Just received my first order from flite test, it included this awesome triplane; I am super excited to join the hobby and eventually even fly the dr1.
I am very happy to report that I am overly impressed with the quality of the products and especially the quality of the way the flite test crew packages their shipments. Nothing was damaged in freight and it was neatly and safely packaged.
Hey. Did it come with everything you need? Thanks...
Is it possible to mount a camera on it or does one come included
The new brown foam with the white middle looks so edible! Like an ice cream bar😆 haha great build as always!
Just bought this as my first RC plane, with the kit, controller, lipo, etc, it was no more than 250$. Not bad for getting into the hobby. Thank you to FliteTest for making this an affordable hobby to get in to. Order will be here within a week. Super excited.
how did it go
I built the SE5a a year ago. It flew well until the wings came off and I re-glued them a bit askew. Now it dutch rolls something crazy. Going to build this for indoor flight, to explore the low speed envelope. Hoping it will fly like the Pietenpol that I love so very much.
lets just dance in some happy little dihedral... this is your plane, you can do whatever you want
Excellent construction design and assembly techniques! I can't wait to build some of your kits! You have obviously put a lot of thought, effort and passion into making these user friendly. Thanks!
Your build videos are extremely well done! Thanks!
Thank you, these little planes have kept me busy, what can I say retirement is boring . At this point I have built several and have flown none of them seems it rains on those days I could fly. I have given a few away and I'm sending two Pietenpols to a Son in Guam ... He is a law enforcement Officer , so I made him a black and white with flashing lights ... the triplane was fun and has good balance and glides well hope to fly it soon. Next it is time to change one of the explorers into vtol ...kk board programmed but have to finish pods . Thanks again ...hummm...seems Tesla patented a vtol in 1927 ... now there is a design worth of ...
Sounds like me... I've built 9 FT Aircraft, only flown ONE. For 6 seconds. Into the GROUND!! 😡😖
Relaxing builds though.
@@CarminesRCTipsandTricks My first two FT builds: Duster and Storch gave me wild rides right into the ground. The Pietenpol and SE5 restored my faith in my piloting and now I can fly everything!
@@1212354a I've heard good things about the Pete.... The one I Noseplanted was the Simple Cub!! 😖 Wings too short, too heavy.
I do think that individual taste and ability play a role...
Some think tha Cub is the best ever, some people can't fly a SE-5 for beans! 😳
I love the Storch, now that I've flown it. Some think it's junk....
L lol l lol look l look
Wow I realy enjoy this top professionalism you preformed here, you're simply grate, I mean not only in the build but mostly in your instructions their Grate Grate GRATE 👍👌👌 It's about the details - it's ALWAYS about the DETAILS!
just excellent thankyou!
From an old WOOD and WOOD GLUE guy ... THAT RUDDER STUFF IS BRILLIANT!
1:34.28 You actually can get semi-sustained inverted (5ish sec) off of it (at least with an f-type power pack and 6x4 apc prop). You just have to be really good at making subtle adjustments with the rudder while holding just enough forward pressure on the stick to maintain a level/slight downward slope (any more and mine snaps out).
I want to see a sub $200 contest between quad copter and regular single rotor helicopter. Do tasks like precision and lifting and racing. maybe throw in some FPV if you can in the budget.
Just started r/c flyin again, after 40 years, excellent info, Soon to crash and burn, when weather's good.
ALWAYS TURN THE TRANSMITTER ON FIRST! Then the Aircraft! This prevents prop disasters and the like!
Build video was great, with the exception of the installation of the landing gear. My first problem was that the wire used for the gear instantly conducted all the heat away from the glue when pushing into the "V" shaped cut. This made the glue instantly harden and I was unable to put the wire where it belonged. I had to cut it open (twice) and put the wire in and then put glue on top. The second issue was there was no instruction on the angle the wire should be spread out. I didn't pay attention to this until I had to put the "wing" in place that goes between the wheels. I then had to try and spread out the wires which was problematic as they had to be spread out quite a bit. I had to reglue the foam struts as I broke them loose and I was worried I was going to rip the wire out of the bottom of the plane. Would have been much easier and less stressful to address this earlier.
This is going to be my very first RC airplane.
It's your money, but I'd reconsider...
It's NOT an easy first Plane by any stretch!! 😲
Want something German and also pretty cool - FT Scout or FT Storch. THOSE will get you comfortable with FT RC Aircraft, so you won't get discouraged.
