Nintendo offering only the full-year, $50 subscription option is a real dirty move.
That's what I'm saying,was hoping for a 90 day option
I thought it was just me, like something was wrong on my end. Bullshit move.
it’s 50 bucks. it’s a few hours work jesus. get a job
@@karnige5804 they are N64 games, for 50$ they better work online flawlessly
It's because they know no one is going to pay for terrible emulation more than once.
The good: you can play n64 anywhere you want
The bad: everything else
Not without an internet connection.

Not if you dont have internet
@@daveysden4574 of course not

Only way I would get this “expansion” is if they give me all the Metroid games up to Fusion. Like how the Wii had in the past.
Sounds good to me.
You had to pay for them separately on wii
Preach
I would wait like a year or two to get it bc i assume they will have like gamecube and wii at some point
@@leroyboi3277 that will be a long ways away
If I had it my way, I would like to choose which systems I’d get with my online subscription and have that determine the price. Let me just have N64 and SNES and maybe charge $30 and I’ll be more on board for the service. I have the Sega Genesis Collection on Switch and I have forgotten about Animal Crossing so this isn’t really for me just yet.
What I’m really trying to say is that I’m just waiting for Paper Mario and Banjo-Kazooie!
If I had it my way, there would be no subscription nonsense and they would let us just buy the games
I would be so happy to be able to play banjo again
Banjo you can already play on Xbox and pc and Nintendo 64
Download the games on Wii U (if you have one) it's much cheaper. I have Paper Mario on mine
I am waiting on Donkey Kong 64! and I always wanted to play Banjo Kazooie so Im with you on that one.
I'm glad to see that even with the new background we still get to hear RGT start over & repeat himself (& forget to edit it out) when he makes a mistake! 😂
Thats the best part ;)
I truly love these screw ups haha
Yup. He's back. Editing and all 0:46 😆
He nailed it @9:46 as well!👌🏻
The best course of action is NOT buying it, then Nintendo will have to make it worth your money.
Best comment
We'll have to see if people do that...
Or they gonna be that one game where the dev was like "ether biy it or we are not gonna make anouther one EVER AGAIN cuz if you dont buy it means you never want it"
Nintendo doesnt care what we want or think and they dont even know rgt85 even exists and they dont listen to any of his good ideas.
Well unfortunately, the people complaining about the Nintendo Switch Online service are the minority. The average parent, who has money, is gonna buy little Jimmy an Nintendo Switch with the online expansion. While the rest of the community try to boycott a billion dollar company on Twitter. Just saying.
I'm unbelievably disappointed. I was so excited when this service was originally announced. But the price absolutely killed it for me and Nintendo is showing now appreciation to those that have paid for the base service, regardless of the rapid reduction in quality (talking specifically about the games added in the last year). Very disappointed, not spending my money.
Agreed. They threw together a measely collection of games and charge too much. I will just hook up my N64 and play the games at home at no additional cost.
@@lukasmeza2352 hahahah man. What is $50 smh.

The fact anyone has lag because Nintendo doesn’t host the online is preposterous.
Paying Nintendo to connect to someone else’s wifi seems legit
Do u want to pay more?
@@csq7871 why would anyone want to pay more its already a rubbish service, even if they had dedicated servers its still overpriced
@@Goblinqing more features requires a higher price. That is why xbox live & psn are $60. NSO is $20
The price is too high, but the games added so far are mostly stellar games. I could only really recommend the service if you can jump in on a family plan with some friends, or people online so you can get it for cheaper. Otherwise, may be wise to hold off until more updates become available.
In response to Nintendo's pricing, I put $50 on my Nintendo account. Then I went over to the Wii-U and spent ~$40 all the NES, SNES, GBA, and N64 games I wanted to play that I didn't already have on it (such as all the Metroids and Zeldas among several others). Finally I turned off the automatic renewal on my Switch Online sub.
I had the sub for 2 years, hoping it would get better and more fleshed out as time went on. With this pricing release and looking at how much I actually used the online service features... naaaah. I'll miss being able to move my Witcher 3 save between the Switch and my PC, and being able to use other players' Pawns in Dragon's Dogma (Switch still had a lively Pawn population compared to the PC and Xbox versions). I just can't justify paying $20/yr for a service that seems to have become so feature stagnant just for the benefit of 2 games.
Question: Will Nintendo eshop gift cards work with the Wii U as well? I might be purchasing a wii U from someone I know for cheap and was thinking about doing the exact same thing.
This is the way. Own not rent
B
You showed them. By giving them more money...
@@joshalan5125 Yes, they were created during the Wii U era. Debit and credit cards still work too, but next year that payment option is gone, soon it'll only be eShop cards that are viable payment options.

