Very nicely done.
(I forwarded this to his daughter, she loved it)
There is a Proclamation in Alameda CA that makes Feb 21 2017 as David Needle day.
I still have a bag of those Boing Ball labels somewhere. I'm currently working on a project to move about 1K Amiga data floppies (all projects we ever did) to PC. It will fit on a half dime now :)
[will attempt to post link in reply to this message]
Thank you SO much for this information, Reichart.
I was actually in Alameda, CA, just last month celebrating a milestone birthday of mine with friends and had NO IDEA (or at least, had forgotten) I was in the stomping grounds of the great Dave Needle at the time. The main village drag, the Navy base, the beach with the kite surfers flying all over the horizon...
It only dawned on me with a jolt as I was making this video these last few days I'd likely walked in his paths, and viewed his beautiful daily views. The scene looking west towards the Bay Bridge to SF from half the island is astonishing, and might have given Dave echoes of his NY youth.
What a great place and a great man who loved his many communities.
Peace
Thank you for a great video. I was very lucky to have Dave as my first Boss out of school. He was a great, kind and amazing person overall. Having such a great boss in my lifetime was truly a blessing. Miss you Dave, especially your kindness and humor, not to mention what you have taught me!
Dave was a fan of the Amiga right to the end and if he could still see all the love that is being given to it still after his passing with new hardware like Terrible fire he wii be smiling from ear to ear, RIP
He really did exude a strong passion for his creations, and well-deserved. Everything he touched was brilliant. He had quite the infectious smile, too.
Side-story: I was in Alameda, California, in August of this year visiting friends and celebrating a milestone birthday of mine. Gorgeous part of the Bay Area right in the middle yet separated and peaceful. You can stand on the beach and look right across the Bay directly at SF. I even visited the Navy base where I think Dave may have worked as a young man. It's all been converted to breweries and odd companies, but still all original aircraft and boat hangars. I had no clue at the time (or had forgotten) Dave had moved to Alameda many years ago and called it his home. It was rather surreal during my research for this video that I realized I'd gone to restaurants and bars and driven down streets in his old stomping grounds.
@@AmigaLove thank you for sharing this!
Great video Eric. The production and historic value: really high standards. I would love to see a video on the Lynx. RJ Mical, Dave Morse and off course Dave Needle were the driving forces behind a very underestimated and untapped machine. Both Lynx and Amiga are still machines with potential for the initiated.
Both badges and all Commodore-Amiga models are the greatest. :)
ok..OK! I’ll admit I thought you were insane when you posted this on Twitter BUT after this awesome vid and Mr. Needle himself with SN 1 on his own Amiga 1000 the Boing Ball on your Amiga 1000 now makes sense 🤟❤️
Hahah!! I knew it would freak some people out but - when placed in context - it's a whole other story, right? Gives it a whole different meaning to me, and it really feels good. Thanks for the kind words, f1lupo.
@@AmigaLove sure does! ❤️
If you put on the special sunglasses, you'll see that Eric was working on an Apple all along!
Joking aside -- a beautiful presentation, Eric (and Graham). Thank you for sharing this piece of Amiga history with us!
Hah!! Thanks, Steve. I really appreciate it. And yeah, having Graham help out (happily, too) was really cool. He's retro at heart, and has a big heart at that.
Thought you were a bit late to the party with a tribute to the wonderful Dave, but it all made sense in the end. Great video as always.
It's true, it took me so long to find that monitor badge. And going forward with the project w/o it just felt wrong to me. Very thankful a friend sold it to me recently. And putting this tribute together was a total pleasure, if a bit melancholy at times. Thanks for the nice comments, Gareth.
A fitting tribute to one of my heroes.
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks, Richard. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was a labor of love. Having my son do the music made it even more special to me.
@@AmigaLoveIt was beautiful and very peaceful. That’s the one thing I love about your videos, the peace, I always end up feeling relaxed and calm after watching them. A rare trait.
@@a500 Oh man, you totally made my day. I'm kind of stunned. Really glad to hear they connect with you.
What a lovely tribute.
Thanks so much, BaudToTheBone. (Love your username, too, by the way. Now I've got a certain song stuck in my head, but I like your lyrics better!)
Wonderful! Thank you very much!
Now I really want one of them stickers :D nice tribute.
I can see why they went with the rainbow. The AMIGA moniker looks like A MIGA that font layout looks off somehow.
Awesome video Amiga Love. These badges with the boing ball look awesome....