Josh Bixler is an OUTSTANDING Pilot! An Expert! It's not as easy as it looks here.
you guys rock
Love from Bangladesh
High you guys, I love your, imagination, so maybe a flying merry go round. Thanks.
Dinky Little would love that!
I would like to see y'all do a review on the umx p3 or the carbon z p2
Good job worth watching Aloha from Hawai
very cool one ! , I thought about being creative and build up a A29 SUPER TUCANO FUSELAGE with the F4U CORSAIR WINGS , just an idea for you guys !
A small lightweight Balsa plane would be super fragile. The first crash would do it in and the first crash, even if repaired would knock the wings out of alignment and the plane would never fly right again. This is SO much easier than building a Balsa kit as all of the issues with wing angles of attack and other alignment adjustments are made for you. Its tough as nails.
There are aparently some minor errors in the plans. NO side holes for reference to fix the power pod and no hole reference in the rear bulkhead for the pushrods. They were not drawn, apparently
#FliteTest - HOW ABOUT a Curtiss JN-4??? Not as glamorous, but still a widely used WWI Biplane.
I know JBix.... It's NOT a close coupled Aircraft! Not even close.
But still a bonafide Classic and a favorite 1920's Barnstormer!!
Worth considering??
Carmine ✈🚂🚙
I really want one of these kits!! What's your recommendation on painting it? Type of paint?
I just want to know what the metal for the airplane
What an icon of flight! Have you built it with ailerons? The roll rate could be spectacular. lol
I'm thinking about sizing these plans up to a 36" wingspan. Has anyone done this? If so what power system did you use?
I am looking to buy one of these rc planes. When i select all the parts on your website under Fokker DR1 is that everything i need?
The design and the build video are brilliant. I’m curious how many hours it takes to perfect a design like this?
my first build was 6 hours. (FT Duster). My Simple Storch was 4 hours. I built the Pietenpol in less than 2 hours. For an experienced builder, drying times added to the video is all that it takes 60-90 minutes.
do you think it would be possible to make this into a 4 channel with some 5 gram servos and scoring the ailerons like the real fokker dr1
I have had this build for some time now, but mainly as a stationary model. I haven't had much success with actually getting it airborne. I thought it may have been due to some weird P-Factor issues or maybe something was warped, but I can never get it to fly. I've rebuilt this model 5 times now and I feel stuck.
Will the FT Power Pack A Radial work for this model and will the Tattu 800mAh 7.4V 45C 2S1P Lipo Battery Pack With XT30 Plug also go with the power pack?
Hola, el foamboard que usted usa es de 5mm. ...???? saludos
I know this is a late comment😂 but how do I get the simulator by Richard Kennedy?
Good question. I'd like also to see some of these planes painted and detailed.
What size wire for landing gear?
Hi, this has got me started on my very first RC plane build so I can start in the sport! Where can I find plans for the control horns and firewall for the DR1 and SE5? They don't seem to be included in the downloadable plans - I am in the UK or I would have ordered the kit, but having to scratch build to keep the costs down :(
Unfortunately, it's very difficult to find the exact plans for the FT control horns- Most people make their own out of various materials, or purchase plastic or wooden ones from Flite Test directly, or from hobby shops and other online vendors. Many people suggest old credit cards, as the stiff plastic can be easily substituted for this purpose.
If you are a first-time builder/flier, I wouldn't suggest a mini bi/tri-plane as your first airplane- check out the FT Storch or other designated beginner/trainer airplanes. If you get into it, you'll advance to this point in no time. Good luck!
(Also, the Flite Test Forums are a great place for help, challenges, and conversation. ;)
Im from Polan (Europe) Can i do order ?
Amazing! However, as a scratch builder I can't replicate your high quality for one simple reason. The hot glue gun. We have two glue guns, the first was battery powered, and leaked and was very unreliable in terms of the amount of glue that came out. The second was big and had to be connected to a power socket, but no glue comes out when the trigger is squeezed. Is there any possible cause for the problem, and if so what, and if not do you have any hot glue guns that you would personally recommend. Typically from Australia, as I live in Australia.
how much is shipment for Philippines?
Hi josh , as I was enjoying your build video a thought acurred to me , why don,t you design a ft camel , the Sopwith camel is a beautiful plane , from Tony McCarthy from bedfordshire , England ,
When is Flite test going to make it to buy mix match kits like a wing from mini bi plane wings but a tiny tutor fuselage
Can you show how painting all models in your build video ?