Glad to see you back in the videos!
Feedback for the new setup... The video seems like it was dropping frames? The colored lighting is very cool. Your face seems like it needs another light source to get rid of the shadows on you. Maybe put some subtle lights in the far end of the room to light the stuff on the wall? Very cool setup though! Grats on the 400k!
Yea video seems to go to a weird framerate
I’m pretty sure the lighting is the way it is is because he’s not done setting up yet. He just wanted to go face to face cause he’s talking about the switch, and that’s his modus operandi.
BTW just saw the N64 controllers are back in stock. Just got myself one. Hurry over!!!
Dang I missed it!
They should strike a deal bring over Dreamcast games 😊
Now that is what i would be more than happy to throw 50$ at. Jet set radio on the go ?! 😩😩
If you are unhappy with the price DO NOT purchase this. That is the only Nintendo will take notice. Vote with your wallet
Nintendo does not react to customer feedback.
@@mcgman8058 Correct but if no one bought this they would have to react or take a huge loss to their bottom line and stock price. Something they can’t afford if they can help it. Unfortunately everyone bought it so…. Mute point I suppose.
I decided to combine my family plan with my brothers and it’s only costing us $5 more per year. Well worth it!
I'm glad you brought up the issue with the button layout. I was so excited to start playing this last night it never occurred to me to think about how it would work with the joycons. It will definitely take some getting used to. The N64 was really my intro to gaming so I have the most memorable times with that console. I will admit I was surprised with the price increase. I still paid it but I do hope to see an expanded library with impressive titles to help justify the cost.
Yeah the button layout is frustrating. I went online to see if I could get a n64 style switch controller. What a rabbit hole that was. The official Nintendo one was a limited release, and has ridiculously expensive re-sell price. As far as third party goes, virtually non-existent. Why would Nintendo release a N64 emulator on the switch and limit the sell of the controllers? It’s crap like this that makes me rather just play with my PS5.
I'm surprised no CZcamsrs are talking about it, but one of the new Nintendo rewards is for a print off dog or cat hat! Funniest thing I have seen in a while
I'm lucky to have a party of people under a family plan who were all interested and willing to throw money towards the expansion pak otherwise I would have waited at least for more N64 games. Right now its pretty bare bones..
And the emulation isn’t that good for N64.
as someone who games occasionally and never particularly identified as a gamer, i haven’t picked up my switch or watched Shawn in about 5 months!
Sooooo, super stoked to find out about 64 and Genesis virtual consoles, however the thing that struck me most is how much weight our boy has lost! Good on you bro, and congrats on the new digs!
Between the input lag, poor button mapping, emulation issues, and small lineup of games I really find this hard to recommend, especially for the $50 price tag
You’re making stuff up

Sin & Punishemnt was the only N64 game I bought on Wii U's Virtual Console, but nice that I can play it again without having to hook up my Wii U.
No customizable layouts? I was already leaning towards not getting the expansion pack, but now I'm 100% sure I'll be saving my money.
I love how all the popular videogame CZcamsrs were outraged at Nintendo’s greed over the price hike…but they all still bought it anyway. It’s your money, do what you want with it, but just know you’re also telling them what they did is fine & dandy. Which is not okay.

