote a negative review of a game Nintendo sent me (mostly Gamecube games) I was asked to be “less harsh”. My editor in chief didn’t like when I trashed games because it hurt his relationships with his marketing contacts. So I’m sure things could have changed since the early 2000s, but I 100% believe a lot of small channel/website reviews are written with a positive lean.

To be honest this reminds me of a German youtuber called Domtendo. He's the biggest German Nintendo youtuber who used to work with him
He would get video games and other stuff related to Nintendo from Nintendo Germany. But when he got bigger they stopped reaching out to him or didn't reach out to him as much as they used to. Maybe it's because he's got over a million subscribers (nearly a million subscribers back then)
He does get invited to several events but he didn't get much from Nintendo in the last few years. But he's still a very dedicated Nintendo gamer and enthusiast
I hope they will reach out to him some time in the future but no one knows for certain

I honestly think it’s because of the Zelda mod and the quality of woods content. I used to love his channel but his content became so cringy and clickbaity, especially with those “IM ADDICTED TO THIS GAME” videos every week. A lot of people complained about this too so that’s probably why
It definitely was, Nintendo is just not that big on modding, especially since going through the modding process on consoles is the same as the emulation process on consoles if I'm correct.
It's strange that gamexplain and nintendo life have never ever ever something negativ to say about nintendo. Not even obvious things.
GameXplain have said some negative stuff about Nintendo... But it's usually just Nintendo not pleasing their biased personal nostalgia.
I personally don't know how anyone can stand making CZcams videos on a regular basis, and always have to worry about copyright stuff and strict rules etc. I was just barely getting into making CZcams videos 10 years, making game related videos, showing my collections etc. But I got SO fed up with getting copyright strikes on my channel (either because of some music I was playing, or some video I wasn't allowed to show) that it took all of my joy away from making videos. So after closing my public account, I never had any interest in coming back. Too darn many rules.
Nintendo and other old Japanese companies seem to think that the internet does not exist unless if it suits their side alone.
They take NDAs seriously and anything like console mods and emulations are strictly a taboo for those who work with Nintendo who want to keep their jobs.
Thanks for your feedback on Nintendo. I like Wood a lot and enjoy his videos, but he broke the cardinal rule at Nintendo: don't mess with the IPs. He moded Zelda BOTW and showed it to the public, a huge no no. It's similar to breaking a non-disclosure agreement.
Nintendo should quit bitching. They overcharge for literally everything they sell and put little effort into most games.

He has also been given the freedom to say whatever he needs to say. In many ways the golden handcuffs have been taken off.
Perhaps Nintendo was more willing to give perks while they were tanking with Wii u, and rebuilding with Switch. They're comfortably back in the game now with how well Switch has done, so they probably just don't need these content creators much at the moment.

He's the only reason I even bought a switch (stupidly before I thought it was just another Wii, a half console for families) and I love it now. more so than my ps4.
With out wood I would never of tried it. I have now bought three switch consoles, 100s of games both eshop and physical and numerous accessories, majority based on his recommendations and videos.

He was an ambassador to their program and uploaded a video bragging about how much better BOTW looked and ran on a PC emulator compared to Wii U and Switch. He said what the mods were. He joked about killing a Mario modded character. It isn't rocket science here. The company saw it as betrayal and I have to agree with them

On that note, I just have to say that I do not own or play breath of the wild for i believe it to be a deeply lacking game, but I think it runs amazingly and is a perfect foundation, and i think that breath of the wild 2 and metroid prime 4 could possibly be two of the greatest video games ever made, and if so they could be looked at post release as kind of "twin twin" titles of a link to the past and super metroid. Does that make any sense? I am hoping this may be the case at least.

Guy picking super mario maker 2 as the worst game of 2K19 while it was also his favorite, ignoring massive bugs/unfinished content in games during his reviews(Warface). His channel name is Beatemups, yet all I see are animal crossing/zelda videos instead of even a streets of rage 4 review? Sorry but he is fake, so in the end, he gets what he deserves in my opinion.