Thanks
They have dedicated videos for painting on their channel, or the Articles on the Flite test website. ;)
Question. Does this plane not have ailerons?
Am I right in thinking that there is no ON-OFF switch to the receiver etc, as there was when I last built a model aeroplane. I know times change, and I must be far behind the times in this hobby, but is there something I've missed.
The receiver is powered by the flight battery. As long as you still have juice in the battery, you can control the plane. Once, a battery fell out of my simple scout, and it free-fell down to earth a bit out of balance due to the lack of nose weight. Now the battery has a hook and loop fastener.
Hey Flite Test Team :)
I bought a mighty mini Arrow here in Germany but am lacking a good GlueGun and your special Hot Glue. A decent glue gun won't be too hard to find I guess, but can you give an advice which attributes a usable glue should have? I just don't want to buy a 0815 glue from the homestore...
They like to use glue guns with a large-stick capacity, and a high temperature. I, along with Josh, use the AdTech Pro 200. This glue gun is exceptional in how much glue it can hold, and the temperature is just right for big and small applications. For glue sticks, whatever is compatible with your glue gun, but they say to stay away from foggy/milky sticks. Clearer, bluer ones are supposedly better.
In order to sum all of this up, Flite test sells the AdTech Pro 200 and compatible glue in their store, and the glue is custom to their liking, giving you the perfect hot-glue experience.
You go to the app Joe
Plz do d day planes boats and things and act out d day!
You know you're early when the video is 3 years old.
Great build as always but I don't see any mention of bending the wire to fit into the elevator control horn - it just appears! or is it already bent in your kit maybe?
I Love what you do,
Mark Palmer
Not sure if the wire comes with a z bend on one end but if not you can use the same technique as demonstrated for the servo. They are both straight Z bends
I watched a different build video and the z bend is pre bent on one end.
Check out the mini-mustang build. Josh hot glues a bbq skewer into the elevator. I have been using popsicle sticks, but they impact the movement of the elevator. I will be using the skewer technique on all of my builds.
Hi Flite Test. I need to do a project where I make an airplane capable of transporting 10 real raw eggs in an airplane. I loved the SE5 WWI Biplane model and the DR1 Triplane model, but I feel like they're a bit small to carry that load.
My question is if you think that it is a good idea to use the design of any of these models but using the engine and batteries used for the Simple Storch model, in order to have more drag produced by the plane. Would it affect anything if I make this change?
By the way, his work is admirable. A sample of engineering talent
The FT Bushwacker is ideal for carrying weight, so is the Guinea Pig.
I have a suggestion. or a question. Can you preprint colour on the boards so that when you have finished the building process the planes are already colured with camo and markings?
I pre-paint the wings, but leave the gluing surfaces bare. I learned the hard way when the wings fell off my SE5. Hot Glue likes un-painted foam!
Mine flies way too light for me. If i put more nose weight in it likes to tip forward on landing easily but If I push the battery back at all it is nearly unflyable. Also the landing gear needs a lot of bracing to withstand any less than gentle landings. Anyone have any tips for getting this thing to fly a little heavier? It blows away in 3-5mph wind.
4S 850 battery. With a 4S, I've countered 15 mph.
My brother and I are considering getting some planes. This will be one of them. Do you do custom planes as well?
The store releases speed build kits only for the released models. Feel free to modify the plans and make it your own!
Which is the size of the push rods (piano wire)? I used 1mm wire and it flexes.
If use at least 1.5mm...
Just curious does a 'real' F.Dr 1 have dihedral in its wings (I don't think so) and if no, why not? would it have made the plane easier to fly like on many flying models of it that I have seen. Most WW1 planes don't have dihedral to their wings at least that i have seen. never mind you explain it at about 51-52 min in.
a 3-channel plane needs dihedral to stay balanced. If you put micro-servos on the wing, you can build it without dihedral.
We're is the p40 war hawk fighting tigers model this would make a complete set
it's out now (2019)
It looks like you have to have a really good glue gun which shuts off when you want!!
How About a video on correcting a plane with bag flight problems. I have built two of your planes one as a kit and one from plans and both of them didn't fly. You built your planes and take them out and they fly great. You need to have someone else built a plane that will not fly and show what we have to to get it to fly.
Ron Garland
Can I order from India.
Make an rc helium airship kit
flite test You send products to Brazil
I am not understanding how the plane banks with only rudder and elevator. How do you bank without ailerons?
