The debut feature from writer-director Saim Sadiq, JOYLAND explores the many sides of love and desire in a patriarchal society. Gentle and timid, Haider (Ali Junejo) lives with his wife Mumtaz (Rasti Farooq), his father, and his elder brother’s family in Lahore, Pakistan. Following a long spell of unemployment, Haider finally lands a job at a Bollywood-style burlesque, telling his family he is a theater manager, when in actuality, he is a backup dancer. The unusual position shakes up the steadfast traditional dynamics of his household and enables Haider to break out of his shell. As he acclimates to the new job, Haider becomes infatuated with the strong-willed trans woman Biba (Alina Khan) who runs the show-an unforeseen partnership that opens his eyes and ultimately his worldview, in ways both unexpected and intimate.

This was my first Pakistani film and it makes me so happy that Pakistan has such brilliant young filmmaker who are reshaping the film industry of Pakistan. You don't need a massive budget film to tell a good story. This film was made in a very humble budget of 10-15 cr but the amount of recognition and applause this film has gained for Pakistan is priceless. It also makes me a little sad that Pakistan had banned the release of this film but maybe some time a day will come when the authorities wouldn't feel attacked if someone challenges their belief or portrays a piece of reality which might not be the best part but it's still the truth and telling the truth is more important than pride.
One of the best storytelling movies ever. Not pushing, just telling about love, lost and patriarcy as it is.
I saw this film yesterday and loved it. Many interweaving stories about family, identity, love and betrayal. Do yourself a favor and see it!

I saw this movie and the suffering pain & emotion i saw in this movie is just amazing. I can't really explain there is no reason for banning it or censoring it. This movie depicts about our society which most of us not ready to accept it that is why most of the people are saying to ban it at once. But i think it is one of the master piece created and it is much better than those Pakistani movies that only show love romance and just these things that mostly 80% of Pakistani Drama industry shows. In my review i would like it to give an 10/10 & I also liked the title of the movie JOYLAND. It just sits perfect with the movie.

Dude look how f up Jinnah imprint the counter & the jamuriat. Made a country in Under Islamic law instead of making better they give ikhlaq mujra & satge drama. So women's freedom of work got limited to drama where that treat sh..t. it's a great movie that speaks about their huqumanart & maulana exploits their country and settles overseas & still hopes Pakistan gets better. Ok may have bad views about their government & established but I feel pity about the people who live in it.

I listened to the interview in the BBC it made me cry . we take so much for granted here In the States .such of a beautiful story Alina childhood was rough. But there is a reason whywe're here we all serve a purpose. Her purpose is be Brite like a real star. I live in LA and the Oscar's are this weekend .
