  • In this episode of Tough Rules & Cool Interactions, I will be talking about a card that sees way too much inclusion in decks because the card seems like it has a great beneficial interaction with the Commanders but it actually has a negative interaction that can mess up the gameplan of your deck.

    EDHREC is great for players to find cards for their decks, but it can also be an ech chamber that feeds itself the same cards over and over, even when those cards are nonbo cards. Thanks for this one.

    • @ThisIsACommanderChannel
      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před měsícem +1

      Oh, for sure. I love that EDHREC exists for how it can help players, especially newer players that don't have all these older cards memorized like me, but it can lead to bad cards getting on the list initially and then they stick around because people just scroll the list and add things because they're on there... like the Manufacturer.

      @kyleedmunds5329 Před měsícem +1

      I don't expect for every player to spend a a bunch of hours scrolling through dozens of very specific Scryfall searches, that's crazy to think about for most players of course. In that, it is nice that EDHREC exists, but you're right that it creates an echo chamber of ideas and can stagnate the creative additions to a commander.

    One of the guys at my LGS has a Shelob deck and runs the Manufacturer, none of us knew this. He's gonna be crushed because the effect was so good.

      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před měsícem +1

      Aww, that sucks. At least he has a nice Manufacturer for trade now, or he can add it to a different deck that gets a lot more benefit from it.

    Commenting for the algorithm. I love this kind of content. I love the deep dives into a commander's intricacies and deck techs and the like. This is fantastic short form content that fills that itch

    One the same vein as this: you should make a video on the interaction between Esix, Fractal Bloom and Academy Manufactor! I had this "combo" in my Lonis deck and wondered why so few people used it on edhrec then got humbled by learning how it actually works.

    • @ThisIsACommanderChannel
      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před 24 dny +1

      Do you pick the order of replacement so that you make a token of some sort, like a Treasure, and then have the Manufactor replace that to make the 3 different tokens, and then have the Esix replace that so that you create 3 tokens of one of your creatures? If so, then yeah, that's pretty dang solid.

    • @luccooooo
      @luccooooo Před 24 dny

      @@ThisIsACommanderChannel Nope, that's the catch! I assumed that was how it worked as well, but you have to apply esix BEFORE everything else, and if you don't you lose your chance to ever apply it again for the rest of the turn. The result is thus either:
      - You apply esix, make a copy of a creature enter, but then manufactor doesnt see a clue and therefore doesnt make the two extra tokens;
      - or you dont apply esix, you get the three tokens as normal but lose the esix trigger.
      I had no idea replacement effects even had an order you could apply some of them in! It was genuinely heartbreaking to learn but imo it would be a fun topic for a video, it's a pretty unintuitive interaction and I think thats why esix is still in like 30% of lonis decks on edhrec, it's pretty mediocre without this after all.

    • @ThisIsACommanderChannel
      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před 24 dny +1

      @@luccooooo Awww poo! I couldn't trick you up, and very well done. I actually just did a video in June talking about the hierarchy of Replacement Effects, but it was covering specifically 616.1g and the whole Esix thing applies earlier in 616.1c. And yes, I'll for sure be making a video covering this, in fact the title of that video back in June includes that it is Part 1 in a mini-series of videos dedicated to this hierarchy of REs.

    Play Peregrin Took + Nuka Cola Vending Machine
    And draw your deck

    • @ThisIsACommanderChannel
      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před měsícem +1

      Oh yeah, that'll work. Makes you wonder why WotC didn't put a restriction on the Vending Machine. Like, they have clearly gotten the message that these tokens have become a little problematic, having them enter tapped on some of the recent effects and placing limitations on how often they can be made on other effects... but then they seem to forget all that and they go back to having them enter untapped and with no cap on them.

    Manufactor. Not manufacturer. I curse WOTC every day for not actually calling it manufacturer, since that's what I call it, you call it, and we all want to call it. But no. It's manufactor. Lol.