Content creators tend to buy, even if they don't like or agree, because they need to cover to... create content. It's the "they pay so we don't"
It's kinda their job to cover this service though. Sure, they don't have to do it, but they'd lose a lot of potential views if they didn't.
Beautiful background man! Great upgrade
Been playing Ocarina of Time for a couple of hours now, and I love the emulation. It's quite good and compared directly to the original hardware hooked up with an HDMI adapter on the same TV, the difference is like night and day. I would've spent $60 to play Ocarina of Time on my Switch anyway, so I don't feel ripped off. Yet I understand that I'm alone in this opinion.
Do you know if you can pay monthly or do you have to pay $50 up front?
You aren’t alone 🤘🏻
@@DMB00085 I’m pretty sure you can pay monthly but it does cost a little more in the long run.
Not alone!
You're definitely not alone. The complainers are always going to be louder, that's just how the internet works. I had a blast playing through Starfox, Yoshi Story, Mario Kart, and Mario Tennis and I'm looking forward to diving back in asap. $50 per year is practically nothing imo, especially as the other games start getting added in.
Started ocarina of time last night!!! Ahh so amazing played a good 5 hours!
Just download a ROM and play the game the way it actually looked and performed. You're experiencing the game the objectively worst way. The emulation on Switch is trash and Ocarina's graphics are messed up to the point that iconic areas are ruined because they graphics don't display properly.
@@tonygalati2672 I agree it definitely doesn't look as good as it did in 96,but it's a game a grew up playing and will always be legendary
For my time playing the Nintendo 64 service on the Switch, I can say that I like it a lot.
As a 29-year-old today, I grew up playing this console. While I picked up a couple of beloved games again on the Wii U Virtual Console, this service is largely the first time that I will relive these games.
I don't really play games online, so I have no strong opinions on the input lag.
The button mapping doesn't bother me all that much. Granted, I only played through Mario Tennis so far. It might become a bigger problem when I get into games like Super Mario 64 or Mario Kart. The option to change the buttons as you see fit would be lovely.
If there's one thing that I'm a bit iffy about, it's the way that cutscenes are handled. In Mario Tennis, the opening movie had some odd audio issues. Perhaps it's due to way the emulation is done.
Good video.
I feel like the expansion pack price includes the cost of the animal crossing price, which i dont have.
Im pretty sure they always planned for it to be expensive, they probably just threw in the dlc last minute to try and justify the price
For the price we shouldn't be settling for "just a bit of lag" for any of these games that are 20 years old.
Sweet setup bro! Loving the slick lighting 👌
I wonder how long it's going to take for those P1, P2... icons to burn into the OLED screen.
glad to see jumpcut85 is back because it amuses me XD also your frames are lagging a bit there man otherwise nice setup
Congratulations on the new Crib, will wait for MTV Cribs edition on your future videos
I realized that a lot of people don't realize that you can customize your button mapping at anytime and save your customized buttons as presets in the Switch Main Menu. It's in the settings under controllers and sensors. Hope this helps some😁
Congrats again on the place. Setup looks great! Keep it up. Loved the thoughts on the controller mapping, that would be sweet.
What 3rd party controller would you recommend? My daughter wants to play Ocarina of time. We have a pro controller. Is that good enough?
I bought a controller from retro fighters. They sell a couple n64 controller variants that are all shaped like a more standard controller. Some are designed for the original console some are usb for pc or switch. Check them out if you never heard of them.
@@Beefusan good thought. I have the Dreamcast controller from them. I like it. Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll check it out!
Love you RGT so happy for you man you deserve it

I picked up the Nintendo expansion pack last night and I started playing back through LoZ: OoT. I think that I’ll get my money’s worth out of the service, but I’m not happy with the price point. If I get 50+ hours of gameplay from the service each year, then I think it is worth the money. I think that I will get that with OoT, Mario Kart, and Mario Tennis right now. When Majora’s Mask and Banjo Kazooie come out, then I definitely think it will be much more worth the price point.
Though you can't modify they buttons, you "can" re map them in the actual switch options. They added that about a year ago I think (not completely sure when).
Its not exactly the same but you can achieve pretty much the same results. I used it for the nes and snes already because I felt the defaults they used for those games were a little off at first. Hope that helps
Can you change the inverted camera controls?
The WiiU lets you remap buttons, so for now i am sticking with that instead of n64 on switch
@@idkwhattohaveasausername5828 that I dont think so
When I mapped my controller it glitched out my game. Mario 64 mario was stuck in a crouch position and starfox64 couldnt use turbo or brake.

