      Nintendo dropped the ball by not purchasing Rare when they had the chance, I could only imagine the bangers they would be putting out today...

    So basically, every Rare game on the N64 is like that episode of Black Books where they try to write a children’s book.
    “How about instead of the caveman, there’s an elephant? And instead of the real-time strategy and the time-travel, they’re all racing because he’s

    Even though we got Banjo and Kazooie, I feel like Dream was such a tragic loss. It looked to have quite the potential in both forms that were shown off in Rare Replay (the footage shown in the video) It should be noted that some things from it found their way into other games. Captain Blackeye who can be found in Banjo Tooie was to be the main antagonist of Dream and even hints to the fact of this game when you talk to him saying things like "Once, I had a dream" and "A bear and bird took my glory, kind of looked like you" Also the main theme (heard in this video) got reworked into a Donkey Kong track and later into a track used in Viva Piñata called Oven-Fresh Days. The song High Tides, Swift Sails found in Rare Replay would eventually be reworked for Gloomy Galleon in DK64

    I often hear the Klobb was named in 'honour' of Ken Lobb, but I'm not sure how accurate this is. At the time it was thought that naming the absolutely worst gun in the game after him was meant as an insult, after Nintendo of America had forced Rare to censor the more violent aspects of the game/blood and the use of actual gun names. I certainly remember reading this in N64 Magazine.
    (Seriously, the Klobb is a pea shooter with horrendous accuracy/RoF, and a miserable magazine size. You don't accidentally make something THAT awful).

    is there any other company like Rare where there devs were kind of a jack of all trades? they didnt have many people, but they put out so many different genres of games and they were all well made and very polished for many years. meanwhile as far as i know, any other company has dedicated teams to make one kind of game.

    I feel like the N64 Disk Drive was a huge missed oportunity for the system, it would've brought some needed extra space for plenty of games that needed it and the fact that it was made with magnetic disks in mind would've meant cheaper games for the developers to produce and probably cheaper for consumers to buy. But alas, hindsight is 20-20, but I still like to think of what it could've been possible if they didn't cancel the N64DD in the west.

    One thing you sort of got wrong (At least semantically) about Diddy-kong Racing. - You mentioned Banjo being a Cameo in the game but technically that's not correct as Diddy Kong racing released BEFORE Banjo Kazooie. This makes Banjos appearance in DKR a debut, not really a Cameo.

    • @TheCartoonGamer8000
      @TheCartoonGamer8000 Pƙed 2 lety

      Banjo was supposed to come out before Diddy Kong Racing, but was delayed to Summer ‘98. DKR took its place for the Holiday ‘97 title, so it technically was a cameo. The instruction manual for DKR even mentions Kazooie, well before she made her game debut.

    I'm interested in the time traveling caveman somehow becoming the tactician in a command and conquer style RTS. I mean, he would have had to go into a future where none of the people with ray guns, know about survival tactics such as covering yourself in mud so that they can't be detected by the evil robot's themo-vision or something. or an alien with shield tech that can only be bested by slow moving projectiles, like arrows, javelins, spear thrusting....
    oh and you could probably have the caveman learn a thing or two, and incorporate it/them into his tactics? imagine a caveman with a rocket launcher firing towards a rock face which collapses onto enemy targets.
