    Just received my first order from flite test, it included this awesome triplane; I am super excited to join the hobby and eventually even fly the dr1.
    I am very happy to report that I am overly impressed with the quality of the products and especially the quality of the way the flite test crew packages their shipments. Nothing was damaged in freight and it was neatly and safely packaged.

    I built the SE5a a year ago. It flew well until the wings came off and I re-glued them a bit askew. Now it dutch rolls something crazy. Going to build this for indoor flight, to explore the low speed envelope. Hoping it will fly like the Pietenpol that I love so very much.

    Thank you, these little planes have kept me busy, what can I say retirement is boring . At this point I have built several and have flown none of them seems it rains on those days I could fly. I have given a few away and I'm sending two Pietenpols to a Son in Guam ... He is a law enforcement Officer , so I made him a black and white with flashing lights ... the triplane was fun and has good balance and glides well hope to fly it soon. Next it is time to change one of the explorers into vtol ...kk board programmed but have to finish pods . Thanks again ...hummm...seems Tesla patented a vtol in 1927 ... now there is a design worth of ...

    1:34.28 You actually can get semi-sustained inverted (5ish sec) off of it (at least with an f-type power pack and 6x4 apc prop). You just have to be really good at making subtle adjustments with the rudder while holding just enough forward pressure on the stick to maintain a level/slight downward slope (any more and mine snaps out).

    Build video was great, with the exception of the installation of the landing gear. My first problem was that the wire used for the gear instantly conducted all the heat away from the glue when pushing into the "V" shaped cut. This made the glue instantly harden and I was unable to put the wire where it belonged. I had to cut it open (twice) and put the wire in and then put glue on top. The second issue was there was no instruction on the angle the wire should be spread out. I didn't pay attention to this until I had to put the "wing" in place that goes between the wheels. I then had to try and spread out the wires which was problematic as they had to be spread out quite a bit. I had to reglue the foam struts as I broke them loose and I was worried I was going to rip the wire out of the bottom of the plane. Would have been much easier and less stressful to address this earlier.

    A small lightweight Balsa plane would be super fragile. The first crash would do it in and the first crash, even if repaired would knock the wings out of alignment and the plane would never fly right again. This is SO much easier than building a Balsa kit as all of the issues with wing angles of attack and other alignment adjustments are made for you. Its tough as nails.

    Hi, this has got me started on my very first RC plane build so I can start in the sport! Where can I find plans for the control horns and firewall for the DR1 and SE5? They don't seem to be included in the downloadable plans - I am in the UK or I would have ordered the kit, but having to scratch build to keep the costs down :(

    • @bpw823
      @bpw823 Před 7 lety

      Unfortunately, it's very difficult to find the exact plans for the FT control horns- Most people make their own out of various materials, or purchase plastic or wooden ones from Flite Test directly, or from hobby shops and other online vendors. Many people suggest old credit cards, as the stiff plastic can be easily substituted for this purpose.
      If you are a first-time builder/flier, I wouldn't suggest a mini bi/tri-plane as your first airplane- check out the FT Storch or other designated beginner/trainer airplanes. If you get into it, you'll advance to this point in no time. Good luck!
      (Also, the Flite Test Forums are a great place for help, challenges, and conversation. ;)

    Amazing! However, as a scratch builder I can't replicate your high quality for one simple reason. The hot glue gun. We have two glue guns, the first was battery powered, and leaked and was very unreliable in terms of the amount of glue that came out. The second was big and had to be connected to a power socket, but no glue comes out when the trigger is squeezed. Is there any possible cause for the problem, and if so what, and if not do you have any hot glue guns that you would personally recommend. Typically from Australia, as I live in Australia.

    Am I right in thinking that there is no ON-OFF switch to the receiver etc, as there was when I last built a model aeroplane. I know times change, and I must be far behind the times in this hobby, but is there something I've missed.

    • @1212354a
      @1212354a Před 4 lety

      The receiver is powered by the flight battery. As long as you still have juice in the battery, you can control the plane. Once, a battery fell out of my simple scout, and it free-fell down to earth a bit out of balance due to the lack of nose weight. Now the battery has a hook and loop fastener.

    Hey Flite Test Team :)
    I bought a mighty mini Arrow here in Germany but am lacking a good GlueGun and your special Hot Glue. A decent glue gun won't be too hard to find I guess, but can you give an advice which attributes a usable glue should have? I just don't want to buy a 0815 glue from the homestore...

    • @bpw823
      @bpw823 Před 7 lety

      They like to use glue guns with a large-stick capacity, and a high temperature. I, along with Josh, use the AdTech Pro 200. This glue gun is exceptional in how much glue it can hold, and the temperature is just right for big and small applications. For glue sticks, whatever is compatible with your glue gun, but they say to stay away from foggy/milky sticks. Clearer, bluer ones are supposedly better.
      In order to sum all of this up, Flite test sells the AdTech Pro 200 and compatible glue in their store, and the glue is custom to their liking, giving you the perfect hot-glue experience.

    Hi Flite Test. I need to do a project where I make an airplane capable of transporting 10 real raw eggs in an airplane. I loved the SE5 WWI Biplane model and the DR1 Triplane model, but I feel like they're a bit small to carry that load.
    My question is if you think that it is a good idea to use the design of any of these models but using the engine and batteries used for the Simple Storch model, in order to have more drag produced by the plane. Would it affect anything if I make this change?

      It's all dependent on your radio- its brand can usually be proprietary and requires a certain receiver line. If you use a Graupner radio, you'll need a compatible receiver, same for Spektrum and Futaba. I'm Spektrum-oriented, so I know the OrangeRX recievers are a cheaper alternative to name-brand products, but I don't know how good their reliability is.

      Richard Hobson try Graupner Germany, or a german based company selling there products. FT has a new cooperation with Graupner Germany. I think the shipping costs are much less

    mm depron ?

    • @cbuosi
      @cbuosi Před 4 lety +1

      No problem using depron, the only piece youll have some problem is the last one (the one you must bent to make a full circle).
      As depron dont bend (dont even try to heat it), it will break. The solution: tape one side, make 1 cm cuts in the oposite side that you taped, and besd (the cuts) very gently. make the full circle, test fit it. Finally aply hot glue in the cuts that are semi opnened.

      Etunimi Sukunimi you can buy just the airframe from flite test then order your electronics from www.hobbyking.com. they are very inexpensive on everything rc, I've been buying from them for years and have never been disappointed.

    Another broken link. Why folks? Why all the broken links to your store, and why can’t we buy speed build kits for things just a few years old? Please fix this or just take down the videos.

    All these collages on the wings do not contribute to a good finish and are dirty. That's the big problem with your kits that are not clean