10:12 you're welcome RGT, the reason i watched the Video is because i watch all your videos and support you in any way that i can.
This is why I’m holding off on upgrading to the plus. I’m fine with my 3 month service
The n64 OEM controller w/ Hyperkin adapter doesn’t work with the n64 online. The Z button is mapped to something else, so I can’t play most games 🙁
I played most of the N64 + Genesis games last night, albeit briefly... I mostly focused on Zelda OOT... and my biggest issue with it is the inconsistent performance and weird button mapping for my pro controller ( I don't have the n64 controller). Game runs in a higher resolution, whether that is 720p or higher not sure, frame rate is kind of all over the place but it is certainly less than 60fps. I have a very fast internet connection so I didn't notice bad lag... just frame rate issues separate from lag.
I noticed that frame-rate issue too.... I didn't expect that from the Switch! Needs a bit more work and a patch to get it right hopefully......
Ocarina of Time originally ran at 20 frames per second, and inconsistently at that. Nintendo is probably of the opinion that that altering the performance would take away some authenticity from the experience of playing these games. The framerate isn't an issue with the Switch, it was a limitation of OoT and many other N64 games. Some titles, like F-Zero X, did run at 60FPS, but they usually had much smaller worlds and intentionally worse graphics to achieve a more solid framerate.
The button mapping, on the other hand, is a legitimate complaint. Of course, most of the buttons, and also both sticks, can be remapped on the Switch as a whole (System Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Change Button Mapping). The up and right C buttons, however, are only mapped to the right stick, and you can't assign stick directions to buttons at all. Personally, although I will be paying for the Expansion Pack, $50 for an N64 controller that doesn't work well with most other Switch games is not worth it just to get a better control scheme.
It’s dumb that you can’t buy these games on the Nintendo e shop and instead have to pay for a subscription. That’s not a good way to keep nostalgia
I'll hold out for a year and see what additional games and upgrades they may have just not impressed yet

nice coverage on the NSO+EP
I'm in a wait-and-see mode, I give it a few months to see if it's worth it.
Honestly, not a bad idea. The N64 is a bit bare bones at the moment. I'm lucky to have a party of people under a family plan who were all interested and willing to put money towards this service otherwise I would have skipped and waited for more.
Nintendo’s website has more N64 controllers right now. I literally purchased mine while watching this video right now
Not on my end. I'm on Nintendo's website and it still says it's out of stock.
I really wish I could play w/ randos on this service... like, the majority of my time playing Nintendo's biggest multiplayer games (e.g. Smash, Mario Kart, etc.) is w/ random fools online
I'm in Poland, and paid because I was offered a big discount. I'm terminating my automatic renewal for sure if I cannot play w/ randos by next October. The automatic renewal would, of course, be at regular price. If there is nothing major offered that isn't possible with an emulator, it is an even bigger rip-off. Most people here in Poland can't afford a Switch, and my Canadian friends back home don't necessarily have the same games or schedule that I do. The flexibility of playing with randos is a huge bonus for me.
@@nataliejarosz9360 "The flexibility of playing with randos is a huge bonus for me."
100%... And I can't imagine this would be, like, *that* difficult of a feature to implement: the bulk of the service's structure is (sadly lol) already done!
It's just so bizarre that Nintendo would take the time to create an online service for all these games, but then have this weird barrier to entry for how most of us usually engage w/ online multiplayer o_0
N64 controllers are in stock right now for anyone who couldn't get one yet
Woah, if there's no button mapping, I'm definitely holding out till i can get an n64 controller with proper button layout.
Good luck, scalpers are buying them all up
That is what people are angry about. Nintendo is making people jump through ridiculous hoops just to get something so basic to be enjoyed. And you still have to be connected to the internet to enjoy the games even if you don't play with friends.
The button mapping is in the console itself, and you can save it. That's why it's not on the app
Welp, just bout the N64 controller. I’m pretty pumped lol 😂
hopefully you start recording in 60fps again jittery RGT doesn't sit with me XD

They charged me $30 to upgrade to the expansion last night and it’s only good until October 2022. I paid $100 for a $79 service. Nintendo agents wouldn’t refund me the difference. Its absolute garbage, I was excited to get it today, but not anymore, mostly because they seriously messed up the button placement on the Switch controller yet AGAIN after they already did that with the NES games. Theres no way I'm gonna play N64 games where all B and A button actions are mapped on the actual B and A buttons on the Switch contoller instead of Y and B, I think we are passed that. Even the Wii U allowed you to remap the controls without having you to change it on a system level every time you play classic games. Ohh Nintendo... 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Exactly, couldn't have said it better!
The only annoying thing with this emulation for OoT is the fog rendering. Input lag is hardly noticeable. I'm more worried about what's going to happen to my save files 10 or 15 years down the line when the service shuts down, how will we play the games again if we can't connect to a server to verify ownership?
Obviously by that time there will be a mod to bypass this verification, but not officially
I haven’t ran into any problems with the new online. Worth it in my mind but I am fairly easy to please. Already at death mountain in ocarina enjoying the ride! Can’t rewind N64 but that’s not a big deal.
The N64 controlers are up right now BTW.
Also the GameCube remote works fine for n64