Thank you so much, George. It's ALWAYS an honor to see you here. You rock, man!
Beautiful video. My guess is Dave mounted his A1000 on its side so that you could see all the original signatures (1:23).
That's a really good guess, yeah - especially when he was showing it an some sort of event. Makes total sense, and probably allowed him to point out signatures and tell stories. Great thinking - thanks!
Veeerrry nice.
Thanks so much, djryyz.
A perfect video for an incredible man and a wonderful project made in his memory! As usual, I AmigaLove your video! 😉 Thx Eric to take the time for us! And Thx Graham for the performance! ❤️
Dude, you are the best. The BEST! Thanks, man
@@AmigaLove I'm just a simple "watcher" (I don't know if I can use this word ^^).
You are, your son and you, the best ;) Really ! Thank you for your videos, always a pleasure for me to watch them.
Nice !
I got those square ones somewhere too...
Got it from Dave personally at Amiga 30 event.
From the sound of it Dave was practically Santa Claus with those things, pulling them out of a bag and giving them to "the kids." Very cool - thanks for sharing!
What a lovely tribute! I never knew these (especially the logo one!) were out in the wild. Say you don't want to sell that rainbow check monitor badge by any chance? I've got an euro 1084S-D which has the same case as a 1080, but instead of that lovevly Amiga badge it has a nasty Commodore one. So I've been looking for that monitor badge for quite some time. If you won't sell it maybe you can make a highres scan and put it on amigalove?
Cheers for making this and extra kudos to your son for the great piano playing!
Hi Christian! You know, I'm not sure I'm ready to sell the badge just yet as I only just removed it a couple of days ago. But let me think about it. Where are you located exactly? As for a high-res scan, that wouldn't be a problem but I think you'd actually want a 3D scan of some sort as it's raised up and not flat like a sticker. The badges are also made of metal, so there's that, too. But I could certainly take some excellent scans/pics of it and even some measurements.
Thanks for the kind words, and I'll be sure to show Graham your compliments as well. Cheers!
@@AmigaLove No worries at all! I just thought I'd ask right away as I've been looking for one for a bit of time. A highres scan or image with the (metric) measures would hopefully enable me to get one made from that polish guy who sells all sorts of Amiga badges on eBay. No real need for a 3d scan as from my understanding it's just the logo and logotype which are raised a little bit.
@@chrlw Maybe remind me of this request in a few days so I don't forget and I'll get on it. I need to go find my digital calipers!
That you playing Piano? Great video! More history recorded for all time
I wish! No, it's my 12 year-old son, Graham! He was kind enough to let me record him playing and to use it in the video. Makes it extra special for me. =)
@@AmigaLove nice.. he did a great job!
@@michaelwallen738 Thank you! I will show him your commets fo sure.
@@AmigaLove Wow Graham is super talented, it was the perfect accompaniment to this fine video
👏 🥲 👏
It seems like you could trim one of those badges down just a hair to fit on that 1010 drive. Isn't there a bit of a blank border around those boing ball badges?
Dude, if it doesn't fit it wasn't designed for it. What I learned during the course of this project is that there is one badge I do not have that was made - believe it or not - for the A1020: the 5.25" drive. I have a friend who has one but never knew what it was for. He assumed it was for an A2K keyboard badge, but that didn't make sense since these were made pre-checkmark. I think he thought they were made well after the fact as some sort of swag. Anyway, I'll leave my 1010 the way it is. I'm so pleased with the overall setup right now, it warms my heart just to look at it. ALWAYS good to see you around here, Big D. Love what you've been up to lately. Let's catch up soon, brother!
Never mind that, where d'ya get the "they live" bust
I'm a big fan of Waxworks Records. About a year ago they produced a set of what they called "Spinatures." These things actually are intended to sit on the center of your your record player and spin while the record is playing. If you search up "Waxworks Spinatures" you'll find it, and others. The They Live one was my favorite. I do use it on the record player from time to time, but I like the thing so much it sits on my desk so I can see it most of the time.
amiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
I don't really like the Boing Ball logo, but I still loved the video :)
Hah - yeah, I totally get it. I love the metallic silver shimmer but I totally get why Commodore went the direction they did. And, the checkmark is near and dear to my heart, of course. I have plenty of other machines that'll always stay as-is for sure.
Am i the only person who thinks that boing ball logo is hideous? RIP Dave.
I'm not a fan of it myself.