@Lightworker VonHelton Yeah. What I mean is, how does the plane bank at all without ailerons. plugging an elevator into an aileron still only pitches the plane. I don't understand what causes the plane to twist and bank on the roll axis.
@Lightworker VonHelton I see that it works. I just have a hard to e wrapping my head around how.
this is not really related, but, I challenge you guys to beat the Flite Test all time record of 116mph, and I also challenge you to make more food fly!
40 degree ankle.
Notification squad where u at
Dim Van leeuwen NOTIFICATION SQUAD FTW
Can it do a barrel roll?
With lots of rudder and a bit of elevator, it can "roll.' It's not an axial roll because it lacks ailerons.
Can you recommend a budget servo for this plane
I mean Reciever not servo
It's all dependent on your radio- its brand can usually be proprietary and requires a certain receiver line. If you use a Graupner radio, you'll need a compatible receiver, same for Spektrum and Futaba. I'm Spektrum-oriented, so I know the OrangeRX recievers are a cheaper alternative to name-brand products, but I don't know how good their reliability is.
NexGenInnovation thanks
Aaron Madriaga No problem ;)
@@bpw823 I have many Spektrum receivers; great range and reliability. I have one Orange receiver. It quit after 500 feet and I lost the model.
25th like!
is it possible to have products delivered to the U.K?
Richard Hobson try Graupner Germany, or a german based company selling there products. FT has a new cooperation with Graupner Germany. I think the shipping costs are much less
for sevo`s and motors and al other stuf look at nl.aliexpress.com
i order my stuf alway``s there
Can I know what the foam board is ??
권경일 Waterproof foam board by Flite test you can also build it with regular foam board
iStrike Pro Oh!!! thank you so much!!
Looks more like a sopwith triplanes than a Fokker dr.1
πρώτος
and I also challenge you guys to get 1.5 hours of flight out of any plane or multirotor
mm depron ?
No problem using depron, the only piece youll have some problem is the last one (the one you must bent to make a full circle).
As depron dont bend (dont even try to heat it), it will break. The solution: tape one side, make 1 cm cuts in the oposite side that you taped, and besd (the cuts) very gently. make the full circle, test fit it. Finally aply hot glue in the cuts that are semi opnened.

why has this been released again???
chewit mcdonald yeah wtf i was thinking the same...
This video was a RE-upload because we had a few things wrong with menus and audio syncs... etc
Sorry for the confusion! thanks for watching!

FliteTest so is there any future plans for a larger fokker dr1

One of the 1k likes on this video is me.
But it's totally spoilt by that rediculous dihedral (my opinion), which just isn't necessary.
That kits is expensive with all the stuff you need to fly it
Etunimi Sukunimi you can buy just the airframe from flite test then order your electronics from www.hobbyking.com. they are very inexpensive on everything rc, I've been buying from them for years and have never been disappointed.
0kd
the thing i dont like from theses kits is that your cuts need to be perfect
There's not really any other option. Any proper kit requires cutting.
Maybe I'm the 135th comment on this video is me.
uuuuuggggghhhh
I am a bit hearing impaired. Captions would be very helpful.
why has this been released again Flite Test

+FliteTest thanks, no problem!
where is the flying simulator download
FliteTest I am interested on building this plane, is the shipment free? if not, how much is the shipment for Philippines? and does this kit come with a reciever for the remote control? or no? I'm so new to this😂😂😂
FliteTest can I use FlySky FS-i6 transmitter and FlySky FS-iA6 receiver?
Another broken link. Why folks? Why all the broken links to your store, and why can’t we buy speed build kits for things just a few years old? Please fix this or just take down the videos.
you can always scratch build its not that hard especially for a plane like this, Im sure you could do it!
All these collages on the wings do not contribute to a good finish and are dirty. That's the big problem with your kits that are not clean
Dihedral on a Dr1............SAD
This is NOT your common power POD!
In future videos please change or modify the POD or video.
Also I am 45 years old and i have never wrapped a gift in my life. Females have always done this for me.
If you as a male in your life have wrapped a gift before more power to you girl ! Girl Power!.
I, at this time want to laugh out loud and call you a girl again!
That said, thanks for your tutorial on gift wrapping!
oh btw I am just joking
The pod does not fit because this is a mighty mini, it will be interchangeable with other mighty minis, but not the bigger swappables
